  • Purpose: The study explored the meaning of experiences within a family art therapy process among terminal cancer patients and their families. Methods: Ten participants, including four terminal cancer patients currently admitted to the hospice ward at an inpatient hospice facility in S City and four caregiving family members, engaged in four cycles of family art therapy sessions. The sessions were conducted weekly or bi-weekly, and each lasted approximately 50 minutes. Results: Nine cross-case themes emerged: "feeling unfamiliar and intimidated by the idea of expressing my thoughts through art," "trying to accept the present and positively overcome sadness," "expressing hope through emotional bonds during the process of parting," "conveying and preserving personal and family beliefs," "feeling upset about family imbalances caused by deteriorating health," "valuing togetherness and striving for stability amidst the current challenges," "art as a medium of empowerment for patients and facilitator of family conversations, even amidst difficulties," "sharing a range of emotions-not just joy, but concerns and sorrow-through art," and "gratitude for art' s role in improving family communication and connection through artwork. Conclusion: The findings of this study lead to several conclusions. First, patients and their families faced psychological challenges when confronted with impending death, yet they strove to remain optimistic by seeking meaning in their struggles. Second, families practiced open and expressive communication, sharing a spectrum of complex emotions with one another. Third, even as the patient's condition worsened, resulting in family fatigue, their support and cohesion strengthened.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between counseling skills and Sasang constitutional medicine(SCM). Methods Reviewing the texts relevant to SCM, comparison between counseling skills and the excerpt from the relating books was conducted in terms of the attitude of the counselor, the observation method, the evaluation of the counselee, the relationship between the counselor and counselee, and the counseling method. Results As the attitude of the counselor, many kinds of attitudes and skills including respecting the counselee and reciprocal belief were needed. The excerpt from "Gyeokchigo" meant that the counselor or a doctor should have the virtue of Truth. To evaluate the patient's problems in SCM and the counseling, diet, digestion, and sleep could be asked, but questions about the emotions such as Joy, Anger, Sorrow and Pleasure should be more carefully modified in a modern way, when applying clinical practices. Empathy as the main principle of the counseling could be attributed to the main idea of Dongmu Lee Jema, in which all the people could be in the same status in a natural way reflecting that they like the virtue and dislike the evil. Recommendations of regimen and directives could be followed according to SCM Conclusions Several items of counseling skills and SCM coincide but some of the modern counseling skills are still needed to apply SCM to make the patients with psychiatric problems treated efficiently.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the health and well-being of singing, an expression activity of language. There are also many studies in which singing activities have a positive effect on individual quality of life and social activities. Therefore, this study attempted to suggest that more effective singing is being performed by increasing empathy through various expressions of onomatopoeia and mimic words. Love Changbu Taryeong (愛倡夫打令) is Korea's traditional representative Gyeonggi folk song. It is a cheerful and lyrical folk song based on the five scale of Sol-ra-do-re-mi. It sings not only human joy, sorrow, and pleasure, but also natural phenomena and scenes. It is an exciting rhythm based mainly on the Gutgeori jangdan (rhythmic pattern, 12/8) but it is a rhythm that you can feel the sadness in it. In particular, various onomatopoeia and mimic words appear in this song, making you think about the fun of singing and the origin of the language. Therefore, this study attempted to examine that more effective singing is becoming more effective by increasing empathy through various expressions of onomatopoeia and mimic words.
