Cerebrovascular disease causes various symptoms like hemiparalysis, facial palsy, dysphagia, dysphasia etc. Although patients take lots of time to treatment, there are many cases symptoms could not be cured completely and patients could get sequelae. Jihwangeumja(dihuangyinzi) is used the cerebrovascular disease with dysphasia and motor impairment of the lower extremities due to weakness of kidney. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Jihwangeumja on lower extremity weakness caught by cerebrovascular disease. In this study, we administered Jihwangeumja to two stroke patients with lower extremity weakness and analyzed the clinical progresses. As a result of the treatment, patients showed improved symptoms.

The source of prescription of Jihwangeumja to treat the mental confusion due to phlegm caused by kidney 'deficiency and Yin and Yang deficiency is found in 'Hwangjesomunseonmyeongronbang $\ll$黃帝素問宣明論方$\gg$'. The source of prescription of Jihwangeum is found in 'Seongjechongnok $\ll$聖濟總錄$\gg$'. Therefore, it seems reasonable to change the prescription to 'Jihwangeum' from 'Jihwangeumja' and to change the source of prescription to 'Seongjechongnok $\ll$聖濟總錄$\gg$' from 'Hwangjesomunseonmyeongronbang $\ll$黃帝素問宣明論方$\gg$'. In addition, 'Jihwangeum' is influenced by 'Naebosan' in 'Cheongeumbang $\ll$千金方$\gg$'. Jihwangeumja gave the substantial influence on the treatment of 'Endogenous wind due to hyperactivity' of Yeopcheonsa. Jihwangeumja supplements the true Yuan, smooths the circulation of the flow inside a body and coordinates the interaction between heart and kidney so that it ultimately eliminates sputum and activates circulation inside a body. If the guideline of diagnosis is accurate, many kinds of diseases can be effectively treated through the principle of treating different disease with the same therapy. In addition, it will be also effectively used for headache after cerebral hemorrhage, trigeminal neuralgia(sore tongue), diabetes insipidus, nervous breakdown, hyperthyroidism, chronic glomerulonephritis, infertility and anemia.

Objectives : Oxidative stress can induce negative responses such as growth inhibition or cell death by necrosis or apoptosis due to the intensity of the oxidative stress, as well as positive responses such as cellular proliferation or activation. We examined the effect of Jihwangeumja on this process. Methods and Results : We analyzed the influence of oxidative stress and agents that modify its effect in human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC). Oxidative stress was induced by $B_2O_2$. With induced oxidative stress the results obtained indicate that it has a harmful effect over cell function and viability, and that this effect is dose and time dependent. When oxidative stress increased, Jihwangeumja reduced cell damage and had protective functions. $B_2O_2$, induced the apoptosis of HUVEC through the activation of intrinsic caspases pathway as well as mitochondrial dysfunction. A significant increase in cell survival was observed in culture cells with oxidative stress when they were treated with Jihwangeumja. Conclusions : These results suggest that Jihwangeumja may be potentially useful to treat HUVEC against oxidative damages mediated by modulation of caspase protease and mitochondrial dysfunction.

Objectives: This case study reports on the effectiveness of traditional Korean medicine in treating Parkinson’s disease.Method: A patient with Parkinson’s disease was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, and pharmacopuncture. The improvement in Parkinson’s disease symptoms was measured using self-evaluation of the change in symptoms.Results: The use of traditional Korean medicine treatments appeared to show improvement in Parkinson’s disease symptoms.Conclusion: The results of this case study suggest that traditional Korean medicine may be a possible treatment option for Parkinson’s disease.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical effect of Korean medicine on a patient who suffered from dizziness. Methods: The patient was treated with herbal medicine for about 2 weeks. Results: Clinical symptoms (dizziness) improved following treatment with Korean medicine. Conclusions: Korean medicine may be effective for improving clinical symptoms of dizziness.
