  • Since 1985, the Ministry of Environment has supported environmental education in schools through Environment Conservation Model School initiative. Selected elementary, middle, high schools and kindergartens were designated as model schools for environment conservation programs every 2 years to develop model cases that can be adopted at other schools to promote more structured and effective environmental education. These supporting programs played a central role in developing an environmental education model for formal schools and enhance the importance of environmental education in school curriculum. This study aims to evaluate the current statues of environment conservation model schools and support to environment conservation model school initiatives which have created basic framework to enable the continued development of environmental education. For the study, documents and reports from 1985 to 2005 were analyzed, which included operation guidelines for model schools, case studies, implementation reports along with the systematic analysis of documentations. Also this study included interviews and a survey with people responsible for running programs, and consultation processes with experts to address the current status and issues related to Environment Conservation Model School initiative. Based on the present status and issues, the recommendations for improving Environment Conservation Model School initiative were provided.

  • A full-scale field experiment is an important part in the design of ships and offshore structures. Full-scale tests in the ice-covered sea, however, are usually very expensive and difficult tasks. Model tests in a refrigerated ice tank may substitute this difficulty of full-scale field tests. One of the major tasks to perform proper model tests in an ice towing tank is to select a realistic material for model ice which shows correct similitude with natural sea ice. This study focuses on the testing material properties and the selection of model ice material which will be used in an ice model basin. The first Korean ice model basin will be constructed at the Maritime & Ocean Engineering Research Institute (MOERI) in 2009. With an application to the MOERI ice model basin, in this study the material properties of EG/AD/S model ice of IOT (Institute for Ocean Technology) Canada, were tested. Through comprehensive bending tests, the elastic modulus and the flexural strength of EG/AD/S model ice were evaluated and the results were compared with published test results from Canada. Instead of using an ice model basin, a cold room facility was used for making a model ice specimen. Since the cold room adopts a different freezing procedure to make model ice, the strength of the model ice specimen differs from the published test results. The reason for this difference is discussed and the future development for a making model ice is recommended.

  • Korea Institute of Geology Mining and Materials(KIGAM) has been operating Korean Earthquake Monitoring System(KEMS) to archive the real-time data stream and to determine event parameters (epicenter origin time and magnitude)by the automatic processing and analyst review. To do this KEMS uses the Vindel Hue's velocity model which was derived from Wonju KSRS data. Because KIGAM now receives the real-time data from many stations including Wonju KSRS Cholwon seismo-acoustic array Uljin Wolsung Youngkwang Taejon Seoul Kimcheon Taegu etc. the proper velocity model should be established around the Korean peninsula, In this study P were velocity structures was derived from VELEST program using 69 events among the 835 events determined by KEMS in 1999 which were recorded by at least 5 stations. General trend of velocity structure was similar to Sang Jo Kim's model but velocity value was low in crust and high in upper mantle. Due to the sensitivity of inversion results to the initial input model the artificial short and blast data might be added.

• The purpose of this study was to make activated electronic business transaction of clothes. The subject used for this study was 19 - 24 aged 149 college women who most likely buying products through internet. By compare the 149 women's body shape with 3D model, 149 women could be judged their body shape objectively. We showed the average 3D model by the measurement of 19 - 24aged women's body shape. 19 - 24aged women are big customer of internet shopping mall. By understanding of the difference between real somatotype and perceptual somatotype, we can reduce the disadvantage such as returning clothes. Also, imaginary fitting model can be used for internet shopping mall, animation work, fashion show, and advertisement work. Therefore, we can expect the worth of this study to do.

  • In this paper, we designed a Artificial Life(AL) that acts the appropriate actions according to the user's action, environments and AL's feeling. To realize this AL, we used the Markov Model. We consisted of the chromosome by Markov Model and obtained the appropriate actions by Genetic Algorithm.

  • Time-mean and absolute geostrophic velocities of the Kuroshio current south of Japan are derived from TOPEX/Poseidon altimeter data using a Gaussian jet model. When compared with simultaneous measurements from a shipboard acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) at two intersection points, the altimetric and ADCP absolute velocities correlate well with the correlation of 0.55 to 0.74. The time-mean velocity is accurate to 1 cm s$^{-1}$ to 5 cm s$^{-1}$. The errors in the absolute and the mean velocities are similar to those reported previously far other currents. The comparable performance suggests the Gaussian jet model is a promising methodology for determining absolute geostrophic velocities, noting that in this region the Kuroshio does not meander sufficiently, which provides unfavorable environment for the performance of the Gaussian jet model.
