  • The consequence of water system closure and reduced water consumption in Paper Mills is increased white-water conductivity associated with increased total dissolved solids. This leads to difficulties man-aging the wet end chemistry of paper machines, mainly due to stearic hindrance effects on wet end chemical additives. This in turn causes poor productivity and Inefficient chemicals usage. The success of a number of projects is reported. The application and development of new multi-component micro-particle systems which can further assist in achieving a significant degree of system closure or Zero Effluent is described.

  • Purpose: In case of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, graft tendon is generally fixed in tibial tunnel with knee extended. When reconstructing ACL using hamstring tendon, the authors aim to find out the effect of knee joint position during graft fixation on postoperative knee joint stability and range of motion. Materials and Methods: Prospective study was done on patients who have undergone ACL reconstruction using hamstring tendon from May 2002 to January 2003 We used Rigifix system (Mitek Product, Johnson and Johnson, USA) and Intrafix system for fixation. Thirty nine patients received ACL reconstruction during this period. Excluding 2 patients lost in the follow-up, 37 patients were analyzed. The mean follow-up period was 14 months $(13{\sim}25months)$. Knee position was decided alternatively without any bias. Clinical evaluation was based on Lachman test, pivot shift test, Lysholm score, IKDC(international knee documentation committee) assessment and side to side KT-1000 maximal manual arthrometer difference. Results: After the last follow-up, average postoperative Lysholm score was 93.1 poins(65-98points). According to IKDC score, 26 cases were normal, 10 cases were nearly normal, 1 case was abnormal and we had no case of severe abnormality. The mean difference from the normal side was 2.5 mm under maximal manual loading KT-1000 arthrometer. According to postoperative Lachman test, 32 cases were normal,2 cases were grade I and 1 case was grade II. There were 34 cases of normal, 2 cases of grade I and 1 case of grade II. When using maximal manual KT-1000 arthrometer side to side difference, the difference from the normal side while fixing the tibia at 20'knee flexion was 2.3 mm and at full extention the difference was 2.7 mm. The range of motion at postoperative 1 year showed 5 degree flexion contracture in 1 case at 20 degrees knee flexion and 10 degrees of flexion limitation was observed in 2 cases at full extension. Conclusion: When ACL reconstruction using autogenous hamstring tendon, anterior laxity showed no difference in its stability between two groups. Tibial side fixation at full extension may be helpful in preventing flexion contracture due to overconstrained graft tendon.

  • The CCD photometric observations of the W UMa type contact binary GX Aur were performed for 33 nights from 2004 to 2008 using a 2K CCD camera and Johnson BVRI filter system attached to the 61cm reflector at Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (SOAO). From our observations, the first BVRI light curves of GX Aur were completed and eight new times of minima (primary: 4, secondary: 4) were obtained. All the times of minima including our timings were collected and analyzed to see the dynamical behavior of GX Aur system. Intensive analysis of our BVRI lightcurves with the recent Wilson-Devinney binary model shows that GX Aur is an over-contact binary whose component stars have equal mass and time-variable spots.

  • The lubrication modes of line contact between the vane and the camring in an oil hydraulic vane pump have been investigated. First, variations of the radial acting force of a vane were calculated from previously measured results of the dynamic internal pressure in four chambers surrounding a vane. Next, distinctions of the lubrication modes were made using Hooke's chart, which represents an improvement over Johnson's chart. Finally, the influence of boundary conditions in the lubrication region on fluid film lubrication was examined by calculating film pressure distributions. The results show that the lubrication modes of the vane tip are a rigid-variable viscosity region. This region discharges pressure higher than 7 MPa, and exerts a great influence on oil film pressure in the large arc section due to the Piezo-viscous effect.

  • For the multi-nozzle propulsion, the rupture pressure of nozzle closure has an effect on the initial strain rate of ignition. Moreover, the deviation of rupture pressure for each nozzle closure leads to side forces which can disturb the attitude control of rocket. When designed, it should be considered whether nozzle closures are ruptured equally and exactly in the intented pressure. In this paper, the rupture behavior is analyzed by analytical and experimental methods for plate and "+" notched nozzle closures. The rupture pressure and deviation for operating temperature, whether notched or not and notched directions are analyzed. This paper provides a comparison between rupture pressure prediction of finite elements method which tool is Abaqus/Explicit and results of the rupture test. Jonson-Cook shear failure model which corresponds to the damage initiation criterion were used in this simulation.

  • The Purpose Of This Paper Is To Use A Tactile Sensor To Compensate The Error Rate. Most Automated Sphygmomanometers Use The Oscillometric Method And Characteristic Ratio To Estimate Systolic And Diastolic Blood Pressure. However, Based On The Fact That Maximum Amplitude Of The Oscillometric Waveform And Characteristic Ratio Are Affected By Compliance Of The Aorta And Large Arteries, A Method To Measure The Artery Stiffness By Using A Tactile Sensor Was Chosen In Order To Integrate It With The Sphygmomanometer In The Future Instead Of Using Photoplethysmography. Since Tactile Sensors Have Very Weak Movements, Efforts Were Made To Maintain The Subject's Arm In A Fixed Position, And A 40hz Low Pass Filter Was Used To Eliminate Noise From The Power Source As Well As High Frequency Noise. An Analyzing Program Was Made To Get Time Delay Between The First And Second Peak Of The Averaged Digital Volume Pulse(${\Delta}t_{dvp}$), And The Subject's Height Was Divided By ${\Delta}t_{dvp}$ To Calculate The Stiffness Index Of The Arteries($Si_{dvp}$). Regression Equations Of Systolic And Diastolic Pressure Using $Si_{dvp}$ And Mean Arterial Pressure(Map) Were Computed From The Test Group (60 Subjects) Among A Total Of 121 Subjects(Age: $44.9{\pm}16.5$, Male: Female=40:81) And Were Tested In 61 Subjects To Compensate The Error Rate. Error Rates Considering All Subjects Were Systolic $4.62{\pm}9.39mmhg$, And Diastolic $14.40{\pm}9.62mmhg$, And Those In The Test Set Were $3.48{\pm}9.32mmhg,\;And\;14.34{\pm}9.67mmhg$ Each. Consequently, Error Rates Were Compensated Especially In Diastolic Pressure Using $Si_{dvp}$, Various Slopes From Digital Volume Pulse And Map To Systolic-$1.91{\pm}7.57mmhg$ And Diastolic $0.05{\pm}7.49mmhg$.

  • We present a new photometric study of the globular cluster NGC288 in Stromgren u, v, b, y, and H$\beta$ system. This cluster is known to have an intermediate metallicity but its color-magnitude diagram has a pure blue horizontal branch, which is a signature of metal poor stellar population. We compare our dataset with Bergbusch's (1993) in both field size and CMD to see whether different photometry system would determine the same physical parameters of a cluster. Demarque and Yi's isochrones (1996, private communication) were applied to Bergbusch's dataset, and we obtained distance modulus of (m - M) = 14.9 $\pm$ 0.2, color excess of E(B - V) = 0.03, and age of 1.5$\pm$3 Gyr. Vandenberg's (1985) isochrones for Stromgren system were also applied to Bergbusch's and our data. We find that the isochrone fits to different photometric systems give rather in consist ant solutions. The source of this discrepancy may become clear when the Demarque and Yi's isochrones for Johnson system are converted to those of Stromgren system. We note that Kurucz model atmospheres provide a useful ground for this conversion work as well as theoretical study of Stromgren characteristics of globular cluster stars.

  • Maemi Dual Field Telescope System (MDFTS) is a dual telescope system located at Kyung Hee University. The system consists of 0.4 m telescope and 0.1 m telescope for wide-field observation. The 0.4 m telescope provides photometric observation which covers a field of view of 21'×16'. It has been used for various purposes with Johnson-Cousins UBVRI broadband filter system, e.g., SomangNet and Intensive Monitoring Survey of Nearby Galaxies. In this poster, we present the standard calibration result for our broadband filter system. Also, we suggest a new usage of the KHAO 0.4m telescope which is narrowband photometry by demonstrating the standard calibration of H-alpha filter. For flux calibration, not only R filter but also V filter is used for compensating the central wavelength discrepancy between R filter and H-alpha filter.

  • The 76 cm telescope in Kyung Hee Astronomical Observatory is participating in the small telescope network of the SomangNet project, which started in 2020. Since the installation of the telescope in 1992, the system configuration has been changed several times. The optical system of this telescope has a Ritchey-Chrétien configuration with 76 cm in diameter and the focal ratio is f/7. The mount is a single fork equatorial type and its control system is operated by TheSkyX software. We use a science camera with a 4k × 4k CCD and standard Johnson-Cousins UBVRI filters, which cover a field of view of 23.7 × 23.7 arcmin. We are also developing the Kyung Hee Automatic Observing Software for the 76 cm telescope (KAOS76) for efficient operations. In this work, we present the standard star calibration results, the current status of the system, and the expected science capabilities.

  • We have recently installed SQUEAN on the 82 inch telescope at the McDonald Observatory, USA. This instrument consists of an ANDOR CCD camera, a focal reducer, an electronic box, an auto guiding system and a new filter wheel which holds up to 20 filters. Currently the filter wheel is equipped with Johnson-Cousins BVRI filters, SDSS rizY and isiz filters, and 50nm medium band pass filters (M625(625nm), M675(675nm), M725(725nm), M775(775nm), M825(825nm), M875(875nm), M925s(925nm), M975(975nm), and M1025(1025nm)). Our medium band pass filter system is suitable with SED fitting. Filter transformation methods are essential for time-domain observations including transient objects, e.g., supernovae, variable stars, and solar system bodies. In this work, we develop a series of equations to convert the open clusters photometry data within these filter systems.
