This study intends to make a comprehensive investigation on an application of FRBR model to KORMARC records. To the end, issues associated with FRBR implementation are analyzed, and automatic algorithms to covert bibliographic records into FRBR model are examined thoroughly. On the basis of it. this study implemented four-level hierarchical bibliographic structure of FRBR model using existing KORMARC records. 161 sample records for an experiment were selected from Korea national library. The work chosen as sample records was "Hamlet." Results suggest that considerable difficulties would be encountered in the process of FRBRizing KORMARC records.

인터넷에서의 정보자원의 증가에 따라 정보자원관리 기법의 관심이 높아지고 있는 가운데 기존의 HTML과 SGML의 단점을 보완한 구조화된 포맷인 XML의 응용에 대한 연구가 활발해지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 전통적인 도서관에서 서지레코드로 널리 사용되고 있는 구조화된 포맷인 MARC을 대상으로 현황과 문제점을 살펴보고, MARC을 XML로 변환하는 데 따른 기대효과를 고찰한다. 또한, 우리나라 MARC 포맷인 KORMARC을 XML로 변환하기 위하여 KORMARC에 대한 DTD를 설계한다.

The goal of this study is to seek for the method of effective DB conversion and related system development for the integrated KORMARC Format on the basis of the case of Sogang University Library. Since the integrated KORMARC bibliographic format was established, libraries have been converting bibliographic DB according to the new format. Loyola Library of Sogang University internally proceeded DB conversion using bibliographic DB convertor, which was developed and customized with a system vendor for Sogang University Library. The internal conversion enabled to correct or supplement bibliographic data errors. Besides, it enhanced stability of conversion and shortened the project time by adopting sampling conversion method. It was effective to reduce the additional work for DB quality maintenance, so this kind of conversion is recommendable to the library that has limited manpower for manual data correction.

As the development of the new integrated KORMARC format is completed and the problems of KORMARC aroused by different formats by different material types are settled, librarians' interests have increased in adopting the new integrated format. This article attempts to demonstrate the necessity of adopting the new format and suggests some considering points in its application process. To effectively adopt the new format, firstly the scope of new format application should be decided, and then data conversion and related program development should be followed. It is hoped that this article will raise the understanding of the integrated KORMARC format and give some guidelines to libraries considering its adoption and library system vendors.

BIBFRAME, which is attracting attention as an alternative to the machine-readable catalog format (MARC) in the library world, presents a new bibliographic data model in the open web environment while maintaining compatibility with existing data. To convert KORMARC(Korean data model of MARC) records into BIBFRAME, we extract 25 key fields by analyzing the latest 5,000 bibliographic data from Nowon-gu Library in Seoul. The extracted core fields are classified into three types according to the compatibility of MARC 21, and define conversion rules for each type. In addition, implement an open source-based converter to perform KORMARC to BIBFRAME conversion. As a basic study on KORMARC to BIBFRAME conversion, this study is meaningful in that it analyzes the latest KORMARC information actually used, defines conversion rules, and attempts BIBFRAME conversion.

문헌정보처리 표준화도구인 MARC는 포멧의 문제점과 다양한 웹자원 메타데이터 정보조직의 문제점으로 인하여 웹 기반의 XML표준 포멧의 도입을 시도하였고, MARCXML로 변환되어 시스템간 상호운용되고 있으나, MARCXML은 서지정보의 의미특성이나 메타데이터의 표현을 고려하지 않고 단순히 MARC 레코드의 표현을 XML 구조로 변환한 것일 뿐이다. 시맨틱의 핵심기술로 부각되고 있는 Topic Map은 XML기반의 표준기술언어인 ISO의 XTM을 이용해 정보와 지식의 분산 관리를 지원하는 기술이다. 학술정보자원에 대한 DB 구축 시 Topic Map언어인 XTM을 이용한다면 이미 개발된 여러 메타데이터 등을 한곳으로 통합하면서도 신축성과 확장성을 제공하는 것이 용이하게 된다. 하지만, 기존 시스템에서 새로운 Topic Map을 구축하는 것은 많은 비용과 시간이 소요되는 등 어려운 일이다. 본 연구에서는 기 구축된 학술DB로부터 Topic Map에서 재활용할 수 있는 요소들을 추출하기 위한 정보 소스로서 데이터베이스 스키마와 MARC에서 언급하는 메타데이터를 이용하는 것은, XML의 특징인 시스템간 상호운용성을 확보함과 동시에 기초 학문자료의 복잡한 관계의 개념구조, 자료유형 및 자료간의 의미적 상관관계 등을 표현에 있어 효율적인 개발방법임을 제안한다.
