The Swyer-James syndrome is a relatively uncommon disease entity presented with unilateral hyperlucent lung due to hypoplasia of a pulmonary artery and bronchiectasis of the affected lung. The main finding is a hyperlucent lung with small hilar shadows on the chest X-ray. Pulmonary angiography is the standard method for diagnosis. We report a case of the Swyer-James syndrome with a brief review of literature.

이 논문은 임의중단 표본을 이용하여 entropy에 대한 두 개의 버클리-제임스(Buckley-James)형 추정량을 제안한다. 제안된 추정량의 소표본 특징을 조사하기 위하여 컴퓨터 모의실험을 실시하였다. 이 때 사용된 분포는 증가위험률, 상수위험률, 감소위험율을 갖는 분포를 가정하였고, 실제의 자료를 이용하여 분석하는 예를 보인다.

Consider a p-variate normal distribution ($p-q{\geq}3$, q = rank($P_V$) with a projection matrix $P_V$). Using a simple property of noncentral chi square distribution, the generalized Bayes estimators dominating the James-Stein estimator shrinking towards projection vectors under quadratic loss are given based on the methods of Brown, Brewster and Zidek for estimating a normal variance. This result can be extended the cases where covariance matrix is completely unknown or ${\sum}={\sigma}^2I$ for an unknown scalar ${\sigma}^2$.

For the mean vector of a p-variate normal distribution ($p{\geq}3$), the optimal estimation within the class of James-Stein type decision rules under the quadratic loss are given when the underlying distribution is that of a variance mixture of normals and when the norm ${\parallel}\underline{{\theta}}{\parallel}$ in known. It also demonstrated that the optimal estimation within the class of Lindley type decision rules under the same loss when the underlying distribution is the previous type and the norm ${\parallel}{\theta}-\overline{\theta}\underline{1}{\parallel}$ with $\overline{\theta}=\frac{1}{p}\sum\limits_{i=1}^{n}{\theta}_i$ and $\underline{1}=(1,{\cdots},1)^{\prime}$ is known.

일반적으로 믿음의 일차적 기능은 세계에 대한 객관적 정보를 파악하는 것이라고 이해되고 있다. 따라서 믿음의 내용은 원칙적으로 인간이 임의적으로 조작하거나 만들어낼 수 없다. 세계의 참된 모습을 추구하고 세계를 올바로 표상하는 것이 믿음의 가장 중요한 과제이다. 윌리엄 제임스는 "믿으려는 의지"에서 믿음에 대한 이러한 일반적 이해에 정면으로 도전하는 주장을 펼친다. 그에 의하면 믿음은 우리가 자의적으로 선택할 수 있는 것이다. 제임스는 자신의 주장을 펼치기 위한 수단으로 클리포드의 "믿음의 윤리"를 집중적으로 비판한다. 이 논문은 두 사람의 주장을 비교, 분석하고 어느 쪽이 더 설득력이 있는지 평가한다.

This study set out to analyze James Turrell's Skyspace works by applying the object relations theory, compare them with several modern architectural works with a sky window based on the analysis results, and check common and differentiating features between them. The findings were as follows: first, Turrell's Skyspace works shed new light on the images of the sky by projecting inner light to the outside; second, sky windows in architecture make the self-representation of inner space clear through the introjection of light; third, 'Hill of the Buddha' reflects the most general aspect of the object relations theory as the nature of projection found in Turrell's Skyspace is added to it; and finally, Turrell installed event-like spaces and steps in 'Roden Crater' to apply the introjection of others that was deficient in Skyspace.

The multicollinearity problem in a multiple linear regression model may present deleterious effects on predictions. Thus, its is desirable to consider the optimal fractions with respect to the unbiased estimate of the mean squares errors of the predicted values. Interstingly, the optimal fractions can be also illuminated by the Bayesian inerpretation of the general James-Stein estimators.
