Introduction: Tobacco use is a leading cause of deaths and disabilities in India, killing about 1.2 lakh people in 2010. About 29% of adults use tobacco on a daily basis and an additional 5% use it occasionally. In Odisha, non-smoking forms are more prevalent than smoking forms. The habit has very high opportunity cost as it reduces the capacity to seek better nutrition, medical care and education. In line with the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) is a powerful Indian national law on tobacco control. The Government of Odisha has shown its commitment towards enforcement and compliance of COTPA provisions. In order to gauge the perceptions and practices related to tobacco control efforts and level of enforcement of COTPA in the State, this cross-sectional study was carried out in seven selected districts. Materials and methods: A semi-structured interview schedule was developed, translated into Odiya and field-tested for data collection. It mainly contained questions related to knowledge on provisions of section 4-7 of COTPA 2003, perception about smoking, chewing tobacco and practices with respect to compliance of selected provisions of the Act. 1414 samples were interviewed. Results: The highest percentage of respondents was from the government departments. 73% of the illiterates consumed tobacco as compared to 34% post graduates. 52.1% of the respondents were aware of Indian tobacco control laws, while 80.8% had knowledge about the provision of the law prohibiting smoking in public places. However, 36.6% of the respondents reported that they had 'very often' seen tobacco products being sold 'to a minor', while 31.2% had seen tobacco products being sold 'by a minor'. In addition, 24.8% had 'very often' seen tobacco products being sold within a radius of 100 yards of educational institutions.
It is given in the Lecture Note [1] of Berger, Gauduchon and Mazet that, if ${\pi}$n: (${\tilde{M}}$, ${\tilde{g}}$)${\rightarrow}$(${\tilde{M}}$, ${\tilde{g}}$) is a Riemannian submersion with totally geodesic fibers, ${\Delta}$ and ${\tilde{\Delta}}$ are Laplace operators on (${\tilde{M}}$, ${\tilde{g}}$) and (M, g) respectively and f is an eigenfunction of ${\Delta}$, then its lift $f^L$ is also an eigenfunction of ${\tilde{\Delta}}$ with the common eigenvalue. But such a simple relation does not hold for an eigenform of the Laplace-Beltrami operator ${\Delta}=d{\delta}+{\delta}d$. If ${\omega}$ is an eigenform of ${\Delta}$ and ${\omega}^L$ is the horizontal lift of ${\omega}$, ${\omega}^L$ is not in genera an eigenform of the Laplace-Beltrami operator ${\tilde{\Delta}}$ of (${\tilde{M}}$, ${\tilde{g}}$). The present author has obtained a set of formulas which gives the relation between ${\tilde{\Delta}}{\omega}^L$ and ${\Delta}{\omega}$ in another paper [7]. In the present paper a Sasakian submersion is treated. A Sasakian manifold (${\tilde{M}}$, ${\tilde{g}}$, ${\tilde{\xi}}$) considered in this paper is such a one which admits a Riemannian submersion where the base manifold is a Kaehler manifold (M, g, J) and the fibers are geodesics generated by the unit Killing vector field ${\tilde{\xi}}$. Then the submersion is called a Sasakian submersion. If ${\omega}$ is a eigenform of ${\Delta}$ on (M, g, J) and its lift ${\omega}^L$ is an eigenform of ${\tilde{\Delta}}$ on (${\tilde{M}}$, ${\tilde{g}}$, ${\tilde{\xi}}$), then ${\omega}$ is called an eigenform of the first kind. We define a relative eigenform of ${\tilde{\Delta}}$. If the lift ${\omega}^L$ of an eigenform ${\omega}$ of ${\Delta}$ is a relative eigenform of ${\tilde{\Delta}}$ we call ${\omega}$ an eigenform of the second kind. Such objects are studied.

The possibility of using hyphomycete fungi as suitable biocontrol agents against greenhouse whitefly has led to the isolation of various insect pathogenic fungi. Among them is Beauveria bassiana, one of the most studied entomopathogenic fungi. The objective of this study was to use B. bassiana M130 as an insecticidal agent against the greenhouse whitefly. M130 isolated from infected insects is known to be a biocontrol agent against greenhouse whitefly. Phylogenetic classification of M130 was determined according to its morphological features and 18S rRNA sequence analysis. M130 was identified as B. bassiana M130 and showed chitinase (342.28 units/ml) and protease (461.70 units/ml) activities, which were involved in the invasion of the host through the outer cuticle layer, thus killing them. The insecticidal activity was 55.2% in petri-dish test, 84.6% in pot test, and 45.3% in field test. The results of this study indicate that B. bassiana has potential as a biological agent for the control of greenhouse whitefly to replace chemical pesticides.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of animal carcasses treatment and quarantine management of infectious diseases of livestock, and to present the effectiveness of quarantine and follow-up management of livestock infectious diseases. Method: Actually, a livestock epidemic occurred and the burial site and burial management facility that treated livestock carcasses were visited on-site to analyze the management status and problems. Result: The burial method of livestock outbreaks of livestock infectious diseases and the long-term follow-up management accordingly requires a large amount of manpower and budget to be spent. For example, it can be seen that it is an inefficient quarantine system. Conclusion: It is necessary to review plans for the establishment of integrated livestock infectious animal carcasses treatment facilities at the level of metropolitan cities, districts, and municipalities with the government, where there is no fear of secondary infectious disease transmission and no follow-up management is required.

The Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus, Atlantic salmon Salmo salar, rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss, olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus, common carp Cyprinus carpio, grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella and rohu carp Labeo rohita are farmed commercially worldwide. Production of these important finfishes is rapidly expanding, and intensive culture practices can lead to stress in fish, often reducing resistance to infectious diseases. Antibiotics and other drugs are routinely used for the treatment of diseases and sometimes applied preventatively to combat microbial pathogens. This strategy is responsible for the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance, mass killing of environmental/beneficial bacteria, and residual effects in humans. As an alternative, the administration of probiotics has gained acceptance for disease control in aquaculture. Probiotics have been found to improve growth, feed utilization, immunological status, disease resistance, and to promote transcriptomic profiles and internal microbial balance of host organisms. The present review discusses the effects of single and multi-strain probiotics on growth, immunity, heamato-biochemical parameters, and disease resistance of the above-mentioned finfishes. The application and outcome of probiotics in the field or open pond system, gaps in existing knowledge, and issues worthy of further research are also highlighted.
Experiments were conducted to investigate seed persistence of Chinese milk vetch(CMV) in naturally reseeded rice field in 2007~2009. The seed and pods with seeds were buried in rice field at 0, 5 and 10 cm depths and retrieved from the field at one to three month intervals from July to the following year March and determined change of seed dormancy and viability. In the second experiment, persistence of the CMV seeds in the naturally reseeded rice field at different tillage methods and soil depths were also investigated after rice harvest in autumn. Burial depths and durations affected recovery rate, dormancy and viability of CMV seed. The viability loss was faster and greater in the seed than the pod with seeds and on the soil surface than the 5 or 10 cm burial depths. The recovery rate of CMV seed was decreased starting from one month as seed burial and it was significantly decreased to 52~65% for the seed in September. However, unlike the seed burial, the nearly 100% CMV seeds were recovered for burial as pod with seeds even after four months burial in both 0 and 5 cm depths. However, the recovery rate was sharply declined to below 30% at October in 2007 in both seed and pods with seeds and in the 2008/2009 experiment. the 15~47% of CMV seeds still remained even after October. The CMV had high seed dormancy of 95%, showing only 4~5% germination at the beginning in June but the seed germination increased to 25 to 35% in seed and 55 to 61% in pod with seeds in September due to breakage of hard seed dormancy. The viability loss was faster in the seed than in the pod with seeds regardless of depths of placement in the soil base on decayed seeds. Also the seed placed on the soil surface lost viability faster than the 5~10 burial depths. On the other hand, field observation in the naturally reseeded CMV rice field showed that as many as 917~2,185 CMV seeds $m^2$ were from the 0~15 cm soil depth in the rotary tillage and 250~10,105 CMV seeds in minimum tillage treatmints. The recovered seed germinated 25~33%, 23~43% but still had high percentage of hard seed having 64~72% and 51~77% even after rice harvest in autumn. These results indicate that freshly harvested CMV seeds had high level of primary dormancy and the dormancy was gradually broken in soil with time during rice cultivation periods and appreciable number of CMV seeds remained even 4 month after burial in soil. CMV plant regenerated naturally from the remained seed bank at rice harvest time in autumn. The CMV seedling still emerged even after 2 years of continuous destructive killing of emerged CMV plant by rotary tillage in naturally reseeded CMV plant in rice field, indicating that CMV seeds do persistent as least two years in soil.
Lesion enlargement of ginger rhizome rot was most rapid at 35~40 C, but delayed greatly as temperature decreased. Time needed for a killing a ginger plant, 22~25 cm long, was about 5 days at 35~40 C, but was 15 days at 15 C in a growth chamber test. Higher RH above 90%, higher soil moisture level above 80% of maximum soil moisture capacity, and deeper planting below 4cm enhanced the lesion development on ginger stems and rhizomes. Pythium myriotylum existed in field soil as forms of hyphal portion, hyphal swelling body, or oospore- or zoospore-like bodies, and served as the origin of its colonization. Inocula of P. myriotylum was randomly distributed in soil surface around ginger plants, but its density was decreased as increasing soil depth with the highest density at 0~10 cm soil depth. Population density of P. myriotylum did not vary significantly between the rhizoplane and the rhizosphere soil of a ginger plant, but differed greatly between the disessed and healthy plants with several to several hundreds times higher population in the diseased plants. A positive curvilinear relationship was found between P. myriotylum density and ginger rhizome rot severity.
Pink rot of Palm was occurred at Yeuju area in 2001 and 2003. Infected plants showed rotting at the leaf-stock bases and killing of the terminal bud. The first symptoms are dark brown necrotic areas on the stem. Bases of infected frond may be covered with pink spores and the spots produced oozing gum pockets. Oozing lesions occur on the stems, and leaves turn brown and droop. The causal agent were isolated from salmon-pink spores sporulating on the leaf sheaths and necrotic stem tissues. Pathogen were isolated from freshly infected tissues were identified as Gliocladium vermoseni based on mycological characteristics. Fungus were grown plenty on PDA culture. Temperature for mycelial grown was tested at 5 to $40^{\circ}C$ and optimal temperature was $25^{\circ}C$ and was not nearly grew at temperature above $35^{\circ}C$. Artificial pathogenicity were tested on 9 species of Palm family in the wound inoculation and symptoms showed similar to those observed in the field. This is the first report on pink rot of palm in Korea.

Unlike live ammunition which has killing power due to the use of high explosives, training ammunition has only the limited explosive effect needed for training purposes, so the risk of accidents is lowered. Because training ammunition is used in large quantities during military drills, the problem of environmental pollution occurs. As most of the waste is left out in the training field, using bio-degradable polymers such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) can provide a solution to these environmental issues. However, bio-degradable polymers such as PLA usually have poor thermal and mechanical properties compared with other general purpose polymers, so they need to be improved before they can be used for military purposes. In this study, Talc is added to the PLA used for the parts of Training Grenades to improve some of their properties and the changes of their thermal and mechanical properties were verified. In the case of the 1 wt.% ~ 5 wt.% PLA/Talc blends, the thermal properties were improved in proportion to the content of Talc, but the best mechanical properties were observed for the 1 wt.% and 3 wt.% PLA/Talc blends.

For investigating the activities of algicidal bacteria, the variations of algicidal bacterial population and chlorophyll-a were checked weekly in Chindong Bay, Korea from May to July, 1998. For identifying their killing characteristics, three strains were selected from the isolated algicidal bacteria. The density of algicidal bacteria kept changing in the range of $6.0\times10^1$ to $6.4\times10^5$ cell $\ell^{-1}$. The density flux of algicidal bacteria coincided with that of chlorophyll-a by a week of lag time. Three algicidal bacteria isolated from field strains, H519S5-4, H605S5-15 and H605S5-22, were investigated in nine microalgal species, Heterosigma akashiwo, Chattonella sp. (Raphidlphyceae), Gymnodinium catenatum, Gyrodinium impudicum, Cochlodinium polyklikoides (Dinophyceae), Chaetoceros sp., Coscinodiscus granii, Ditylum brightwellii, Thalassiosira rotula (Bacillariophyceae). Strain H605S5-22 showed a wide algicidal activities over nine microlgae, strain H605S5-15 over H. akashiwo, G. catenatum, T. rotula, Chattonella sp. and strain H519S5-4 over H. akashiwo, Chattonella sp., Chaetoceros sp., G. catenatum. The activities of the three strains were detected by the secretion of algicidal substances. Therefore, it is suggested that the activities of algicidal bacteria have a significant influence over the population dynamics of phytoplankton and get involved with the sharp decrease in red tides in the coastal area.
