  • During the period of 2 years from 1993 to 1994, epidemiological investigation were carried out each time the outbreak of rabies suspected cases were informed and all specimens were transported to the Kangwon-do Veterinary Service Lab. At the Lab., autopsy and laboratory examinations were conducted as well. The results obtained as follows 1. The dogs and cattles were confirmed to be infected with rabies virus by routine histopathological findings, indirect flulrescent antibody technique, and mouth inoculation test. 2. The total numbers of rabies occured in dogs and cattles were 9, 5 heads, respectively. The regional distribution of total of 14 heads were 9 heads in Chulwon, 2 heads in Hwachun, 1 head Yangku, 2 heads in Inje and the highest number of outbreaks were orrured in Chulwon. 3. Most of dogs showed furious type and dumb type found in only one dog. 4. Cattles showed the symtoms of uneasiness feeling, excitement, disturbance howling, the change of voice, sexual accelaration, foreign body swatting and attacked to human and ani-mal and found to be died after two or four days. 5. In the seasonal outbreaks of rabies, 8 heads of the highest incidence were occured in win-ter followed by 4 heads in autumn, 1 head in spring and 1 head in summer. 6. The first outbreaks of rabies was reported in Chulwon and then transmitted into Hwachun, Yangku and Inje in turn. 7 The infectious source was supposed to be wild animals such as laccon dog, badger etc. living around the D. M. Z.

  • This profile presents a brief overview of the past and current primary health care of Saje PHCP in Wonju Si, Kangwon-Do, Korea. Because of the increasing in the proportion of the elderly in the population and the vulnerability among groups, they are one of the main targets of the PHC through programs such as chronic disease management, health promotion activities (exercise, diet, smoking and alcohol control). Curative services have been decreased and preventive services have been increased.

  • In this study, we used a choropleth map to explore the spatial variation of the risk of cattle herds being bovine tuberculosis (BTB) positive in Gangwon-do in 2015. The map shows that the risk of being BTB-positive was lower in provinces located in the middle of Gangwon-do (Wonju, Youngwol, Peongchang, and Kangneung) than in other provinces. In addition, one province located in the north (Goseong) had a low risk of BTB. The estimate for the intercept of the spatial lag model was 0.66, and the spatial autocorrelation coefficient (lambda) was 0.20 (Table 1). The Moran's I was 0.33 with p-value of 0.02. In 2015, provinces located in the North West (Hwacheon) and East (Donghae) of Gangwon-do had a higher BTB risk. We identified some specific provinces at low BTB-positive risk, information that may prove useful for control of BTB in the study area.

  • To study the distribution of larva and juvenile of the sand eel, Ammodytes personatus in the Kangwon coastal, samples were collected by the larva net (RN 80 net) and small drag net at 60 stations from January 1996 to December. Appearance season of larva and juvenile of sand eel was appeared untill the January to June in the Kangwon-do coast, and the densities of them were high in June. Appearance phase, length frequency distribution of larva and juvenile of sand eel were distributed that the average standard length 10.0~30.0mm in the temperature range of $5.0{\sim}6.0^{\circ}C$ at the January to March, and April to June occurred the average standard length 40.0~80.0 mm in the temperature range of $7.2{\sim}12.0^{\circ}C$. It was distributed in southern part of Kangwon-do coast until the February to March 1996. And association of the sand eel migrated to the northern and middle part of Kangwon-do coast at April when surface water temperature was higher than $7.2^{\circ}C$. It was considered that the migration of the abundance larva and juvenile of sand eel in this area is mainly affected by the water temperature.

  • Atmospheric concentrations of acidic pollutant were measured by the 4 stage filter pak method at Chunchon and by the 3 stage filter pack method at Seoul and Anmyon-do from January to December 1998. The sample was collected for 24 hours on every Wednesday. Concentrations of particulate matters were highest at Anmyon-do. The particulate concentration was much higher during the warm season than other seasons. While the particulate concentration was higher during the warm season, the concentration of gaseous matter was higher in winter. Dry deposition flux was calculated by using reported deposition velocities and concentration of pollutants measured in this study. The dry deposition velocities used in this study for SO$_2$, SO$_{4}^{2}$, HNO$_3$,NO$_{3}^{-}$ and NH$_3$ were 0.29, 0.15, 2.08( 2.13 only for Anmyon-do), 0.20 and 1.00cm/sec, respectively. At Chunchon, annual sulfur flux originated from dry deposition was 384 kg/$textrm{km}^2$, and the flux from wet deposition was 782kg/$textrm{km}^2$. Dry deposition of sulfur was 33% of total sulfur deposition. The annual nitrogen flux originated from dry deposition was 1,892kg/$textrm{km}^2$. And the flux from wet deposition was 1,066kg/$textrm{km}^2$. Dry deposition of nitrogen was 64% of total nitrogen deposition. Dry deposition as well as wet deposition have to be considerd in the study on acidification of environment such as soil or watershed.

  • The antioxidative activity measured by electron donating ability was investigated for the breeding of the highest antioxidative waxy corn (Zea mays L.) and the research for the most effective antioxidant in waxy corn. The electron donating ability was $15.5{\sim}65.0%$. The contents of phenolic compounds and tocopherols and the absorbance at 450 nm were $102.3{\sim}323.5\;{\mu}g/mL$, $15.6{\sim}144.2\;{\mu}g/mL$ and $0.047{\sim}0.206$, respectively. The mean values of electron donating ability and contents of phenolic compounds and tocopherols of four black waxy corn were comparatively high, that is, 48.7%, $267.0\;{\mu}g/mL$ and $87.0\;{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The electron donating ability was significantly correlated with the level of phenolic compounds and tocopherols but not with the content of carotenoids.

  • This study was carried out to estimate drying schedule of Fagaceae four species grown in Kangwon-Do by oven-drying at $100^{\circ}C$ which aimed to elucidate the characteristics such as current moisture content, drying process, initial check, collapse and internal check during drying following each board thickness (1.5cm, 2.5cm, 3.5cm, 4.5cm). The results were as follows; Current moisture content of each board showed a rapid drying curve with the high initial moisture content of board. With the high initial moisture content, the incease of board thickness and the slowness of changing rate of moisture content, species took long to do drying. Also, the initial conditions of drying had to be mild condition with the increase of board thickness.
