  • The social demand of manipulative therapy has increased. but the concept, terminology, classification and system of manipulative therapy is unclear. Therefore, academic organization on manipulative therapy is needed. The aim of this study is overview the evolution of manipulative therapy and based on this, we will find out how manipulative therapy is studied in South Korea. Manipulative therapy reflects medical knowledge and trends at the time. Historically people who work as key roles in evolution of manupulative therapy are Hippocrates, Claudius Galen, Acicenna(Ibn Sīnā), Ambroise Paré, Andreas Vesalius, Pehr Henrik Ling, Florence Nightingale, Andrew Taylor Still, Daniel David Palmer, James Beaver Mennell, James Henry Cyriax, Robin Mckenzie, Freddy Kaltenborn, Brian R Mulligan, George Goodheart, Mikao Usui, Wilhelm Reich, Ida Rolf. As the result of articles search, Massage, Chiropractics, acupressure(acupuncture), Chuna, osteopathy, reflexology, CST, Mulligan techniques, Dongbang whalbub, Kaltenborn-Evjenth orthopedic manual therapy are major subject that studied in South Korea.

  • In this paper, we propose a representation method of emotions in RIDE(Robot Intelligence with Digital Emotion) project. The method used in RIDE not only represents the emotional state in James-Lange Theory but also represents that of the Cannon-Bard Theory. Furthermore, our method allow the memorization of an emotion so as to process the self-inflicting emotion mentioned in the Schafter-Singer Theory. We also allow the similarity and differences in the characteristics by compaing of two emotions.

  • Surface phytoplankton biomass was measured at approxinately one month intervals from July 1986 to August 1987. There was a peak phytoplankton biomass in the very low salinity region during summer and autumn when river discharge was low. The peak biomass occurred independent of the tidal state, location of nutrient input, nutrient concentration and temperature. The peak biomass are probably caused by the hydrodynamic trapping, density-seletive retention of particles by esturarine circulation.

  • In the simple linear regression model Y = .alpha.$_{0}$ + .beta.$_{0}$Z + .epsilon. under the right censorship of the response variables, the estimation of the mean lifetime E(Y) is an interesting problem. In this paper we propose a method of estimating E(Y) based on the observations modified by the arguments of Buckley and James (1979). It is shown that the proposed estimator is consistent and our proposed procedure in the simple linear regression case can be naturally extended to the multiple linear regression. Finally, we perform simulation studies to compare the proposed estimator with the estimator introduced by Gill (1983).83).

  • James C. Maxwell published a paper titled "On Governors" in the Proceedings of the Royal Society of London in 1868. However, this paper was ignored for about 80 years due to unreadability of the paper itself. In 1948, Norbert Wiener revived this paper and identified it as the first significant control theory paper, which gave Maxwell his due as the first contributor to this theory. The purpose of this article is to provide historical information on the origin of stability analysis through Maxwell's paper, and to revisit the key idea of the paper in view of the present stability theory with clear explanations. This article includes a proof and some illustrative figures of governors that were not shown in the original publication.

  • Consider the problem of estimating a $p{\times}1$ mean vector ${\theta}$ (p ${\geq}$ 3) under the quadratic loss from multi-variate normal population. We find a James-Stein type estimator which shrinks towards the projection vectors when the underlying distribution is that of a variance mixture of normals. In this case, the norm ${\parallel}{\theta}-K{\theta}{\parallel}$ is known where K is a projection vector with rank(K) = q. The class of this type estimator is quite general to include the class of the estimators proposed by Merchand and Giri (1993). We can derive the class and obtain the optimal type estimator. Also, this research can be applied to the simple and multiple regression model in the case of rank(K) ${\geq}2$.
