Global seismic damage assessment of high-rise hybrid structures

  • Nowadays, many engineers believe that hybrid structures with reinforced concrete central core walls and perimeter steel frames offer an economical method to develop the strength and stiffness required for seismic design. As a result, a variety of such structures have recently been applied in actual construction. However, the performance-based seismic design of such structures has not been investigated systematically. In the performance-based seismic design, quantifying the seismic damage of complete structures by damage indices is one of the fundamental issues. Four damage states and the final softening index at each state for high-rise hybrid structures are suggested firstly in this paper. Based on nonlinear dynamic analysis, the relation of the maximum inter-story drift, the main structural characteristics, and the final softening index is obtained. At the same time, the relation between the maximum inter-story drift and the maximum roof displacement over the height is also acquired. A double-variable index accounting for maximum deformation and cumulative energy is put forward based on the pushover analysis. Finally, a case study is conducted on a high-rise hybrid structure model tested on shaking table before to verify the suggested quantities of damage indices.

  • International construction projects typically manifest difficult, complex, and varied types of risk exposures; because of this, there is a need for accurate evaluation of risk-integrated performances during the timeframe of project execution. Given the financial crisis currently affecting the world economy recession, risk management has become a more crucial part for the success of international project management. However, the majority of risk management approaches, particularly for overseas projects, are focused primarily on simple forms of checklists, formalization of risk variables affecting project performance for a specific phase, or more complicated computational methods that restricting practical utilization in real-world projects; moreover, these methods lack the conceptual basis to broadly visualize the level of risk over all phases of a project. This study suggests an efficient, yet simple risk-integrated total index to successfully assess the risk levels of overseas construction projects. To this end, this paper first investigates the life cycles and key processes of decision-making for a given project and then derives formulas to represent the total risk index (TRI) along the key decision-making processes. In addition, the study examines the relationships between TRI and performance levels based on the analysis of 126 real-world project samples. Validations using the proposed TRI showed a high correlation to project performance, signifying the usefulness of the proposed approach for construction firms when investigating the level of risks and key areas for management focus.

Privacy-Preserving Cloud Data Security: Integrating the Novel Opacus Encryption and Blockchain Key Management

  • With the growing adoption of cloud-based technologies, maintaining the privacy and security of cloud data has become a pressing issue. Privacy-preserving encryption schemes are a promising approach for achieving cloud data security, but they require careful design and implementation to be effective. The integrated approach to cloud data security that we suggest in this work uses CogniGate: the orchestrated permissions protocol, index trees, blockchain key management, and unique Opacus encryption. Opacus encryption is a novel homomorphic encryption scheme that enables computation on encrypted data, making it a powerful tool for cloud data security. CogniGate Protocol enables more flexibility and control over access to cloud data by allowing for fine-grained limitations on access depending on user parameters. Index trees provide an efficient data structure for storing and retrieving encrypted data, while blockchain key management ensures the secure and decentralized storage of encryption keys. Performance evaluation focuses on key aspects, including computation cost for the data owner, computation cost for data sharers, the average time cost of index construction, query consumption for data providers, and time cost in key generation. The results highlight that the integrated approach safeguards cloud data while preserving privacy, maintaining usability, and demonstrating high performance. In addition, we explore the role of differential privacy in our integrated approach, showing how it can be used to further enhance privacy protection without compromising performance. We also discuss the key management challenges associated with our approach and propose a novel blockchain-based key management system that leverages smart contracts and consensus mechanisms to ensure the secure and decentralized storage of encryption keys.

  • Recently, there has been growing interest in the financial and economic effectiveness of service quality and customer satisfaction. It means that the final goal of customer satisfaction is the maximization with firms' financial performance, enterprise could survive through the creation of continuous financial performance. Companies are working in various ways to identify the direct relationship of service quality and customer satisfaction with financial and economic effectiveness in order to justify and validate customer satisfaction management. In this study, the influence of customer satisfaction on the financial performance is examined. Customer satisfaction index, the key non-financial performance measure has significant association with firms' financial performance index. Moreover, high customer satisfaction has a competitive advantage, so it can be the key success factor of firm's financial performance improvement.

  • A performance measurement system for safety management was suggested with which performance of a company's safety activities can be expressed rationally, and analysis of impact with performance improvement. A key of the measurement system is performance index of the safety management activities, which consists of 3 perspectives; an external perspective, an internal perspective, and a innovation & learning perspective. Every perspective consists of 18 performance indices and each indices consist of activity unit a such planning, support, implementation, evaluation and review.

A Delphi Approach to the Development of an Integrated Performance Measurement and Management Model for a Car Assembler

  • Today's dynamic competitiveness requires an organization to improve its performance measurement and management. Quality Management Systems (QMS) abound, the main ones being: ISO series, Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award (MBNQA), European Forum for Quality Management (EFQM), Six Sigma Business Scorecard and the Balanced Scorecard. Based on the literature, the IPMMM (Integrated Performance Measurement and Management Model) identified 7 key synthesized factors: leadership, strategy management and policy, customer and market, learning and growth, partnership and resources, internal processes and business results that are employed to investigate the key performance indicators of a car assembler using the Delphi methodology. In the 2 rounds of Delphi panels consisting of 20 senior management personnel, the $1^{st}$ round of 198 indicators in the IPMMM yielded 90 indicators. The $2^{nd}$ round yielded 43 performance indicators with 18 rated as critical based on the % assigned in the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ priority rating of "very important factor" and "key performance indicator" that must be ranked high on both of the priorities. The very critical indicators appeared to be: defect percentage and first time capability (tie in $1^{st}$ place) and revenue, goal setting, customer satisfaction index, on-time delivery, brand image, return on investment, Claim Occurrence Ratio, and debt being ranked from $3^{rd}$ to $10^{th}$. It can be surmised that an organization can identify and develop an appropriate set of performance indicators through the Delphi methodology and implement and manage them based on the Balanced Scorecard.

Development of Performance Indicators Based on Balanced Score Card for School Food Service Facilities (균형성과표(BSC)개념을 적응한 학교급식 운영성과 측정지표 개발)

  • This study raised the necessity of developing performance indicators for measuring the management efficiency and effectiveness of school food service, and as a means of helping its implementation, a balanced score card (BSC) approach developed by Norton and Kaplan was adopted. This study established BSC in seven phases through literature: Phase 1 Defining a school food service and the scope of working activities, Phase 2 Establishing the vision of a school food service, Phase 3 Setting strategic goals, Phase 4 Identifying critical success factors (CSFs), Phase 5 Developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Phase 6 Extracting cause and effect relationship, and Phase 7 Completing a preliminary BSC. The preliminary BSC was fumed into a survey, which was administered to food service related people working at the Office of Education and School Food Service including 16 offices,209 dietitians, 48 school administrators both from self-operated and contract-managed, and 9 experts in areas related to school food service. They were asked questions about strategies from 4 different perspectives,12 CSFs, 39 KPls, and the cause and effect relationships among them. As a result, among the CSFs based on 4 different perspectives, all factors other than ' zero sum on profit/loss ' from the financial perspective turned out to be valid. In terms of KPIs, manufacturing cost percentages, casualty loss count/reduction rates, school foodervice participation rates, and sales goal achievement rates were found to be valid from the financial perspective, while student satisfaction index, faculty satisfaction index, leftover ratio, nutrition educational performance count, index of evaluating nutrition education, customer claim count/reduction rate, handling customer claim count/reduction rate, and parent satisfaction index were found to be valid from the customers' perspective. Besides, nutritional requirement sufficient ratio, nutritional management score, food poisoning outbreak count, employee safety accident count, sanitary inspection assessment index, meals per labor hour (productivity index), computerization ratio, operational management index, and purchase management assessment index were also found to be valid from the perspective of internal business processes. From the perspective of innovation and learning, employee turnover ratio/rate of absenteeism, annual education and training count, employee satisfaction index, human resource management assessment index, annual menu-related customer feedback, food service information index for employees and parents/schools were also found to be valid. The significance of this study is to present indices for measuring overall performance of school lunch food service operations without putting any limitation on types of school food service management, and to help correctly assess the contribution of the current types of school food service management to schools and students.   • Offset is a peculiar trade form, the compensation of importing the weapon system, accompanied by the international weapon system contract. Korea has been applying offset to defense acquisition program for fostering the domestic defense industry and improving defense R&D ability since Korean offset policy was built up in 1983. However, there are not enough evidences for benefits of offset and it is rather believed that the performance management system of offset is not thoroughgoing enough because of lack of the systematic policy. It is essential to develop the well-organized performance management system in order to maximize outcomes from application of technology obtained by offset. The main objective of this paper is to propose key performance index that is practically useful to manage offset performance systematically and maximize outcomes of offset.

Development of the Key Performance Indicators of Long-term Care Visiting Nursing Centers Using Balanced Score Cards (균형성과표를 이용한 노인장기요양 방문간호센터의 핵심성과지표 개발)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop effective management indicators for improving efficiencies of visiting nursing centers. Method: This was a methodological research study to develop the key performance indicators based on balanced score cards for long-term care visiting nursing centers. The main methods used in this study were literature review, focus group interview, and content validity index. The data analysis was used frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Results: The common vision of the long-term care visiting nursing centers was identified as "The healthy visiting nursing center to serve high quality cares." Eight action strategies and 15 key performance indicators to achieve this vision were developed. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, we suggest that the developed balanced score cards will be used as an effective managerial guideline to improve performances of long-term care visiting nursing centers.
