A small sized device with computing, communicating, sensing capability is changing our life. It will be deployed in the world and acquire a lot of data from the world. It is used for various applications such as military surveillance, environmental monitoring, structure health monitoring, building management, asset tracking, etc. In this paper we focus on USN middleware for asset tracking. A mobile asset is moving here and there within a specific area. The USN middleware tracks the mobile assets in real-time by using sensor nodes and notify their current positions to a user. To achieve the goal, the USN middleware provides some features related to the positions of mobile assets.. They are storing location data by using 3D indexing method, retrieving them by using spatio-temporal query, making trace of an asset, and retrieving the history data of an asset. In the paper, we developed USN middleware to adapt the requirements of asset tracking. It can help users increase the efficiency of their business related to mobile assets and make a valuable decision.

The amount of heat loss of a refrigerator through the gasket is nearly 30% of total refrigerator heat loss. In this paper, quantitative evaluation analysis of heat loss through gasket is established with numerical heat transfer analysis. Extending the gasket shape to protect the heat loss from the gasket, power consumption is measured by using real refrigerator in a temperature and humidity chamber and suggest the gasket shape to reduce the heat loss. From the present result of the numerical simulation of heat transfer and experiment with varying gasket shape, we are able to reduce the heat loss about 20-40% by using extended gasket and the power consumption can be reduced about 5%.

Advanced controllers among Flexible AC Transmission System(FACTS) devices employ self-commutated switching converters, VSI (Voltage Sourced Inverters), as the synchronous voltage source. Such controllers are SSSC (Static Synchronous Series Compensator), STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) and UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller). UPFC is series-shunt combined controller. Its series and shunt inverters can be modeled as SSSC and STATCOM but the dependant relation between the inverters is very complex. For that reason, the complexity makes it difficult to develop the UPFC model by simply combining the SSSC and STATOM models when we apply the model for conventional power system dynamic simulation algorithm. Therefore, we need each relevant models of VSI type FACTS devices for power system analysis. This paper proposes a modeling approach which can be applied to modeling of VSI type FACTS devices. The proposed method using Newton-type current injection method can be used to make UPFC, SSSC, and STATCOM models. The proposed models are used for 2-area test system simulation, and the results verify their effectiveness.

The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal sound absorption conditions by comparing the sound absorption characteristics of fresh and air-dried leaves of Quercus glauca, the main species of evergreen broadleaf trees (EBLT) in southern Korea. The sound absorption coefficients (SACs) obtained under 18 conditions were comparatively analyzed. The SAC of air-dried leaves improved significantly with increasing leaf layer thickness. The highest average SAC in the fresh leaf group was 0.617, which was observed under the condition of a leaf specimen size of 0.5 × 0.5 cm² and a leaf layer thickness of 1.75 cm. In a group of air-dried leaves, this was 0.615 under the condition of a leaf specimen size of 0.5 × 0.5 cm² and a leaf layer thickness of 2.50 cm. The maximum value of SAC for each wavelength was observed under the condition of a leaf layer thickness of 2.50 cm consisting of 0.5 × 0.5 cm² leaf specimens, ranging from 1,400 Hz to 1,500 Hz.

Minimally invasive treatment of symptomatic thyroid nodules is now commonplace. Ethanol ablation (EA) of thyroid cystic nodules has been performed since the 1990s, but there is no global consensus or guideline. Although various limitations of EA have been described, recommendations for practical application are necessary. Therefore, the Task Force Committee of the Korean Society of Thyroid Radiology initiated the present consensus statement and here we provide recommendations for the role of EA in the management of symptomatic thyroid nodules. These recommendations are based on evidence to date from the literature and expert opinion.

It was found that Shinorhizobium meliloti hemoprotein (SM) was more effective than Vitreoscilla hemoglobin (Vhb) in promoting secondary metabolites production when overexpressed in Streptomyces lividans TK24. The transformant with sm (sm-transformant) produced 2.7-times and 3-times larger amounts of actinorhodin than the vhb-transformant in solid culture and flask culture, respectively. In both solid and flask cultures, a larger amount of undecylprodigiocin was produced by the sm-transformant. It is considered that the overexpression of SM especially has activated the pentose phosphate pathway through oxidative stress, as evidenced by an increased NADPH production observed, and that it has promoted secondary metabolites biosynthesis.

According to the improvement of the HTS wires performance, several types of HTS superconducting machines, such as, transformer, motors, current limiters, and transmission cables are being developed. Degradation of the critical current in HTS tape owing to external field is very important subject in developing the HTS machines. Considering that stacked HTS tapes are widely used to develop the large HTS machines, the critical current characteristics of stacked HTS tapes in external field need to be examined. In this paper, we present critical current characteristics of 4-stacked HTS tapes which are exposed to the external field. HTS tape with critical current of 4-stacked HTS tape. Test results prove that four times critical current of single HTS tape is smaller than critical current of stacked HTS tape in high external field.

본 논문에서는 패러데이 효과(Faraday effect)를 이용하여 초고압 전력설비에서 대전류 측정을 위한 광CT의 온도변화에 따른 특성에 대한 기초 연구를 하였다. 광원으로는 1310[nm] Laser Diode를 사용하고 수신부로는 PIN-Photodiode를 사용하였다. 실험을 위한 온도변환장치는 GIS와 같은 모양으로 재철은 알루미늄으로서 제작하였다. 광의 전송로는 파이버 내에서 편광상태를 유지할 수 있는 30[m]의 싱글모드 언재킷(unjacked) 파이버를 사용하였다. 전류의 측정은 400[A]에서 1300[A] 까지의 범위에서 측정하였으며 온도는 -40[$^{\circ}$]에서 50[$^{\circ}$]까지 10[$^{\circ}$]씩 증가시키면서 측정하였다. 이 때 출력선호는 인가전류의 중가에 따라 비례하여 증가하였으며 주변온도가 높을수록 비례하여 증가하였다.

본 논문에서는 ATM망에서 IP멀티캐스트를 지원하기 위한 방법을 소개하고. 이를 바탕으로 좀더 효율적으로 IP 멀티캐스트를 지원하기 위한 방법을 제안하였다. Intra-cluster 멀티캐스트에 기반을 둔 MARS 모델은 IP멀티캐스트를 효율적으로 지원하지 못하며, 전체 망을 하나의 서버로 관리하는 EARTH 모델은 모든 처리가 서버로 집중되어 확장성 및 관리에 어려움이 있다. 본 논문은 효율적인 데이터 전송이 가능하면서 동시에 확장이 용이하도록 MARS 프로토콜을 확장하였다.

Simple ganglions are most common benign tumor of the hand and wrist. However, cystic adventitial disease is an uncommon vascular anomaly first described in 1947 in the external iliac artery. It usually involves the popliteal artery, although other arteries and veins may also be involved. Radial artery adventitial cysts are found directly within the adventitia, whereas the more common wrist ganglions may extrinsically compress or adhere to the artery walls. The diagnosis is rarely made before surgery because of their similar appearance and location. The authors report a rare case of a 46-year old woman with mucoid adventitial cyst of the radial artery in the wrist.
