  • Mankyua chejuense is the only member of the monotypic genus Mankyua (Ophioglossaceae) and is endemic to Jejudo Island, Korea. To determine the precise phylogenetic position of M. chejuense, two cpDNA regions of 42 accessions representing major members of lycophytes are obtained from GenBank and analyzed using three phylogenetic analyses (maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian inference). In addition, the divergence time is estimated based on a relaxed molecular clock using four fossil calibration points. The phylogenetic position of Mankyua still appears to be uncertain, representing either the earliest diverged lineage within Ophioglossaceae or a sister to the clade containing Ophioglossum and Helminthostachys. The most recent common ancestor of Ophioglossaceae and its sister lineage, Psilotum, was estimated to be 256 Ma, while the earliest divergence of Mankyua was estimated to be 195 Ma in the early Jurassic.

  • The clustering analysis and comparison of male genitalia of Silpha perforata complex were carried out to decide the taxonomic status of the population from Jejudo Is., Korea. One hundred and five individuals from Korea, Japan, and China were examined for the present study. Based on the result, the population of Jejudo Is. was treated as intraspecies of Silpha perforata with a morphological variation.

  • A morphological and molecular survey was conducted to determine the taxonomic status of Saussurea maximowiczii var. triceps on Jejudo Island. Although it tends to be smaller than S. maximowiczii with regard to typical quantitative characters of vegetative organs, including the plant height and leaf size, these two taxa cannot be distinguished from each other based on major reproductive characters, including the involucre and florets. Molecular data support the contention that S. triceps and S. maximowiczii are monophyletic taxa. Saussurea maximowiczii var. triceps is found to be an ecological phenotype of S. maximowiczii that has adapted particularly to the windy highlands of Hallasan Mountain on Jejudo Island.

  • The Jeju Special Self-Government Provincial Government has made the plan penetrating gradually electric vehicles(EVs) in the Jeju Special Self-Government Province(Jejudo). However the effects of EVs penetration on the electrical grid of the Jejudo is not reported. In this paper the yearly electric energy consumed by the EVs was calculated and the effects of the EV penetration on the peak power of the grid were analyzed in the Jejudo for the future 10 years, and we hope that our study results will help the governors realize the EVs penetration plan in the Jejudo. The calculation results show that the rate of the electric energy used by the EVs will become to 2.9% at its maximum at the 2017 year when the penetration rate of EVs in passenger cars becomes 10%, and the rate of the electric energy consumed by the EVs will become to 9.4% at its maximum at the 2020 year when the penetration rate of EVs in passenger cars becomes 30%. The concepts of smart-charging capacity and 100%-valley-filling charging capacity of the grid were defined and calculated for the Jeju Grid, and the grid was analyzed to have the sufficient EV charging capacity until the 2022 year.

  • An Uraniidae moth, Lyssa zampa (Butler, 1869) is newly discovered from southern Korea. One male specimen was collected at a valley of south aspect of Mt. Hallasan, Jejudo in July, 2014. This species is briefly described and illustrated here. DNA barcoding sequence (Genbank KU160388) for the species was provided for species identification.

  • A new variety, Lecanorchis japonica var. insularis (Orchidaceae: Vanilloideae), a mycoheterotrophic orchid from Jejudo Island, Korea, is described and illustrated. It usually grows with L. japonica var. japonica, L. japonica var. hokurikuensis and L. kiusiana in evergreen forests. The newly described variety is distinguished from L. japonica vars. japonica, hokurikuensis, and kiiensis by having fully opened, larger flowers and an obtuse labellum apex.

  • Some echinoids were collected at about 20m depth of the sea in Moseulpo of Jejudo Island. Among them two species, Diadema setosum (Leske, 1778) and Toxopneu-stes pileolus(Lamarck, 18716), turned out to be new to the Korean fauna. They were redescribed on the morphological characteristics with illustrations. The order Diadematoida is new to Korea. Fourteen echinoids species so far have been report-ed from the sea around Jejudo Island in Korea.

  • A natural ventilating type store was designed for the economic and effective storage of citrus fruits in Jejudo. The material used for the wall is scoria, widely distributed in Jejudo and known for high strength and insulation. Design condition was chosen for the period till March of a year and the dry bulb temperature was taken from TAC $5\%$ base. The temperature of the store can be maintained below the limiting temperature of $8^{\circ}C$ for the time length of $7\frac{1}{2}$ hours under the condition of the atmospheric temp, $15.3^{\circ}C$ and the solar insolation. The limiting temperature can he recovered to the initial temperature $(7^{\circ}C)$ by the natural ventilation for 8 hours in the night.
