Project cost is an important concern in any construction project. Although there has been a lot of studies on factors affecting the cost of construction projects, there seems no consensus as what cost factors have direct influence on the cost of civil engineering projects. This study therefore aims to bridge the current knowledge gap by examining quantity surveyors' perception of the factor structure among nineteen costing attributes identified based on literature review. Questionnaire was used to elicit responses from quantity surveyors working in the Hong Kong construction industry. Principal component analysis is conducted to extract the factor structure of the cost attributes and the attributes are grouped into three factor components, namely the contract management factor, the project management factor and the monetary value factor. Understanding these cost impact factors could be crucial in managing civil engineering projects, since it allows the project stakeholders and quantity surveyors to take precautionary steps to identify the cost management problems and areas for improvement and could even help to avoid cost deviations in engineering projects.
The purpose of this study is to understand an appreciation and a perceptive structure of "keijeok" image by Semantic Differential Technique and Factor Analysis. The data used in this study was obtained by the questionnaire survey carried out in Pusan metropolitan city. 15 adjective pairs in the survey were evaluated by the Semantic Differential scales graded 7 ranges from 1(very good) to 7(very bad). A total of 452 samples were collected by the survey and analyzed for this study. The results are as follows; First, 15 variables comprehended to "keijeok" image were estimated as a positive conception(LT 4.0). What's more, residents may perceive "keijeok" image as intangible and aesthetic aspect such as "fresh", "pleasant", "clean". Second, the result of factor analysis shows that factor I which express the major conceptual meaning of "keijeok" image tends to have intangible or aesthetic adjective pairs rather than concrete, whereas factor II which has the weaker meaning compared with factor I may represent a functional aspect of "keijeok" image. It can explain that the perceptive structure of "keijeok" image may be largely influenced by subjective sense, then added or concreted with objective conception or environmental situation. The results can be considered as an important matter which should be reflected at the stage of environmental planning for people's amiable and desirable place.

At the center of the repeating evolution of IT industry, there is mobile computing in the ubiquitous environment, and the increasing usage of smart phones contribute more to its growth. P corporation co-developed with Google and implemented smart work system called SWP for the purpose of 'communication and collaboration with co-workers' beyond the general goal of increasing productivity and comfort of employees. The primary objective of this study is to objectively analyze the influence of the effect factor from end user's perspective and user satisfaction on SWP usage, intention for continuous usage and individual performance. To accomplish this research purpose, this study established research models and hypothesis by collective review about information system success models, and tested the research hypotheses using the structural equation modeling technique by data collected from 320 SWP system users of P corporation. Variations for system satisfaction evaluation standard are 1)SW system usage 2) intention for continuous usage 3) individual performance, effect variations are 1) social factors 2) technical factors 3) combination of social and technical factors. Therefore, this study is about influence factors on success of SWP system and how the factors impact the outcome. The test results of this research model is summarized as follows. Firstly, system user's satisfaction had positive impact on all three; SWP system usage, intention for continuous usage and individual performance. Secondly, social factor 'SWP control system' and technical factor 'information quality' and 'system quality' had positive impact on SWP system user satisfaction, while social factor 'shared value' and technical factor 'service quality' did not have significant effect on user satisfaction. Shared value however, had interactive effect with 'information quality' and 'service quality'. This study is expected to contribute to spread of academic research on smart work system by suggesting a model that can show important factors for corporation while explaining the successful implementation of SWP and its continuous usage.
The purpose of this study was to examine what factors determined the image of dental hygienists. The subjects in this study were 396 patients and caregivers who visited 14 dental institutes in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. After a survey was conducted, the following findings were given: 1. As for what factors had a decisive impact on the image of dental hygienists, friendliness(4.53) ranked first. 2. The image of dental hygienists was decided by five different kinds of factors, which included institutional, subjective, work-related, formal and media factors. Those factors made a 57.827% prediction of the image of dental hygienists. 3. The relationship of their general characteristics to the decisive factors of dental hygienist image was as follows: 1) By age(pE0.01), marital status(pE0.01), education(pE0.01), occupation(pE0.001), were under the significantly different influence of the formal factor(pE0.01). 2) As to the type of dental institutes they visited, the subjective factor exercised a significantly different influence on the groups(pE0.01). 3) Regarding the frequency of visiting dental institutes, the institutional and work-related factors had a significantly different impact on the groups(pE0.05). 4) Concerning the experience of the caregivers, the work-related factor exercised a significantly different influence on the groups(pE0.05). 5) As to connections between their general characteristics and the decisive factors of dental hygienist image in different areas, the subjective factor mostly had the strongest impact, and the formal factor was least influential.

It is a daunting task to theorize the process effectiveness of IT convergence based service model. Despite the criticalness of investigating process enhancement impact of IT-convergence based service model, the theoretical research in this field is relatively scarce, possibly due to the too wide and comprehensiveness of research scope. In this vein, we conducted exploratory study to understand the contributional impact of IT convergence based service model on resolving service process limitations. We first identified five IT convergence based service models in the area of typical service industry, which include entertainment, learning, location based services, tourism, and healthcare. Our research model classified value creation factors of the IT convergence model in twofold. The one is defined as basic value creation factor of the IT convergence, which is treated as the second-order factor that consists of two first-order factors of mobile functionality and Internet with digital contents merging functionality. The other is defined as service process limitations resolving factor which are comprised with the two first-order factors of simultaneousity and perishability. Both the second-order factors are modeled, each respectively, with the two first-order factors in formative manner. Using PLS, empirical validation is executed to analyze each value creating factor's contribution impact on the relative advantage, as well as the mediating effect of basic value creation factor on resolving service process limitations. On the basis of the insights revealed from this paper, further theory building research could be elaborated in the area of IT convergence applications for service industry.

In this study, the variation of track impact factor according to the spring stiffness change rate of sleeper resilience pad was analyzed based on field measurements. In addition, the correlation between field measurement results and 7 million fatigue test results was verified. The fatigue effect diagram of the sleeper resilience pads was presented considering the nonlinear deterioration characteristics of the sleeper resilience pads used for the STEDEF track. Based on the field measurement results, the nonlinear characteristics of the track impact factor for the spring stiffness change rate over 30% of sleeper resilience pad on the track impact factor-track support stiffness diagram were analyzed to be consistent with the fatigue test results.

This study is to make LCIA(Life Cycle Impact Assessment) easier as a methodology of environmental scores(called E-score) that integrated environmental load of each emission substance based on environmental damage such as in human health, ecosystem and resources category. The concept is to analyzes the LCI(Life Cycle Inventory) and defines the level of environment damages for human health, ecosystem and resources to objective impact assessment standard, and makes the base of marginal damage to calculate the damage factor, which can present the indication that can establish the standard value of environmental impact. First, damages to human health are calculated by fate analysis, effect analysis and damage analysis to get the damage factor of health effect as a DALY(Disability Adjusted Life Years) unit. Second, damages to ecosystem are calculated by fate analysis, effect analysis and damage analysis to get the damage factor of the effect as a PDF(Potentially Disappeared Fraction) unit through linking potentially increased disappeared fraction. Third, damages to resources are carried out by resource analysis and damage analysis for linking the lower fate to surplus energy conception to get damage factor as a MJ(Mega Joule) unit. For the ranking of relative environment load level each other, LCIA can be carried out effectively by applying this E-score methodology to the particular emission substances. A case study has been introduced for the emission substances coming out of a tire manufacturer in Korea. It is to show how to work the methodology. Based on such study result, product-designers or producers now can apply the E-scores presented in this study to the substances of emission list, and then calculate the environment load of the product or process in advance at any time and can see the environment performance comparatively and expected to contribute to the environmental improvement in view of environmental pollution prevention.

The response of a bridge can be influenced by span length, bridge's surface condition, vehicle's weight, and vehicle's velocity. It is difficult to predict accurate behavior of a bridge. In the current standard of specifications, such dynamic effect is defined by impact factor and prescribed to consider live load as to increase design load by means of multiplying this value by live load. However, it is not well understood because the Impact factor method differs from every country. Dynamic, static and pseudo-staitic field loading tests on PSC-I girder bridges were carried out to find out the dynamic property of the bridge. This paper is aimed to figure out actual dynamic property of the bridge by using field loading test. An empirical method based on impact factor is widely used and also argued. Displacement and strain response measured from the tests was compared with one from the empirical method. The former seems to be reasonable since it can consider actual response of a bridge through field tests.
To analyze the impulsive response of a motorcycle helmet, a simulation is performed using the finite element method. Based upon the simulation result, an equivalent one degree of freedom vibrational system is adapted, and transient impulsive responses are analysed to investigate the influence of engineering parameters such as damping, natural frequency, and impact velocity on the impulsive response of the helmet. Maximum gravitational acceleration reduces as the damping factor value increases. When the damping factor value is around 0.6 or larger, the maximum acceleration does not change. With respect to the natural frequency and the impact velocity, it increases linearly. The relationship between head injury criterion(HIC) and maximum gravitational acceleration is also presented. The scheme of this study is expected to be utilized to economize the design process of high quality motorcycle helmets.
Among several non-destructive testing methods, ultrasonic pulse velocity method and rebound index method have been widely used for the evaluation of concrete strength. However, such methods might not provide accurate estimated results since factors influencing the relationship between strength and either ultrasonic pulse velocity or rebound index are not considered. In this paper, the evaluation method of concrete strength using rod-wave velocity measured by impact-resonance method is proposed. A basic equation is obtained by the linear regression of velocity vs, strength data at specific age and then, aging factor is employed in the equation to consider the difference of the increasing rate between wave velocity and strength. Strengths predicted by the proposed equation agree well with test results. Furthermore, the combined method of rod-wave velocity and rebound index is proposed.
