Gels of rice starches isolated from jinmibyeo, llpoombyeo and Dongjinbyeo were prepared with $60{\sim}65%$ water content (based on the total weight) and stored at $-18^{\circ}C,\;4^{\circ}C,\;20^{\circ}C,\;30^{\circ}C,\;and\;37^{\circ}C$ for 6 days. The effects of varieties, water content and storage temperature on the degree of retrogradation (DR) of gels were measured by ${\alpha}$-amylase-iodine method. DRs of rice starch gels increased rapidly during the initial stage of storage, but slowly after that. DRs were highest with 60% water content and lowest with 65% water content at any storage temperature. Regarding the storage temperature, DRs of gels increased in the following order : $4^{\circ}C>20^{\circ}C>30^{\circ}C>37^{\circ}C>-18^{\circ}C>$. As the storage temperature was increased, DR per $10^{\circ}C$ increased above refrigerated temperature decreased in the following order : jinmibyeo>llpoombyeo>Dongjinbyeo.

We find the values of numerical invariants col(R) and row (R) for R=k[te, te+1, t(e-1)e-1] where k is a field and e$\geq$4. We also show that col(R) = crs (R) and row (R) = drs(R), but they are strictly less than the reduction number of R plus 1.

To reduce the injury by continuous cropping of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.), the farmer's plant and virus-free plant were cultivated with the density of $70{\times}25cm$ (June 10, 2011) in continuous cropping soil (CCS) and subsoiling reversion soil (SRS). Fertilizer was applied at the rates of 55-63-156 $kg\;ha^{-1}$ ($N-P_2O_5-K_2O$) and 10 $ton\;ha^{-1}$ of cattle manure in CCS, and it was applied the 50% increased cattle manure compost and nitrogen in DRS. Symptoms of viral infection were revealed in the farmer's plant at 30 days after planting, but there were no symptoms in virus-free plant. The yield of virus-free plant was more increased 15% and 10.5% than that of farmer's plant in DRS and CCS, respectively. The yield of sweetpotato in SRS was more increased 8.8% and 3.2% in farmer's plant and virus-free plant compared to CCS, respectively. In DRS, the rate of marketable tuber of virus-free plant was increased by 80% compared to the farmer's plant (60.1%). The virus-free plant was produced the tuber with more brilliant peel color and well-formed shape compared to the farmer's plant. The increased yield of virus-free plant and in SRS soil condition showed a positive relationship (p=0.05) with the number of leaf per plant at 30 days and the number of branch per plant at 120 days after planting. The results showed that the early growth after planting was very important for the development of storage root. Therefore, the deep-subsoil reversion and cultivation of virus-free plant could be reduced the injury by continuous cropping of sweet potato, and increased farm income.

In this paper, a series of PAC (polyaluminum chloride) samples were prepared for rosin neutral sizing system. Some characters of PAC were discussed in detail. The experimental results show that it is possible to achieve neutral sizing when PAC is compounded with DRS (dispersed rosin size) instead of alum (aluminum sulfate).

Objectives: The purpose of this case study is to describe the effect of Korean medicine on a patient with delirium caused by a left middle cerebral artery infarct. Methods: The patient was treated with Sopungbosimdodam-tang, acupuncture, and moxibustion. The Korean version of the Delirium Rating Scale (K-DRS), Neelon and Champagne (NEECHAM) Confusion Scale, and Korean Version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE-K) were used to evaluate the effect of the treatment. Results: After 50 days of treatment with Sopungbosimdodam-tang, the patient's K-DRS score decreased from 16 to 8. The NEECHAM Confusion Scale also improved from 17 to 23, and the MMSE-K score improved from 1 to 7. Conclusion: This clinical study suggested that Korean medicine could contribute greatly to the treatment of delirium caused by a left middle cerebral artery infarct.

Rare earth based calcium aluminate phosphor ($CaAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, $Nd^{3+}$) supported $TiO_2$ nanoparticles are synthesized by using sol-gel method, which are further characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), diffuse reflectance UV-Visible spectroscopy (DRS UV-Vis) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The XRD pattern of as-prepared and sintered phosphor supported $TiO_2$ does not show the tendency to change the crystal structure from anatase to rutile phase up to $600^{\circ}C$. This indicates that the phosphor support might inhibit the densification and crystallite growth by providing dissimilar boundaries. The diffuse reflectance spectral (DRS) measurements showed shift towards longer wavelength indicating reduction in the band-gap energy as compared to free $TiO_2$. The FT-IR spectra of phosphor supported $TiO_2$ nanoparticles show shift in the peak positions to lower wavelengths. This indicates that the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles are not free, but covalently bonded to the phosphor support. TEM micrographs show presence of crystalline and spherical $TiO_2$ nanoparticles (8 - 15 nm diameter) dispersed uniformly on the surface of phosphor.

Objectives : The significance of leukoaraiosis on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is uncertain, but it is often seen with vascular risk factors or in the context of cognitive impairment. We aimed to investigate the effect of leukoaraiosis on the severity and course of delirium. Methods : Periventricular hyperintensity and deep white matter hyperintensity on brain MRI were rated in 42 patients with delirium by semiquantative visual rating scale. Correlations between their grades and the scores of Korean version of Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98 (K-DRS-R-98) were analyzed, and the interaction effects between the groups according to the levels of leukoaraiosis and two evaluation points were also analyzed. Results : The grade of deep white matter hyperintensity in the occipital lobe was positively correlated with the scores on the total, severity items, cognitive items, and non-cognitive items of K-DRS-R-98. The cognitive items scores of K-DRS-R-98 in the low grade group of periventricular hyperintensity showed significantly steeper decrease than the high grade group. Conclusions : A difference in severity or recovery speed of delirium according to the level of leukoaraiosis may result from disruption in brain functional connectivity. Our results have a clinical implication in that the severity and course of delirium can be possibly predicted using the level of leukoaraiosis.

This study gives an account of the collateral standards in IEC 60601-1-3: 2008 specifying the general requirements for basic safety and essential performance of diagnostic X-ray equipment regarding radiation protection as it pertains to the production of X-rays. The collateral standards establish general requirements for safety regarding ionization radiation in diagnostic radiation systems and describe a verifiable evaluation method of suitable requirements regarding control over the lowest possible dose equivalent for patients, radiologic technologists, and others. The particular standards for each equipment can be determined by the general requirements in the collateral standard and the particular standard is followed in the risk management file. The guidelines for radiation safety of diagnostic radiation systems is written up in ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601-1-3(2002)1st edition, medical electric equipment part 1-3, and the general requirements for safety-collateral standards: programmable electrical medical systems. Therefore the diagnostic radiation system protects citizens' health rights with the establishment and revisions of laws and standards for diagnostic radiation systems as a background for the general requirements of radiation safe guards applies, as an international trend, standards regarding the medical radiation safety management. The diagnostic radiation system will also assure competitive power through a conforming evaluation unifying the differing standards, technical specifications, and recognized processes.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to describe the clinical aspects in dementia outpatients who visited oriental neuropsychiatry clinic and to analyze the efficacy of herbal medicine. Methods: We analysed medical records of dementia outpatients who visited oriental neuropsychiatry clinic of K medical center from August. 2000 to July, 2010 and matched our criteria. Results: Ninety-two subjects were selected for analysis and consisted of 77.3% dementia of Alzheimer type. 13.0% vascular dementia. and 9.8% mixed type of dementia. Herbal medicine prescribed mainly were Jowjseungchung-tang(Tiaowejshengqing-tang). Kunneo-tang(Jjannao-tang) and Chenwangbosim-dan(Tianwangbuxin-dan) for dementia of Alzheimer type, and Sunghyangjungki-san(Xjngxjangzhengqi-san) and Upung-dan (Yufeng-dan) for vascular dementia. Scores of K-DRS were not changed for some subs cales and decreased but less than natural decline of Alzheimer disease. Score on the Memory subscale in group of Kunneo-tang(Jjannao-tang) increased significantly. Conclusions : These results suggest that the herbal medicine may be effective for dementia. More prospective studies are needed to assess the efficacy and prognosis of herbal medicine for dementia. Clinical guideline is needed for systematic data accumulation.
