  • This paper proposes a new multispectral image data compression algorithm that can efficiently reduce spatial and spectral redundancies by applying classified prediction, a Karhunen-Loeve transform (KLT), and the three-dimensional set partitioning in hierarchical trees (3-D SPIHT) algorithm in the wavelet transform (WT) domain. The classification is performed in the WT domain to exploit the interband classified dependency, while the resulting class information is used for the interband prediction. The residual image data on the prediction errors between the original image data and the predicted image data is decorrelated by a KLT. Finally, the 3-D SPIHT algorithm is used to encode the transformed coefficients listed in a descending order spatially and spectrally as a result of the WT and KLT. Simulation results showed that the reconstructed images after using the proposed algorithm exhibited a better quality and higher compression ratio than those using conventional algorithms.

  • A real-time image georeferencing system requires all inputs to be determined in real-time. The intrinsic camera parameters can be identified in advance from a camera calibration process while other control information can be derived instantaneously from real-time GPS/INS data. The bottleneck process is tie point acquisition since manual operations will be definitely obstacles for real-time system while the existing extraction methods are not fast enough. In this paper, we present a fast-and-automated image matching technique based on the KLT tracker to obtain a set of tie-points in real-time. The proposed work accelerates the KLT tracker by supplying the initial guessed tie-points computed using the GPS/INS data. Originally, the KLT only works effectively when the displacement between tie-points is small. To drive an automated solution, this paper suggests an appropriate number of depth levels for multi-resolution tracking under large displacement using the knowledge of uncertainties the GPS/INS data measurements. The experimental results show that our suggested depth levels is promising and the proposed work can obtain tie-points faster than the ordinary KLT by 13% with no less accuracy. This promising result suggests that our proposed algorithm can be effectively integrated into the real-time image georeferencing for further developing a real-time surveillance application.

  • We propose an effective Landsat TM image compression method using the classified bidirectional prediction (CBP), the classified KLT and the SPIHT. The SPIHT is used to exploit the spatial redundancy of feature bands selected in the visible range and the infrared range separately. Regions of the prediction bands are classified into three classes in the wavelet domain, and then the CBP is performed to exploit the spectral redundancy. Residual bands that consist of difference values between the original band and the predicted band are decorrelated by the spectral KLT Finally, the three dimensional (3-D) SPIHT is used to encode the decorrelated coefficients. Experiment results show that the proposed method reconstructs higher quality Landsat TM image than conventional methods at the same bit rate.

  • In this study, a feature-points-tracking algorithm is suggested using a particle filter for vision based navigation system. By applying a dynamic model of the feature point, the tracking performance is increased in high dynamic condition, whereas a conventional KLT (Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi) cannot give a solution. Futhermore, the particle filter is introduced to cope with irregular characteristics of vision data. Post-processing of recorded vision data shows that the tracking performance of suggested algorithm is more robust than that of KLT in high dynamic condition.

  • This paper deals with a color-based tracking of a moving object. Firstly, existing Camshift algorithm is complemented to improve the tracking weakness in the brightness change of an image which occurs in every frame. The complemented Camshift still shows unstable tracking when the objects with same color of the tracking object exist in background. In order to overcome the drawback this paper proposes the Camshift combined with KLT algorithm based on optical flow. The KLT algorithm performing the pixel-based feature tracking can complement the shortcoming of Camshift. Experimental results show that the merged tracking method makes up for the drawback of the Camshit algorithm and also improves tracking performance.

  • In this paper, a new power spectral estimation technique is presented. At first, by transforming the original data with the Karhunen-Loeve Transform(KLT), we can reduce the amount of the redundant information. Next, by modeling the transformed data by means of the autoregressive(AR) model and then applying the least-squares parameter estimation algorithm to this model, even more accurate spectrum estimates can be obtained. The KLT is the optimum transform for signal representation with respect to the mean-square error criterion. And the least-squares method is used to overcome the inherent shortcomings of popular burg algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a KLT-CVQ scheme using PCNN to improbe the quality of the reconstructed images at a given bit rate. By using the PCNN and classified vector quantization, we exploit the high energy compaction and compelte decorrelation capbilities of the KLT, and the pdf (probability density function) shape and space-filling advantages of the vQ to improve the performance of the proposed hybrid coding technique. In order to preserve the preceptual fetures such as the edge components in the reconstructed images, we classified the input image blocks according to the texture energy measures of the local statistics and vector-coded them adaptively, and thereby reduces the possible edge degradation in the reconstructed images. The results of the computer simulations show that the performance of the proposed KLT-CVQ is higher than that of the KLT-CSQ or the DCT-CVQ in the quality of the reconstructed images at a given bit rate.

  • The goal of this study is to explore the possibility of KLT tracker for tracking the features between two images including rotation and shift. As a test site, Jangsu-Gun area of South Korea is selected and the images taken from UAV camera are used for analysis. The analysis was carried out using KLT tracker developed in a PC environment. The results of the experiment used two images with the large overlapping area are compared with the results of two images with the little overlapping area and rotation. Overall, the research indicates that the integrated features of littlerotation and motion images can significantly increase during the tracking process. But using KLT tracker for extracting and tracking features between images with large rotation and motion, the number of tracked features are decreased.

  • In autonomous navigation of a mobile vehicle or a mobile robot, localization calculated from recognizing its environment is most important factor. Generally, we can determine position and pose of a camera equipped mobile vehicle or mobile robot using INS and GPS but, in this case, we must use enough known ground landmark for accurate localization. hi contrast with homography method to calculate position and pose of a camera by only using the relation of two dimensional feature point between two frames, in this paper, we propose a method to calculate the position and the pose of a camera using relation between the location to predict through perspective transform of 3D feature points obtained by overlaying 3D model with previous frame using GPS and INS input and the location of corresponding feature point calculated using KLT tracking method in current frame. For the purpose of the performance evaluation, we use wireless-controlled vehicle mounted CCD camera, GPS and INS, and performed the test to calculate the location and the rotation angle of the camera with the video sequence stream obtained at 15Hz frame rate.
