The rheological properties of biopolymers produced by Bacillus sp. K-1 and its mutant strains(KM-21, KM-83) were studied. Apparent viscosity of biopolymers decreased as rising the temperature. The biopolymer produced by KM-21 strain showed 1.7 times low viscosity, 2.7 times low viscosity by K-1 and 1.9 times low viscosity by KM-83 at $80^{\circ}C$ compared with at $20^{\circ}C$ respectively. The viscosity of biopolymer solution also increased with increasing the polymer concentration and showed pseudoplastic characteristics which is high temperature dependency in all concentration. The change of the biopolymer viscosity on the pH showed the highest value at the pH 7.0 and it showed lower at acidic condition than at alkaline condition comparatively.
This study is carried out to evaluate the sight distance change due to construction errors of vertical crest curves. Various design speeds and grades as well as various size of construction errors are incorporated in this study. After showing theoretical methodology numerical results are compared and analysed for the given ranges of parameters. New vertical curve change rate(m/%) is suggested to guarantee minimum sight distance under construction errors. As to the results, the reduction of sight distance are $2.8{\sim}21.3m$ at 120km/h, $2.0{\sim}15.1m$ at 100km/h, $1.4{\sim}10.6m$ at 80km/h, $1.0{\sim}7.5m$ at 60km/h $0.5{\sim}3.9m$ at 40km/h. Vortical curve change rates need to be increased about $6{\sim}25%$ to provide minimum stopping sight distance according to design speed.

Broadband receiver functions are developed from teleseismic P waveforms recorded at Wonju (KSRS), Inchon (IRIS), and Pohang (PHN), and are analyzed to examine the crustal structure beneath the three stations. The teleseismic receiver functions are inverted in the time domain to the vertical P wave velocity structure beneath the stations. Clear P-to-S converted phases from the Moho interface are observed in teleseismic seismograms recorded at the three stations. We estimated the crustal velocity structures beneath the stations using the receiver function inversion. The general features of inversion results are as follows: (1) For Pohang station, there is a high velocity gradient at a 4~5 km deep for SE and NW back azimuth and a low velocity zone at around 10 km deep. The Moho depth is 28 km for NW direction. (2) The shallow crustal structure beneath Wonju station is somewhat complex and there is a high-velocity zone ($V_p{\simeq}6.8km/sec$) at 3 to 4 km deep. The average crustal thickness is 33 km, and a transition zone exists at a 30~33 km deep of lower crust, of which velocity is abruptly changed 6.4 to 7.9 km/sec. (3) For Inchon station, the crustal velocity gradient monotonously increases up to the Moho discontinuity and the velocity is abruptly changed from 6.2 km/sec to 7.9 km/sec at 29 km deep.

Analysis of collection factor was studied to compare various parameters such as collection time, transport time, amount of collection and number of man power by on-the-spot survey at one municipal area and one rural area in Jeju-do. Results showed that the amount of man and time to collect 1 ton of waste of rural area($5.853man{\cdot}hour\;per\;time$) was four times as much as that of municipal area($1.527man{\cdot}hour\;per\;time$). In case of a transport time, rural area(11.08 per km/hr) has similar value to municipal area(11.07 per km/hr) and has half or one third value to the restaurant(36.7km/hr), an apartment area(33.0km/hr) and a detached area(22.4km/hr).
A kanamycin resistance($Km^r$) gene was studied for its transfer in natural freshwater environments by using the natural bacterial isolate(M1) of DK1 and the DKC601 strain, $Km^r$ plasmid of which was genetically engineered from the NI strain. The transfer frequency ofthe $Km^r$ gene and rearrangement of the $Km^r$ plasmid were compared between the gnetically engineered microorganism(GEM) and the NI parental strain by conjugation with the same recipient strain. The transfer frequency of the $Km^r$ gene was about $9.1\times 10^{-12}-1.8\times 10^{-11}$ in both the GEM and NI strains at 5 to $10^{\circ}C$, but the frequency of the NI was about 10 times higher than that of the GEM at 20 to $30^{\circ}C$. The $Km^r$ plasmid in the transconjugants obtained by conjugation of the NI with the MY1 strain as a ricipient showed alot of rearrangement, but the $Km^r$ plasmid transferred from the GEM was stable without alteration of its size. When the MT2 strain was used as a recipient, however, such a rearrangement of the $Km^r$ plamid was observed in the transconjugants obtained from the GEM as well as the NI strain. In those transconjugants obtained from different mating pairs and water environments, the plasmid were appeared to decrease in their number as the period of conjugation time was prolonged, but only the $Km^r$ plasmid transferred from the GEM kept having its size of 52kb. Therefore, the $Km^r$ gene was transferred at the same rate from the GEM and NI strains in natural freshwater environment, but the gene of the GEM strain was more stable than the NIduring conjugation and the $Km^r$ plasmid was rearranged by changing the recipient strain for conjugation in any water environments.
This study investigates the effects of horizontal resolution, cumulus parameterization scheme (CPS), and probability forecasting on precipitation forecasts over the Korean Peninsula from 00 UTC 15 August to 12 UTC 14 September 2013, using the limited-area ensemble prediction system (LEPS) of the Korea Meteorological Administration. To investigate the effect of resolution, the control members of the LEPS with 1.5- and 3-km resolution were compared. Two 3-km experiments with and without the CPS were conducted for the control member, because a 3-km resolution lies within the gray zone. For probability forecasting, 12 ensemble members with 3-km resolution were run using the LEPS. The forecast performance was evaluated for both the whole study period and precipitation cases categorized by synoptic forcing. The performance of precipitation forecasts using the 1.5-km resolution was better than that using the 3-km resolution for both the total period and individual cases. The result of the 3-km resolution experiment with the CPS did not differ significantly from that without it. The 3-km ensemble mean and probability matching (PM) performed better than the 3-km control member, regardless of the use of the CPS. The PM complemented the defect of the ensemble mean, which better predicts precipitation regions but underestimates precipitation amount by averaging ensembles, compared to the control member. Further, both the 3-km ensemble mean and PM outperformed the 1.5-km control member, which implies that the lower performance of the 3-km control member compared to the 1.5-km control member was complemented by probability forecasting.
To estimate the shear-wave velocity (${\nu}_s$ beneath the OTVZ seismic station on Ngauruhoe volcano in New Zealand, we calculated receiver functions (RFs) using 127 teleseismic data ($Mw{\geq}5.5$) with high signal-to-noise ratios recorded during November 11, 2011 to September 11, 2013. The genetic inversion algorithms was applied to 21 RFs calculated by the iterative time-domain deconvolution method. In the 1-D ${\nu}_s$ model derived by the inversion, the Moho is observed at a 14 km depth, marked by a ${\nu}_s$ transition from 3.7 km/s to 4.7 km/s. The average ${\nu}_s$ of the overlying crust is 3.4 km/s, and the average ${\nu}_s$ of a greater than 9-km thick low-velocity layer (LVL) in the lower crust is 3.1 km/s. The LVL becomes thinner with increasing distance from the station. Another LVL thicker than 10 km with ${\nu}_s$ less than 4.3 km/s is found in the upper mantle. Those LVLs in the lower crust and the upper mantle and the relatively thin crust might be related to the magma activity caused by the subducting Pacific plate.
This study was to understand the ecological characteristics of the goral through the study on goral behavioral characteristics and to be carried out to provide basic behavioral data such as annual home range, seasonal home range and monthly used altitude with 4,752 locations obtained during the study period through home range analysis of three long-tailed gorals (Naemorhedus caudatus) in Soeraksan. For this study, gorals who were rescued from heavy snow in Seoraksan were used. The gorals were equipped with GPS Collar, released at their natural habitats, and then monitored from May, 2010 to September, 2011. According to our results, annual home ranges of the gorals (n=3) have $0.88km^2$ of MCP 95%, $0.27km^2$ of MCP 50%, $0.43km^2$ of FK 95%, and $0.09km^2$ of FK 50% respectively. Seasonal home range of MCP 95% was $0.47km^2$ in spring, $0.45km^2$ in summer, $0.63km^2$ in fall and $0.50km^2$ in winter respectively and home ranges of fall was the largest. In the case of FK 95% analysis, home ranges were $0.23km^2$ in spring, $0.19km^2$ in summer, $0.33km^2$ in fall, and $0.22km^2$ in winter respectively and the largest seasonal home range was fall. Female and male annual home ranges of the gorals were $1.03km^2$ for female and $0.58km^2$ for male. In analysis of the monthly used altitudes which were used Jun, July, and August were higher than in the other months and the altitudes which were used in Dec, Jan, and Feb were lower than in the other months. This study was to secure basic data for the habitat management policy, restoration, and conservation of Korea gorals and to be conducted to contribute to the success in doing or planning stage of the wild animal restoration.

For transformation of Pleurotus ostreatus, two novel vectors, pPhKM1 and pPhKM2, were constructed, using the regulatory sequences of the P. sajor-caju $\beta$-tubulin gene(TUB1) and the ble gene encoding phleomycin binding protein. pPhKM1 contains ble fused to the TUB1 promoter and the Schizophyllum commune GPD terminator. pPhKM2 contains ble fused to the promoter and terminator regions of P. sajor-caju TUB1. To confirm phleomycin-resistance activity, each vector was cotrans-formed with pTRura3-2 into the P. ostreatus homokaryotic $ura^-$ strain. The transforming DNA was stably integrated into the genomic DNA. Subsequently, phleomycin resistance was conferred on wild-type dikaryotic P. ostreatus by transformation with pPhKM1 or pPhKM2. This transformation system generated stable phleomycin-resistant transformants.
