  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of Tabata exercise and Kettle bell exercise on vital capacity, skeletal muscle mass, and endurance in women. Methods : Twenty subjects participated in this study. They were divided into two group: a Tabata exercise group (n=10) and a kettle bell exercise group (n=10). Both groups performed their assigned exercise 3 times a weeks for 6 weeks. Result : There were statistically significant differences in FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, PEF, and VC (p<.05) between the Tabata exercise group and the kettle bell exercise group. There were also statistically significant differences in skeletal muscle mass and endurance function (p<.05) between the two groups. The Tabata exercise group demonstrated greater improvements in fitness parameters compared to those demonstrated by the kettle bell exercise group. Conclusion : The Tabata exercise group was more effective at increasing vital capacity, skeletal muscle mass, and endurance compared to the kettle bell exercise group.

  • Purpose: This study examined the effect of Kettle bell swing exercise on the body composition and lower limb muscular activity. Methods: As subjects, 26 normal adults in their twenties were divided randomly into the experiment group (n=13), in which Kettle bell exercise was applied, and the control group (n=13), in which bar exercise was applied. Both groups participated in the interventions for eight weeks with three sessions per week. Each group was assessed before training and four and eight weeks into the training to determine the effects of training intervention within and between the groups. The body composition was measured with a body composition analyzer. The changes in muscle activity were measured with a surface electromyography. An independent t-test was conducted to test the significance between the groups according to the measurement points and Repeated measured ANOVA was performed to compare the groups according to the periods with the statistical significance level set to ${\alpha}=0.05$. Results: No significant changes to the main effects of time and the interactions of time according to the measurement points were observed in the Kettle bell and control groups in the body composition (p>0.05). The muscular activity of both muscles were significantly different between the Kettle bell and control groups according to the measurement points with the exception of the right lateral gastrocnemius muscle (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that Kettle bell swing exercise can have positive effects on the development of lower limb muscles.

  • Bell's palsy is not a serious disease and recovery is spontaneous in more half of the patients, but this recovery is long delayed in many instances and the cosmetic effect of an altered facial appearance is psychologically distressing. The etiology is unknown, but Kettle's ischemic hypothesis has been widely accepted. The aim of treatment is to reduce edema and improve circulation to the facial nerve. Stellate ganglion block (SGB) resulted in abolishing cerebral vascular spasm and in increasing cerebral blood flow. Thus, stellate ganglion block is effective in treatment of Bell's palsy. From 1978 to Oct. 1988, we have treated 222 patients (20 patients were recurred cases) with facial palsy by SGB and analysed the effect of SGB. We noticed that SGB was very effective in early repetitive treatment (90% recovery). This study is reported and the literature is reviewed.

  • Hearing impaired persons are exposed to the danger since they can't be aware of many dangerous situations like fire alarms, car hones and so on. Therefore they need haptic or visual informations when they meet dangerous situations. In this paper, we design a dangerous sound detection engine for hearing impaired. We consider four dangerous indoor situations such as a boiled sound of kettle, a fire alarm, a door bell and a phone ringing. For outdoor, two dangerous situations such as a car horn and a siren of emergency vehicle are considered. For a test, 6 data sets are collected from those six situations. we extract LPC, LPCC and MFCC as feature vectors from the collected data and compare the vectors for feasibility. Finally we design a matching engine using an artificial neural network and perform classification tests. We perform classification tests for 3 times considering the use outdoors and indoors. The test result shows the feasibility for the dangerous sound detection.
