  • This study evaluated trends in research funding and the present status of food science in Korea with a special emphasis on funding by Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF). The proportion of research funds allocated to food science has increased every year in agricultural science. The numbers of group-based programs of KOSEF have been increasing since 1980' and the ratio of individual-based programs decreased in . this-field. Researchers in the food science field ranges. from 46 to 50 years of age, with a mean age of 47. Mid- to long-term research master plans will be required to encourage food science research in Korea.

  • In this study, price discovery among the KOSPI200 markets(KOSPI200 spot, KOSPI200 Futures and The ETFs) is investigated using the vector error correction model(VECM). The main findings are as follows. KODEX200(KOSEF200), KOSPI200 spot and Futures are cointegrated in most cases. Daily data from KODEX200(KOSEF200), KOSPI200 spot and KOSPI200 futures show that the movements of the three markets are interrelated. Specially, KODEX200 contains the most information, followed by the KOSPI200 spot and futures markets. KODEX200 contribute to the price discovery process. Namely KODEX200 plays a more dominant role in price discovery than the KOSPI200 spot and futures.

  • Research outputs of science and engineering fields including Life Sciences were analyzed using KOSEF's Database. The total number of Life Sciences scientists participating in KOSEF's Database was 7,413(33.1 percent), and during the latest five years(2001 to 2005), the number of articles published in SCI(Scientific Citation Index) journals and Non-SCI journals by them was 47,740(37.7 percent) and 72,115(39.9 percent), respectively. The average number of articles per capita published in SCI journals during the latest five years was 5.0 in Biology, 4.1 in Agricultural Sciences, and 7.5 in Medical Sciences. The average number of articles per capita published in SCI journals within Life Sciences was 12.1 in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, 10.3 in Allergy and Immunology, 10.0 in Physiology and Pharmacology, 9.7 in Anatomy and Cell Biology, in order. The results of this survey will be used as a reference in comparisons of research output between Life Sciences and other sciences both in quality and quantity.

  • This study concerns performance evaluation of the research-funding agencies focused on Korea Science and Engineering Foundation(KOSEF). On the basis of the constituents approach and the systems approach of organizational effectiveness theory, the evaluation items are derived reflecting generic characteristics of the research-funding agencies, and their priorities are determined using analytic hierarchy process(AHP). Three groups of constituents with differing interest and expections are identified, and their perceptions on the importance of the evaluation items are measured through questionnaire survey. Analyses show that the evaluation items perceived important by each constituency are significant different from one another. The implications of the result to the Government and KOSEF are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study lies in evaluating the quality of Website user interface, with emphasis on the users'perspectives. To the end, we developed an user-oriented evaluation criteria and indicators, and on the basis of these criteria and indicators, conducted a systematic evaluation on the websites of KOSEF's 21 Research Information Centers, which were selected as samples for this study In particular, this study attempted to identify both examples and variables which causes the User group's dissatification on the interface of the sampled websites. Finally suggested are the strategies and methods for improving the quality of user interface in R&D websites.

  • This paper proposes a neuro-fuzzy adaptive controller which includes the procedure of initializing the identification neural network(INN) and that of learning the control neural network(CNN). The identification neural network is initialized with the informations of the plant which are obtained by a fuzzy controller and the control neural network is trained by the weight informations of the identification neural network during on-line operation.
