  • In this part, thermal finite element analysis(FEA) is conducted for the experiments in part 1. The molten area of base metals are analyzed by FEA results and compared with experimental ones. Temperature data from FEA results are used to calculate the IMC layer thickness analytically at the interface. IMC layer is established as a function of time and temperature when there is an interaction between solid steel and molten aluminum. The IMC layer thickness is obtained by cumulative computations using the time-temperature data from FEA results.

  • In this paper, I theoretically considered joining and separating activities and revisited the textbooks from 7 countries and Korean mathematics textbooks from 5th revised curriculum to 2015 revised curriculum to find implication for the treatment of 0 in the joining and separating activities. The 'joining' has definition and properties similar to addition, but the 'separating'is difficult to define and is not considered to have properties similar to subtraction. In the sense of computation, joining and separating can be seen as' part-part-to-whole' situations, but are just part of the addition and subtraction situations. The analysis of textbooks from 7 counties showed that Singapore and Malaysia textbooks already studied zero and then included it in joining and separating activities, but other countries did not include it as joining and separating activities. The textbooks of South Korea have consistently suggested not to include zero, but teacher's guide has shown that there is a little consistency in the treatment of zero. As a conclusion, I suggested that it was necessary to propose a proper context of the situation in order to introduce joining and separating without including 0 in terms of student level and to propose that a more consistent presentation of zero handling in the teaching in the teacher's guide.

  • A 3D printed metal part and thermal plastic polymer part were joined by direct laser irradiation. The 3D metal part was fabricated by using DED(Direct Energy Deposition) with STS316 material. The experiment was carried out through no patterned metal surface, 3D metal printed surface and micro laser patterned surface. The most secure joining quality was obtained at the laser micro patterned surface specimen and the counterparts of polymers were PLA and PE based thermo plastics. The applied laser power was 350Watt and the distance of patterns was maintained at $150{\mu}m$. The laser line width was optimized at $450{\mu}m$ and the laser micro pattern depth was $180{\mu}m$ for the best joining quality. Based on the result analysis, the possibility of laser material joining for metal to polymer was proposed and multi-material joining will be possible in 3D laser direct material fabrication.

  • In order to substitute and recycle the existing automobile parts for GMT-sheet, researches on the effects of GMT-sheet on the establishment of precise joining strength, joining condition that are lap length of joining part, compression ratio, and closure speed must be carried out but until now. Besides, many researches on adhesion joint had been conducted until now but no systematic research on press lap joint of GMT-sheet has been implemented until recently and the reliability of joining strength is not yet established. In press lap joining molding of GMT-sheet, tensile stress and lap joining connection efficiency was increased according to the increase of lap length L. However, as the increase of compression ratio and fiber content ratio per unit area was higher in tensile test, it has caused the deterioration of lap joining efficiency after joining molding of GMT-sheet. Clarify joining strength and lap joining efficiency during high temperature compression press lap joining molding of GMT-sheet and research data regarding to the lap length of joining part was presented. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the substitution of existing products as well as usage development in non-automobile field and also to find out precise dynamic characteristics as designing data of structures.

  • Steel has been mainly used in the automotive industry, because of good mechanical properties, weldability and so on. However, there has been increase in using aluminum to reduce the weight of vehicle. This leads to improve fuel efficiency and to reduce air pollution. A steel-aluminum hybrid body structure is recently used not only to reduce the weight of vehicle but also to increase safety. In this paper, the laser beam joining method is suggested to join steel and aluminum. To avoid making brittle intermetallic compounds(IMC) that reduce mechanical properties of the joint area, only aluminum is melted by laser irradiation and wetted on the steel surface. The brittle IMC layer is formed with small thickness at the interface between steel and aluminum. By controlling the process parameters, brittle IMC layer thickness is suppressed under 10 micrometers which is a criterion to maintain good mechanical properties.

  • The complete joining method for dissimilar press punch materials and its real-time evaluation method is not available at present. Brazing method has been used for joining them, but it is known that the welded joint by the brazing has the lower bonding efficiency and reliability than the diffusion welding. The friction welding with a diffusion mechanism in bonding was applied in this study. This work was carried out to determine the proper friction welding conditions and to analyze mechanical properties of friction welded joints of sintered carbide tool materials (SKNM50 for the blade part of press punch) to alloy steel (SCM440 for the shank part of press punch) using aluminum (A6061 for the interlayer material) as an insert material between the sintered carbide tool materials and the alloy steel. In addition, acoustic emission test was carried out during friction welding to evaluate the weld quality.

  • The joining processes of aluminum alloy tubes and polyurethane cores by electromagnetic impulsive compression are studied. The influences of various geometrical factors (the length of joined part, the thickness of tube, and the clearance between tube and core) and the process factors(the discharged energy and the number of discharge)are examined experimentally and discussed. And the magnetic pressure in metal/polymer joining is calculated and is compared to the pressure in metal/metal joining. The following results are obtained: (1) The joining strength is dependent upon the residual radial strain of the polyurethane cores. (2) The joining strength increases as discharged energy and the number of discharge increase, but decreases as the clearance, thickness and joining length of tube increases. (3) In the case of metal/polymer joining energy loss is increased and the value of magnetic pressure is less than that in the case of metal/metal joining.

  • For Al 6k21-T4 alloy, linear laser welding produced the lower shear-tensile strength than the base metal. This study improved the shear-tensile strength by using the weaving laser at the optimized welding condition, i.e., 2mm weaving width and 25Hz frequency. The large weaving width increased the weld width, therefore improving the joint strength. For the specimen of low strength, the porosity was distributed continuously along the intersection between the plates and fusion line. However, for the optimized welding condition, large oval-shaped porosities were located only in the advancing track of the concave part. Regardless of the welding condition, solidification cracking was initiated at the intersection and propagated through small porosities in the weld part. furthermore, the concave part had more significant porosity in the weld and HAZ, respectively than the convex part. The continuity of porosities played a key role to determine the strength. And, the weaving width was an important parameter to control the strength.
