An Integrated Inventory Model for Multi-Product and its Raw Materials in Just-In-Time Purchasing (JIT구매 하에서 원자재를 고려한 다품목의 통합재고모형에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we consider an inventory system where a single supplier purchases and processes raw materials into finished goods in order to deliver finished goods to a single buyer for effective implementation of Just-In-Time Purchasing. An integrated multi-item lot-splitting model of facilitating multiple shipments in small lots between buyer and supplier is developed in a JIT Purchasing environment. Also, an iterative solution procedure is developed to find the order quantity for finished goods and raw materials, and number of shipments between buyer and supplier. We show by numerical example that when the integrated policy is adopted by both buyer and supplier in a cooperative manner, both parties can benefit.

  • In this paper, we analyze the inventory and inspect cost of small-to-medium-sized enterprises which are getting orders from large enterprises using JIT(just in time) system. So far, we have not found the good inventory and inspect cost formula for the small-to-medium-sized enterprises. In this paper, we first survey the inventory and inspect strategy and cost formula of the small-to-medium-sized enterprises in this country. We are trying to mathematical modelling of several cases depending on the inventory and inspect strategy of large enterprises. We suggest inventory and inspect several cost formula by using the method minimizing the total cost of the small-to-medium-sized enterprises. We also give some numerical examples for your understanding.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose guidelines for Introducing the JIT(Just-In-Time) purchasing to enhance the competitiveness of Korean manufacturing companies. This study employed an extensive survey on the use of the JIT purchasing systems among different Korean manufacturing companies to understand the current status of the JIT purchasing in use and to identify the benefits from implementing JIT purchasing. The survey has covered 163 manufacturing companies of different sizes from various sectors of Korean industries including electronics, automobiles, machineries, and textiles. The research results support that the JIT purchasing would contribute to increase the purchasing performances of Korean manufacturing companies.

  • Concentric mosaics are made with arranging and summing of video frames by using common spacial standards. Compared with previous works on 3-D wavelet transform coding, we have made important design considerations to enable flexible partial decoding and bit-stream random access. A just-in-time(JIT) rendering engine of the compressed concentric mosaic is developed. However, computationally, it is still demanding to accomplish the real-time rendering. Only the contents for specific scene representation are need to be decoded by maintaining compressed data. Thus our proposed algorithm is able to render real concentric mosaic by using lifting scheme instead of wavelet transform.

  • JIT manufacturing requires that materials and services should be done neither too early nor tardy. Therefore, related jobs have to be performed just-in-time. In this paper, we consider a problem of determining a schedule of jobs with a common due date. The objective is to minimize the squared deviation of complete times from the due date. An artificial neural network which is based on the mean field theory is proposed for the problem. Computational results obtained from computer simulations show that the network performs very well.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose guidelines for introducing the Just-In-Time (JIT) production system to enhance the competitiveness of Korean manufacturing companies. This study employed an extensive survey on the use of the JIT production systems among different korean manufacturing companies to understand the current status of the JIT production system in use and to identify the benefits from implementing JIT production system. The survey has covered 170 manufacturing companies of different sizes from various sectors of Korean industries including electronics, automobiles, machineries, and textiles. In conclusion, our research results support that the JIT production system would contribute to increase the manufacturing performances of Korean manufacturing companies through lower inventory level and increased quality level.

Lightweight Loop Invariant Code Motion for Java Just-In-Time Compiler on Itanium (Itanium상의 자바 적시 컴파일러를 위한 가벼운 루프 불변 코드 이동)

  • Loop invariant code motion (LICM) optimization includes relatively heavy code analyses, thus being not readily applicable to Java Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation where the JIT compilation time is part of the whole running time. 'Classical' LICM optimization first analyzes the code and constructs both the def-use chains and the use-def chains. which are then used for performing code motions. This paper proposes a light-weight LICM algorithm, which requires only the def-use chains of loop invariant code (without use-def chains) by exploiting the fact that the Java virtual machine is based on a stack machine, hence generating code with simpler patterns. We also propose two techniques that allow more code motions than classical LICM techniques. First, unlike previous JIT techniques that uses LICM only in single-path loops for simplicity, we apply LICM to multi-path loops (natural loops) safely for partially redundant code. Secondly, we move loop-invariant, partially-redundant null pointer check code via predication support in Itanium. The proposed techniques were implemented in a JIT compiler for Itanium processor on ORP (Open Runtime Platform) Java virtual machine of Intel. On SPECjvrn98 benchmarks, the proposed technique increases the JIT compilation overhead by the geometric mean of 1.3%, yet it improves the total running time by the geometric mean of 2.2%.

  • In an effort to become more competitive and cost efficient many companies have shifted from traditional job-shop production to production using group technology (GT) and cell manufacturing (CM). Cellular manufacturing is critical to implementing Just-in-Time (JIT) production which pointed out in the previous articles. and adopt the U-shaped cell which allows for entry at one end of the U and exist at the other. This paper looks at the availability of cellular manufacturing, by applying those concepts to the small and medium sized industry.

  • Supply chains for agricultural commodities with their various constraints such as production lead time, seasonal production, and methods of storage are limited in the extent to which techniques like Just-in-Time (JIT) inventory management can be applied. It is beyond the ability of producers to control harvest time and many agricultural products are perishable so that they can incur exceptional losses in storage if they are not handled correctly. This is a source of additional costs and inefficiency in supply chain management. The purpose of this study is to reduce or eliminate such sources of loss and inefficiency and to identify success factors for the JIT inventory management system where it can be applied for agricultural products. Where ]IT techniques can be applied in supply chain management for agricultural products, costs such as transportation, inventory, and storage losses can be reduced with concurrent increases in efficiency. In the paper, some of the problems associated with applying ]IT inventory control methods in supply chain management for agricultural commodities will be reported through a series of case studies.
