Tree size distribution modelling is an integral part of forest management. Most distribution yield systems rely on some flexible probability models. In this study, a simple finite mixture of two components two-parameter Weibull distribution was compared with complex four-parameter distributions in terms of their fitness to predict tree size distribution of teak (Tectona grandis Linn f) plantations. Also, a system of equation was developed using Seemingly Unrelated Regression wherein the size distributions of the stand were predicted. Generalized beta, Johnson's SB, Logit-Logistic and generalized Weibull distributions were the four-parameter distributions considered. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and negative log-likelihood value were used to assess the distributions. The results show that the simple finite mixture outperformed the four-parameter distributions especially in stands that are bimodal and heavily skewed. Twelve models were developed in the system of equation-one for predicting mean diameter, seven for predicting percentiles and four for predicting the parameters of the finite mixture distribution. Predictions from the system of equation are reasonable and compare well with observed distributions of the stand. This simplified mixture would allow for wider application in distribution modelling and can also be integrated as component model in stand density management diagram.
This paper presents a new architecture, called "Power Electronics Remote Wiring and Measurement Laboratory (PermLAB)", that translates a common gateway interface (CGI) string from a remote web user to a web server connected to a 3-dimension switching matrix board, can be used to switch on and off, and to control a cluster of instruments and components. PermLAB addresses real-time connection, switching, and data acquisition over the Internet instead of using simulated data. A software procedure uses a signature system to identify each instrument and component in a complex system. The Web-server application is developed in HTML, JavaScript and Java, and in C language for the CGI interface, which resides in a controller portion of LabVIEW. The LabVIEW software fully integrates the Web sever, LabVIEW data acquisition boards and controllers, and the 3-dimensional switching matrix board. The paper will analyze a half-wave rectifier (AC - DC converter) circuit connected over the Internet using the PermLAB. PermLAB allows students to obtain real data by real-time wiring of real circuits in the laboratory using a "virtual breadboard" on the Web. The software for the Web-based 3-dimensional system is flexible, portable, can be integrated into many laboratory applications or expanded, and easily accessible worldwide.

The purpose of this study is to calculate the behavior of molecules for the generation of homogeneous thin-films in the process of spray deposition. The calculation system was composed of a suface molecular region and droplet molecular region. The thin-film was generated when droplet molecules fell to surface molecules. Lennard-Jones potential had been used as intermolecular potential, and only attraction 때 d repulsion had been used for the behavior of the droplet on the solid surface. As results, the behavior of the droplet was so much influenced by the surface temperature in the spray deposition process. High temperature of surface has higher porosity and larger spread area. It was found that simulation results generally agreed well with previous the experimental results. This simulation result will be the foundation for the deposition processes of industry.

Current seismic design codes do not contemplate explicitly some variables that are relevant for the design of structures subjected to ground motions exhibiting large energy content. Particularly, the lack of explicit consideration of the cumulative plastic demands and of the degradation of the hysteretic cycle may result in a significant underestimation of the lateral strength of reinforced concrete structures built on soft soils. This paper introduces and illustrates the use of a numerical performance-based methodology for the predesign of standard-occupation reinforced concrete ductile structures. The methodology takes into account two limit states, the performance of the non-structural system, and in the case of the life safety limit state, the effect of cumulative plastic demands and of the degradation of the hysteretic cycle on the assessment of structural performance.
This keynote presentation covers the subject of intelligent systems development for monitoring and control in various NASA space applications. Similar intelligent systems technology also has applications in terrestrial commercial applications. Discussion will be given of the general approach of intelligent systems and description given of intelligent systems under prototype development for possible use in Space Shuttle Upgrade, in the Experimental Crew Return. Vehicle, and in free-flying space robotic cameras to provide autonomy to these spacecraft with flexible human intervention, if desired or needed. Development of intelligent system monitoring and control for regenerative life support subsystems such as NASA's human rated Bio-PLEX test facility is also described. A video showing two recent world's firsts in real-time vision-guided robotic arm and hand grasping of tumbling and translating complex shaped objects in micro-gravity will also be shown.

Patient satisfaction with the Emergency Department(ED) in a hospital is related to the length of stay, and especially to the amount of waiting time for medical treatments. ED overcrowding decreases quality and efficiency, therefore affecting hospitals' profitability. This paper presents a forecasting and simulation model for resource management of the ED at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. A linear regression forecasting model is proposed to predict the number of ED patient arrivals, and then a simulation model is provided to estimate the length of stay of ED patients, system throughput, and the utilization of resources such as triage nurses, patient beds, registered nurses, and medical doctors. The near future load level of each resource is presented using the proposed models.
The recent stream to reliability prediction is that it is totally inclusive in depth to consider even the operating and environmental condition at the level of finished goods as well as component itselves. In this study, firstly we present the reliability prediction methods by entire failure rate model which failure rate at the system level is added to the failure rate model at the component level. Secondly we build up the improved bases of reliability demonstration through a, pp.ication of Kaplan-Meier, Cumulative hazard, Johnson's methods as non-parametric and Maximum Likelihood Estimator under exponential & Weibull distribution as parametric. And also present the methods of curve fitting to piecewise failure rate under Weibull distribution, PRST (Probability Ratio Sequential Test), curve fitting to S-shaped reliability growth curve, computer programs of each methods. Lastly we show the practical for determination of optimal burn-in time as a method of reliability enhancement, and also verify the practical usefulness of the above study through the a, pp.ication of failure and test data during 1 year.

A new polymer technology commercialized with the name of Core Shell has been developed by Ondeo Nalco Company. Laboratory evaluations have demonstrated that Core Shell polymers produce a floc with high shear resistance, making them the flocculants of choice for modern high-speed paper machines. Core Shell polymers provide significant papermaking benefits, when used as single component or in combination with microparticles. At this time, the new program has been successfully applied on more than 60 paper and board machines across the world. Implementation of Core Shell polymers with or without a microparticle provided better and more stable retention values and improvements in paper quality, system cleanliness and machine runnability.
The temperature effects of the KNU UBV photometric system are investigated, using the HAMAMATSU 1P21 data. The variation of the passband width of V-band with temperature is about $5{\AA}/^{\circ}C$ while those of B-band and U-band are negligible. This large effect of V-band causes a significant variation of V-mag. and (B-V)-color with temperature such as ${\sim}0.02mag/^{\circ}C$ in both cases. This result strongly suggests that in the photometric observations of binary stars, the temperature effects of the response of photomultiplier and the passband of filters must be considered to avoid the systematic variation in magnitude and color particularly at the minimum of light curve.
