The flavin-dependent monooxygenase Sam5 was previously reported to be a bifunctional hydroxylase with coumarate 3-hydroxylase and resveratrol 3'-hydroxylase activities. In this article, we showed the Sam5 enzyme has 3'-hydroxylation activities for methylated resveratrols (pinostilbene and pterostilbene), hydroxylated resveratrol (oxyresveratrol), and glycosylated resveratrol (piceid) as substrates. However, piceid, a glycone-type stilbene used as a substrate for bioconversion experiments with the Sam5 enzyme expressed in Escherichia coli, did not convert to the hydroxylated compound astringin, but it was converted by in vitro enzyme reactions. Finally, we report a novel catalytic activity of Sam5 monooxygenase for the synthesis of piceatannol derivatives, 3'-hydroxylated stilbene compounds. Development of this bioproduction method for the hydroxylation of stilbenes is challenging because of the difficulty in expressing P450-type hydroxylase in E. coli and regiospecific chemical synthesis.

The purpose of this study was to measure the changes in S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) content and to find the best condition for SAM Kimchi during fermentation with the different kinds of raw materials of Kimchi and the diverse ways of making Kimchi. As fermentation was processing, pH of all Kimchi groups dramatically decreases at the beginning stage of experimentation. However, pH value was 4.2-4.3 in the last stage. Titratable acidity tends toward the similar results in pH value. At the first, the SAM content went down time substantially and then increases. Kimchi (A), which was made of the most basic raw materials, resulted in the lowest content of SAM. The most abundant SAM content of Kimchi was the Kimchi made with certain materials. Kimchi (I) had the most has SAM content, overall. The best time of fermentation was when pH was between 4.3 and 5.3, and titratable acidity was 0.5-1.0%. As the results of this study, the highest SAM content in Kimchi could be made when Kimchi was fermented for 9-12 days and titratable acidity showed 0.5-1.0% This study proved that the ratio of raw materials such as red pepper, fermented fished sauces, and other materials improved the levels of SAM in the Kimchi.

Many researchers make efforts to develop an effective material with anti-degradation property. Specially, the porcelain type insulator is required exchanging to polymer insulator according to the environmental consideration. In this paper, we have developed the estimation system using the PD & SD testing. Those approach has been very successful applied to the various practical insulator.

This study aims to examine the costumes, which a shaman wears for the ritual of exorcism in the Honam region. The findings are based on a field survey of the exorcism ritual, which is performed by hereditary shamans and forms part of an annual event in the Honam region. Two main features of the shamans' costumes were observed. Firstly, the types of shamanic costume worn for gut reflected the general traditional costume but with some variations. White-colored costumes are largely found in the Honam region. Secondly, the types of costumes, which shamans wear in the Honam region. are also varied. The different types of shamanic costumes, regardless of Ga-sa, can be classified into Jang-sam, Jeon-bok, or Duru-magi, variations in the patterns of costumes, differences in the types of conical hat, and modifications in the dress code.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assess the effect auricular acupuncture for acute mental stress using power spectrum analysis of the heart rate variability(HRV). Methods : 10 healthy volunteers participated in this study. After 5 minute rest, the first mental stress was provided for 5 minute. And then subjects rested for 15 minute. The second mental stress was provided for 5 minute. The acupoint, Shin-Mun point of the ear was stimulated for 15 minute. HRV was recorded before and after the first and second mental stress, and after auricular acupuncture stimulation. Results : After mental stress, normalized LF and LF/HF ratio is significantly increased. Before and after simple rest, normalized LF and normalized HF is significantly changed, but LF and LF/HF ratio is not significantly changed. On the other hand, before and after auricular acupuncture treatment, normalized LF, normalized HF is significantly changed, and also LF and LF/HF ratio is significantly decreased. Conclusion : The result suggest that auricular acupuncture can decrease more significantly in cardiac sympathetic activity due to mental stress than simple rest.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine a distribution of sasang constitution among dyspepsia patients, and to weigh their symptoms score. Methods : We surveyed symptoms of dyspepsia and QSCCII in one hundred dyspepsia patients who had undergone upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Results : In distribution of sasang constitution in total dyspepsia patients group and distribution according to the result of endoscopy, ratio and symptoms score of So-Eum-tn were higher than the others. However the differences were not statistically significant. According to symptoms score by age, symptoms score of Tae-Eum-In in patients above 35 years old group was higher than the others. In patients group under 35 years old, symptoms score of So- Yang-In is higher than the others. However in neither group was this statistically significant.
