Methods: Key words "Jahageo Yakchim", "Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture", "Human Placenta Pharmacopuncture", "Hominis Placenta Pharmacoacupuncutre" were searched on 6 database systems (DBpia, KISS, KTKP, NDSL, Pubmed, CENTRAL) on August 31th 2018. Results: 1 case reports and 4 controlled studies were collected in accordance with the selection and exclusion criteria. The study design, study results and method of intervention were analyzed. • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of case reports published in the Journal of Korean Obstetrics and Gynecology from April 2019 to February 2024, compared with January 2015 to March 2019. Methods: Case reports were selected by searching from archive on the website of society of the Journal of Korean Obstetrics and Gynecology. The quality of the case reports were assessed based on CAse REport (CARE) guideline. Results: A total of 30 case reports was finally included for the assessment. Overall quality of reporting for case reports published from April 2019 to February 2024 was improved compared to one of previous study. However, the 4 items of CARE guidelines with an unreported rate of 50% or more - patient's perspective on interventions (96.67%), diagnostic challenges (93.33%), intervention adherence and tolerability (93.33%), adverse events (56.67%) - are items that require active description in future case reports. In addition, Keyword and timeline have more than 50% reported to be 'Not-sufficient' in both previous and present studies. So active efforts by researchers are needed to include 'Case report (or Case study)' in keywords, and to include intervention by period, symptom changes in a timeline. Conclusions: Despite the overall improvement in the quality of reporting in the Journal of Korean Obstetrics and Gynecology, efforts to improve the quality of case reports should be continued.

  • Distal limb deformities are congenital malformations with phenotypic variability and high genetic heterogeneity. Split hand/foot malformation, also known as ectrodactyly, is a congenital limb malformation characterized by a defect of the central rays of the hands and/or feet. Split hand/foot malformation with long-bone deficiency (SHFLD) is a rare condition related to a 17p13.3 duplication. Recently, genomic duplications encompassing BHLHA9 have been associated with SHFLD. We report a case of SHFLD presenting with campomelia of the right femur, bilateral agenesis of fibulae, bilateral club feet, and oligosyndactyly of the hands and feet, that was associated with a 17p13.3 duplication, as determined prenatally using array comparative genomic hybridization.

  • Objective Isotretinoin is a notorious teratogen otherwise used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Some countries, including those in North America and the European Union, implemented the pregnancy prevention program (PPP); however, no PPP has yet been established in South Korea. So the aim of this study was to evaluate the rate of pregnant women exposed to isotretinoin among the callers of the Korean Mother Safe Counseling Center. Methods This is a prospective cohort study. We evaluated the demographic characteristics, obstetric history, and isotretinoin exposure of pregnant women based on the mother safe registry from April 2010 to July 2016. Results Among 22,374 callers, 650 (2.9%) pregnant women were exposed to isotretinoin. The mean age was $29.0{\pm}4.4$ years in the isotretinoin-exposed group and $32.0{\pm}4.2$ years in the unexposed group (P<0.001). Moreover, the incidence of pregnancies within 30 days after isotretinoin discontinuation or during isotretinoin intake was 78.9% (513/650). The median duration of isotretinoin exposure was 18 (1-4,231) days. Furthermore, from 2011 to 2015, the incidence of isotretinoin exposure was $2.9{\pm}1.2$ pregnancies per 10,000 births in South Korea. Conclusion Approximately 80% of pregnant women are exposed to isotretinoin within the recommended 30 days of contraception or during pregnancy. Therefore, the PPP has to be established in South Korea.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the clinical application of traditional korean medicine(TKM) treatment to hyeolheopungyeol type of dermatoses gravidarum. Methods: We experienced four patients who had been suffering from itching, plaque, erythema during pregnancy. They had already been treated with antihistamine or ointment, but they were not improved. We diagnosed their case as hyeolheopungyeol type of dermatoses gravidarum, and treated with sopungsan-gaml. Results: After TKM treatment, itching, plaque and erythema were alleviated or resolved. And they gave birth to a healthy baby. Conclusion: The results indicate that TKM, sopungsan-gami can be effective for the management of hyeolheopungyeol type of dermatoses gravidarum.
