A class of robust control for flexible joint manipulators with nonlinearity mismatched uncertainty is designed based on Lyapunov approach. The uncertainties are unknown but their values are within certain prescribed sets. No statistic information of the uncertainties is imposed. The control which utilizes state transformation via virtual control is proposed. The resulting robust control guarantees practical stability for the transformed system and later the stability for the original system is proved. The designed robust control is implemented by experiments in a 2-link flexible joint manipulator.
In this study, we have developed the humanoid joint modules which provide a variety of service while living with people in the future home life. The most important requirement is ensuring the safety for humans of the robot system for collaboration with people and providing physical service in dynamic changing environment. Therefore we should construct the mechanism and control system that each joint of the robot should response sensitively and rapidly to fulfill that. In this study, we have analyzed the characteristic of the joint which based on the target constituting the humanoid motion, developed the optimal actuator system which can be controlled based on each joint characteristic, and developed the control system which can control an multi-joint system at a high speed. In particular, in the design of the joint, we have defined back-drivability at the safety perspective and developed an actuator unit to maximize. Therefore we establish a foundation element technology for future commercialization of intelligent service robots.

This paper suggests the new type of a joint torque sensor which is attached at each joint of a manipulator for making compliance. Previous six axis force/torque sensors are high cost and installed end-effector of the manipulator. However, torque on links of previous an end-effector cannot be measured. We design a joint torque sensor that can be fully integrated with an actuator in order to measure applying torque of the manipulator. The sensor system is designed through the structural analysis. The proposed joint torque sensors are installed to the 6 DOF manipulator of a mobile robot for hazardous works and we implemented experiments of measuring applied torque to the manipulator. By the experiment, we proved that the proposed low-cost joint torque sensor gives acceptable performance when we control a manipulator.

The purpose of this paper is to verify the practical effectiveness of an interphalangeal coordination-based joint motion planning method for humanoid finger operations. For the purpose, several experiments have been performed and comparative experimental results are shown. Through the experimental works, it is confirmed that according to the employed joint motion planning method, the joint configurations for a finger's trajectory can be planned stably or not, and consequently the actual joint torque command for controlling the finger can be made moderately or not. Finally, this paper analyzes that the interphalangeal coordination-based joint motion planning method is practically useful for implementing a stable finger manipulation. It is remarkably noted that the torque pattern by the method is well-balanced. Therefore, it is expected that the control performance of humanoid or prosthetic fingers can be enhanced by the method.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how induced fatigue of the ankle joint muscles affects the capability and recovery of postural control during single-leg stance in healthy adults. The study population included 22 randomly recruited men and women. Postural control was performed on single-leg stance with eyes open. Ankle joint muscle was fatigued by repeated heel raises. According to the results of this study, for the anteroposterior variables, both men and women showed significantly increased center of mass velocity and decreased center of pressure 95% edge frequency immediately after fatigue. For the mediolateral variables, both men and women showed significantly increased center of mass velocity and decreased center of pressure 95% edge frequency immediately after fatigue. For the total variables, both men and women showed significantly increased center of mass averaged-velocity immediately after fatigue, and also, the center of pressure 95% confidence ellipse area significantly increased in women. Postural control variables were not significantly different for men and women at any time (Pre, P0, P10, and P20). In conclusion, the gender does not affect the capability and recovery after induced fatigue of ankle joint muscles. The effect of fatigue found for the anteroposterior and the mediolateral variables in both men and women. Furthermore ankle joint muscle fatigue led to change of postural control strategy from an ankle joint strategy towards a hip joint strategy. These changes are believed to damage postural control. The ankle joint muscle recovered from fatigue within 20 min during single-leg stance.
In this paper, attempts have been made to control AC synchronous servo motor used as actuators of joints of the FARA robot with high dynamic performance and precise positioning. The AC synchronous servo motors used in FARA robots have resolves as position sensors. Resolver to digital converters are used in order to obtain the information of rotor speed and position from resolver outputs. The proposed joint position control system consists of four speed controller and one position controller. Analog methods are used in the position controller, while digital methods are used in the position controller. For precise position control, PID control algorithm and interpolation functions are executed in two 16 bit microprocessors with sampling rate 2ms. Experimental results show that the proposed joint position control system can be effectively applied to industrial robots in order to obtain high dynamic performance and precise positioning. The proposed joint position control system is being used in the control of FARA robots of Samsung Electronics.

The purpose of this study was to examine patterns ofmoney management and control of family finances. The data for this study were collected from 311 wives who were currently employed in professional, managerial, and clerical occupation living or employed in Seoul. Frequency, percentage and cross-tab analysis were used to analyze the data. The results were as follows: 1) money management patterns were classified into six types; wife-management pattern, wife-management/husband-alienation pattern, wife-management/husband-involvement patter, joint management pattern, joint/separate mixed pattern, and multi management pattern. Among them wife-mannagement pattern was used most frequencly by the couples. 2) Four family finance control patterns were found and named by joint control, wife control, husband control, and self control. The joint control pattern was found to be the most prevalent one. 3) Money management patterns influenced how family finances were controled.
This paper presents a new stable composite control law for the flexible joint robot manipulators, which incorporate the additional stabilizing control law with sliding property. The singularly perturbated models include inertia moments functions of the deformations of actuator. The newly defined fast controller variable is computed from the corrected reduced-order model without additional computational loads. The simulations for 2 DOF flexible joint manipulator show that the proposed schemes are more stable than conventional one, and especially effective for the manipulator with high joint-flexibilities.

A novel approach based on genetic algorithms (GA) is developed to find a global minimum-jerk trajectory of a space robotic manipulator in joint space. The jerk, the third derivative of position of desired joint trajectory, adversely affects the efficiency of the control algorithms and stabilization of whole space robot system and therefore should be minimized. On the other hand, the importance of minimizing the jerk is to reduce the vibrations of manipulator. In this formulation, a global genetic-approach determines the trajectory by minimizing the maximum jerk in joint space. The planning procedure is performed with respect to all constraints, such as joint angle constraints, joint velocity constraints, joint angular acceleration and torque constraints, and so on. We use an genetic algorithm to search the optimal joint inter-knot parameters in order to realize the minimum jerk. These joint inter-knot parameters mainly include joint angle and joint angular velocities. The simulation result shows that GA-based minimum-jerk trajectory planning method has satisfactory performance and real significance in engineering.
This paper presents the implementation of fuzzy PI gain scheduling controller (FPICGS) for controlling flexible joint robot arms with uncertainties from time-varying load. The term FPICGS is called based on a combination of fuzzy PI control scheme with a set of rule bases. Principle of design for a FPICGS is given along with the implementation of the designed computer aided control system. The experiment reveals an effectiveness of the proposed control scheme for flexible joint robot arms driven by a DC motorhooked with a spring which both parameters are completely unknown parameters ...
