  • In this paper, studied condenser operating management which is affecting power plants efficiency considering the cost of poor quality. Sea water temperature and condenser pressure have clear correlation in S power plants. As the sea water temperature changes, condenser pressure changed -1.7~+20 mmHg from design condenser pressure(38.1 mmHg). Use the heat rate correction curve from manufactory company, realized that efficiency and cost of poor quality changed 0.0201%, 12,830 won/h at Unit #1,2 but 0.0155%, 9,832 won/h when condenser pressure 1 mmHg rise. Also, checked that it is changed depend on seasonal corresponding operation, plant ageing and the point of preventive maintenance like overhaul maintenance. This study said if we considered complying with management range and planning overhaul maintenance, then it could help reducing operating maintenance losses minimum 2.5 billion won per 1 year (case : Unit #1, forty days maintenance).

  • Train radio system has been constructed in the second stage of Kyung-bu high speed railway adopting TETRA(Terrestial trunk radio) standard at 851MHz frequency band. The base stations of the train radio system should be located along railway track to ensure seamless communication between train and wayside taking the path loss of train radio propagation into consideration. This paper provides a quantitative analysis of the path loss characteristics based on the measurement results of the train radio propagation along the high speed railway. The free space propagation model and Okumura-Hata model are generally used for base station design, but they predicted 10dB lower or 20dB higher than the measured path loss. Linear regression of the field measured data by applying the log-distance model shows path loss exponent is in the 2.8-3.2 range, which can be used to predict the path loss of the train radio propagation.

  • It was described the measured friction loss depending on pressure used and changes in water flow rates for a fire hose used at a fire scene on this study. As a result of actual measurement based on the result obtained by analyzing the use situation of a fire hose such as the kind, quantity, pressure used, etc. of a fire hose, the friction loss in a fire hose under the condition of using by a fire officer at a fire scene was measured as up to 56.8 %. This is much different from the equivalent length of a fire hose used to calculate the pump head in an indoor and outdoor fire-fighting facility. There is no related restrictive regulation on friction loss, there are even no data on friction loss measured by fire hose makers, and spreading a fire hose without considering friction loss at a fire scene can result in an increased length of hose used and a high-pressure water discharge from a fire engine, so this study aims to establish a standard for an equivalent length to friction loss in a fire hose and to propose a spreading method considering friction loss in a fire hose at a fire scene.

  • In general, XP-SWMM regards manholes as nodes, so it can not consider local head loss in surcharged manhole depending on shape and size of the manhole. That might be a reason why XP-SWMM underestimates inundated-area compared with reality. Therefore, it is necessary to study how we put the local head loss in surcharged manhole in order to simulate storm drain system with XP-SWMM. In this study, average head loss coefficients at circular and square manhole were estimated as 0.61 and 0.68 respectively through hydraulic experiments with various discharges. The estimated average head loss coefficients were put into XP-SWMM as inflow and outflow energy loss of nodes to simulate inundation area of Gunja basin. Simulated results show that not only overflow discharge amount but inundated-area increased considering the head loss coefficients. Also, inundation area with considering head loss coefficients was matched as much as 58% on real inundation area. That was more than simulated results without considering head loss coefficients as much as 18 %. Considering energy loss in surcharged manholes increases an accuracy of simulation. Therefore, the averaged head loss coefficients of this study could be used to simulate storm drain system. It was expected that the study results will be utilized as basic data for establishing the identification of the inundation risk area.

  • This paper proposes a lossless image compression method based on arithmetic coding using block-adaptive Context Tree Weighting. The CTW method predicts and compresses the input data bit by bit. Also, it can achieve a desirable coding distribution for tree sources with an unknown model and unknown parameters. This paper suggests the method to enhance the compression rate about image data, especially aerial and satellite images that require lossless compression. The value of aerial and satellite images is significant. Also, the size of their images is huger than common images. But, existed methods have difficulties to compress these data. For these reasons, this paper shows the experiment to prove a higher compression rate when using the CTW method with divided images than when using the same method with non-divided images. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method is more effective when compressing the divided images.

  • In this study, we formulate an acoustical topology optimization problem to optimally design a partition layout inside the expansion chamber of a muffler. The lower-limit insertion loss value at a target frequency is constrained, and the partition volume is selected as an object function. In this study, we calculate the insertion loss outside the duct, while to determine the noise-attenuation performance, we use the insertion loss value calculated inside the duct or transmission loss value obtained in a previous study. We employ the finite-element model for acoustical analysis, and we determine the transmission of an incident acoustic wave through each finite element using the functions of design variables that change continuously between "0" and "1." The rigid body elements, which totally reflect incident waves, build up partitions. Finally, we compare optimal topologies that depend on the target frequency and the allowed lower-limit value of insertion loss.

  • Three-dimensional flow and aerodynamic loss in the tip-leakage flow region of a turbine blade equipped with both a pressure-side winglet and a suction-side squealer have been measured for the tip gap-to-span ratio of h/s = 1.36%. The suction-side squealer has a fixed height-to-span ratio of $h_s/s$ = 3.75% and the pressure-side winglet has width-to-pitch ratios of w/p = 2.64%, 5.28%, 7.92% and 10.55%. The results are compared with those for a plane tip and for a cavity squealer tip of $h_{ps}/s$ = 3.75%. The present tip delivers lower loss in the passage vortex region but higher loss in the tip-leakage vortex region, compared to the plane tip. With increasing w/p, its mass-averaged loss tends to be reduced. Regardless of w/p, the present tip provides lower loss than the plane tip but higher loss than the cavity squealer tip.

  • Streaming video is expected to become a key service in the developing heterogeneous wireless network. However, sufficient quality of service is not offered to video applications because of bursty packet losses. An effective solution for packet loss in wireless network is to perform a proper concealment at the receiver. However, most concealment methods can not conceal effectively the consecutively damaged macro blocks, since the neighboring blocks are lost. In the previous work, bidirectional motion vector tracking (BMVT) method has been proposed which uses the moving trajectory feature of the damaged macro blocks. In this paper, a channel-adaptive redundancy coding method for the better BMVT error concealment is presented. The proposed method provides enhanced video quality at the cost of a little bit overhead in the wireless error-prone network.

  • In this study, $Co^{60}$ gamma-ray induced loss on Ge-doped single mode (SM) fiber has been measured. Gamma-ray is irradiated for 4 hours at the dose rate of 0.5 kGy/hr, 2 kGy/hr, 8 kGy/hr. Consequently, gamma-ray induced loss based on radiation effects in Ge-doped SM fiber occur significantly. Furthermore, dose rate effect was observed, that dose rate using the same total dose increased higher, then optical fiber loss increased more. Also annealing effect was observed, that the loss after irradiation, increased higher, then the recovery rate of loss was increased. This results are foreseen to be base data in the future radiation-hardened optical fiber study.

  • The present study has been carried out to reduce the heat loss from a refrigerator by changing thermal conductivity and partial removal of rubber magnet near refirgerator gasket. To perform this purpose, two dimensional heat transfer analysis for the horizontal cross sectional plane of a refrigerator has been accomplished. From the present study, it could be seen that the heat loss could be reduced nearly 7% by changing thermal conductivity of rubber magnet from 10W/mK to 1W/mK. The heat loss reduction, 17%, could be achieved by removal of rubber magnet near hotline and the effect on the heat loss reduction by partial removal of rubber magnet might be helpful for the refrigerator power consumption.
