Since modernization period thru Japanese colonial era the modern architect began to play a important role for Korean housing architecture. So called 'House as an Art Work', detached houses by prominent architects, belong to a meaningful sector in Korean modern housing architecture. The harmony with tradition was always big issue for such works. This study aims to understand how paradigms for tradition were interpreted with the changes of the time. The analysis showed various tryout by architects, that concretize traditional characteristics in their work. For example, traditional lifestyle were clearly reflected in the floorplan during 30's and 40's. In the 70's building mass and formative roof design were emphasized to present traditional image. As well as it represented primitive esthetic and vernacular decoration. In addition, expressive tendency, that demonstrates korean sentiment through material and its texture, got a preference. Since latter half of 80's some traditional architectural elements were modernized and space characteristics were newly created from acculturation. Furthermore the philosophy of "Subdivision of building wings and Emptiness" follows this trend. This type made a courtyard and connected articulated building masses each other. "Sympathy with Nature" were most essential for a traditional houses in contrast with western architecture. Many architects today make various method to bring nature into interior space and to contemplate nature In the house. Such kinds of adaptation to tradition could be understood as a unique process to manifest identity of Korean modern houses.

Artistic font design has become an integral part of visual media. However, without prior knowledge of the font domain, it is difficult to create distinct font styles. When the number of characters is limited, this task becomes easier (e.g., only Latin characters). However, designing CJK (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) characters presents a challenge due to the large number of character sets and complexity of the glyph components in these languages. Numerous studies have been conducted on automating the font design process using generative adversarial networks (GANs). Existing methods rely heavily on reference fonts and perform font style conversions between different fonts. Additionally, rather than capturing style information for a target font via multiple style images, most methods do so via a single font image. In this paper, we propose a network architecture for generating multilingual font sets that makes use of geometric structures as content. Additionally, to acquire sufficient style information, we employ multiple style images belonging to a single font style simultaneously to extract global font style-specific information. By utilizing the geometric structural information of content and a few stylized images, our model can generate an entire font set while maintaining the style. Extensive experiments were conducted to demonstrate the proposed model's superiority over several baseline methods. Additionally, we conducted ablation studies to validate our proposed network architecture.

Neoporphyra kitoi Ma. Abe, N. Kikuchi, Tamaki, Tom. Sato, Murase, Fujiyoshi & Mas. Kobayashi has been known as an endemic species in Japan. Its high temperature tolerance suggests that it could be advantageous for cultivation. In this study, we collected it from the Ulleungdo island, Korea and transferred it into Pyropia for a new combination, identified as Pyropia kitoi(Ma. Abe, N. Kikuchi, Tamaki, Tom. Sato, Murase, Fujiyoshi & Mas. Kobayashi) D.J. Kim, T.O. Cho & B.Y. Won comb. nov. based on morphological and molecular analyses. Pyropia kitoi is also reported as a new record species in the list of Korean macroalgal flora. Although we didn't observe the emergence of new blades from the rhizoidal cells, which is a key character for this species, our molecular analysis of rbcL revealed that our samples from Korea were congruent with "Neoporphyra kitoi" from Japan and were nested within the clade of Pyropia. The gene sequence divergence between the Korean and Japanese samples was 0-0.2%.
Animations characterize space as a strategy to effectively show the inner conflicts of characters and to highlight the theme. During the process of inner conflict, characters unconsciously use defense mechanism to protect their egos from the fear that came from deficiency, and because of the self-deceptive quality of self-defense mechanism, the reality is distorted and conflicts get intensified. This study focuses on the concept of anti-house, the space where conflicts get intensified, analyzes animations to find out the aspect of inner conflict, and interprets the characteristic of space that is used for metaphoric structure frame. Also, it aims to reveal how the defense mechanism, which intensifies the inner conflict of characters, is characterized as anti-house. The analysis in this study was mainly done with the TV series, , and the theater version of . It is because the characters have serious deficiency from broken home and have a psychological quality of closed boundary that is symbolized as 'A.T. field'. Especially, the core character, 'Shinji Ikari', shows how a character uses compulsive self-defense mechanism to deal with inner conflict and as a result, goes through ego-collapse and then introspection. This process of the character's experience is the core of the whole plot. Through analysis, the relationship between the character's self-defense mechanism and the space, anti-house(which expands to Anti-city), was inferred. The space is made up of three axes, x-axis of horizontal space, y-axis of vertical space, and in the sense that all the space has no exit, z-axis of deeper contradictory space. This thesis started with the decision that is the most suitable work in analyzing the metaphorical relationship between self-defense mechanism and anti-house. There was limitation, however, as the typical characteristics of Japanese animations, pedantic composition and the possibility of broad interpretation, hindered clear verification. Hopefully, this limitation will be overcome by following studies and this study is expected to show the importance of space in interpreting the text of animations, and to serve as database for other creative works.
In the 18th century, Xu Lingtai (徐靈胎) and Yoshimasu Todo (吉益東洞) were medical revolutionaries. They emphasized researches about synthesis of formulae, efficacy of medication and observation and then classification of clinical phenomena, so they assumed a modern scientific character. But, there were clear differences between their academic thoughts. In this paper, we examine the causes of difference in three fields, i.e. traditional culture, viewpoints of talented people and academic personality. The first, difference was due to traditional culture. Chinese medicine has a long history and heavy traditional culture. Yin-Yang (陰陽) theory, Five Phase(五行) theory, Viscera and Bowels (臟腑) theory and Meridian and Collateral (經絡) theory stemmed from everyday practice, and Chinese people learn these theories from experience and observation. From the standpoint of Chinese people, particularly scholarly doctors [儒醫] such as Xu Lingtai, it was easy to debate medical theories. In contrast, Japanese traditional culture didn't have as long a history as China. Thus as a necessity, it was harder to disseminate traditional Chinese medicine theories in Japan. Yoshimasu Todo simplified it by cutting out the superfluous traditional Chinese medicine theory, so at that time it must have been shocking to the Japanese medical world's trends. The second, difference was due to viewpoints of talented experts. From the standpoint of Xu Lingtai, above all, medicine is just a learning, only a kind of technique, even more not a means of living. Xu Lingtai was concerned with the appearance of very talented experts such as 'great man' (偉人), and 'exceptional man' (奇士) who carried out medical research. Instead of cultivating a few talented people, Yoshimasu Todo tried to produce a large number of clinicians quickly who could treat ordinary people. The third was due to personality difference. As Xu Lingtai threw away Confucianism and studied medicine in his youth, although he had a critical attitude, he was always mild-mannered. Yoshimasu Todo always had a clearly critical and rebellious nature. Personality influenced their literary spirit and learning style, so although both advocated reactionism, the academic thought of Xu Lingtai was reformative and mild, while that of Yoshimasu Todo was revolutionary and fierce. Xu Lingtai and Yoshimasu Todo had considerably similar research domains and academic thought, so it is proper for them both to serve as examples for making a comparative study of medical history in China and Japan in 18th century.
As Digital technology developed, drawing animation, using traditional production method which expresses many feelings with drawn lines loses the youth group, the primary audience, to the realism of the digital cinema. Drawing animation, which drew attention of the youth by the spectacles in the film such as hectic pace, dynamics and punch, declined for a while. However, it has been developed a way to express pace and dynamics of its own by establishing an effective directing method, which combines digital technology as it is needed. This study has a purpose to investigate what causes the dynamics and feeling of fast movement of the character in Japanese limited animation. Though some action-animated films that heroes with supernatural powers take the leading role that feeling of velocity and dynamics are emphasized we compare the directing method before and after the introduction of the digital technology. This research reaches the conclusion by factoring each Bergson and McLuhan's discussion to the intervention of indexical signs and the audience's participation according to skipping technique. This study has a significance of researching the element of drawing animation that maximizes the expansion of the senses by defying the limitation of the law of physics through its unique way of directing together with growth of the hero films, which will continue.
This study examines the ethnoscape of TV dramas on three Korean nationwide television channels from 2005 to 2012 by breaking down how many non-Koreans appear and how they are represented. Among all TV dramas, 6.4% show non-Korean characters of which are generally supportive or small roles. These characters are categorized into four groups: adoration, sympathy, proximity, and other. The adoration group consists mostly of white males from USA or Europe that have professional careers such as medical doctors or lawyers and are positively represented with attractive appearance and nice character. On the other hand, the sympathy group is made up of Southeast, Central Asians and blacks. They are mainly represented as an underprivileged group: females and low-paid workers. In the proximity group are the Japanese and Chinese characters. The Japanese are often represented as rich people that are highly competent or are able to easily cooperate with Koreans. This result shows that Korean TV dramas provide racial and ethnic stereotypes. Though rarely, some dramas represent various lives of foreigners and racial others in Korea. This study contributes to the establishment of sound multiculturalism by analyzing representation of racial others in TV dramas and internalized stereotypes of foreigners in the diverse and multicultural Korean society.
Change in morphological and biological characteristics of Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica, by maturation were determined by examination of 182 individuals collected in Korea waters from September to December 2014. Eels were classified into four stages based on the silvering index. The proportion of silver eels collected from streams and estuaries (34.6%) was higher than that from the freshwater reservoirs (3.8%). The sex ratio between female and male was 1:0.11 (n=182). Mean total length and weight were positively related to the silvering process. The ratios of head and pectoral lengths to total length and the ratio of horizontal and vertical orbital diameters to head length were significantly different between the maturation stages. However the ratio of pre-dorsal and pre-anal lengths to total length were not significantly different between the maturation stages. The gonado-somatic index was the single character that could identify the whole four stages among the indices examined: gonado-somatic index (GSI), condition factor (K), gut index (GI) and eye index (EI) but hepato-somatic index (HSI). One pseudo-silver eel collected. looked like a late silver eel in the S2 stage according to its external body color and morphology, but most of other characteristics suggested that it might be in Y1 (yellow eel) or Y2 stage (late yellow eel).

^x As mentioned above, I consider the change of role that is related with Japanese thought of Natural Environmental Conservation, and I divide each part of periods into forest, farmland, open space, urban planning, environmental conservation etc. To summary the content of each period of Natural Environmental Conservation thought is as follows. 1) Previous period before formation(before 1919) In the previous period of Meiji, it could be said that the consciousness of the Natural Environmental Conservation was coming to existence. In this, so called, Natural Environmental Conservation, the thought of Forest Preservation was the main current and it was the thought of territorial integrity for the security of resource, the forestry conservancy and flood control in the forestry farmland. Since the age of Meiji, the theory of Natural Conservation appears from the theory of Japanese landscaping and systematic management about public parks was enforced, but the regular theory of Natural Environmental Conservation did not attain full growth. 2) The period of formation(1919~ 1954) In the period of formation, the base of Natural Environmental Conservation had been established. Parks and Open spaces were admitted as a public facilities in each city, and legislations which supported it had been continuously enacted and so on. In this period, the afforestation counter plan was emphasized on the side of territorial integrity. In the mountainous district. tree planting was emphasized to recover the forest which had been destroied by war. 3) The period of development(1955~ 1974) In the period of development, varied policies was institutionalized for the Natural Environmental Conservation. However, all sorts of development policy had performed simultaneously, thus development had complicated relation with preservation. But after 1970's the framework of system of Natural Environmental Conservation improvement was constituted to control the many kinds of development, and the spontaneous campaign of nature preservation by private lead was being taken root. This is the more progressive period. 4) The pried of root(after 1975) After the latter of 1970's, the role of Natural Environmental Conservation began to take root not in the direction of control but inducement, and, getting out of development - oriented policy, aimed at relation between human being and natural environment and the side of amenity of human environment. Besides, the current of Natural Environmental Conservation had been seperately progressed in the cities and forests. Since this period, it was the character that cities and forests began to be unified as 'amenity'space of man.
This research aimed at investigating Kim Gyoshin's recognition on Korean traditional ideology and harmony of Christian idea and traditional idea through the writing and diary in "Bible Joseon". Kim Gyoshin expressed positive interest in Korean traditional idea and traditional religion, and intended to localize Christian belief through communicating with them. He expressed infinite respect for national cultural asset of Buddhism, intending to research Korean Buddhism. He paid utmost attention to Confucianism among traditional ideas. He had a strong affection for learning(好學), benevolence(仁義), conscience(良心) of Confucianism as patriotic character. He calmly practiced caution and solitary(愼獨) of sincere(誠), solemnity(敬) of Confucianism through his life, however he chose Christian belief by accepting atonement belief realizing human sinful nature fundamentally inherent in human being. He personally respected Confucius and lived after the model of him, however he searched the spirit of life to renew the people from Christianity. Academically, he respected Confucius, and believed in Jesus in religion. He highly evaluated the attitude of patriot(志士), which highly regarded the academic attitude of learning(好學) and benevolence(仁義), in this regard, criticized blind and non-intellectual belief. He had an open attitude toward Korean traditional idea with no prejudice. As human individuals have their own inherent moral value, he viewed that each people would have their inherent ethnicity and mission. He considered that Korean Peninsula where contradiction and yoke of the world history are inherent is the center of East Asia that would purify injustice of the world. He viewed that Korean people had owned their original good heart[仁] even before Buddhism and Confucianism had been transmitted to the country. He determined that Korean people were good people, who received goodness from the heaven. However, while Uchimura created Japanese style Christianity by adapting Japanese knighthood to Christian idea, Kim Gyoshin lacked sharp critical mind regarding how to establish Korean style Christianity by adapting which of Korean traditional idea to Christian idea.
