Variation of Support Conditions under JCP Slabs due to Temperature Gradient (온도구배로 인한 줄눈 콘크리트포장 슬래브의 지지조건 변화)

  • The concrete slab on the foundation may have curling and warping deformations due to temperature gradient of its section. These deformations may change the support conditions of concrete slabs, and cause higher level of stresses tan expected. In this study, partial support conditions de to several temperature gradients are evaluated using FE analysis. Expecially, 3D FE model is adopted to evaluate the partial contact between the slab and the base which is hard to be simulated in 2D FE models. The discrepancies of analysis results increase at high temperature gradients. And it is concluded that 3D FE model can be used to simulate real support and temperature conditions.

RNA Binding Protein as an Emerging Therapeutic Target for Cancer Prevention and Treatment

  • After transcription, RNAs are always associated with RNA binding proteins (RBPs) to perform biological activities. RBPs can interact with target RNAs in sequence- and structure-dependent manner through their unique RNA binding domains. In development and progression of carcinogenesis, RBPs are aberrantly dysregulated in many human cancers with various mechanisms, such as genetic alteration, epigenetic change, noncoding RNA-mediated regulation, and post-translational modifications. Upon deregulation in cancers, RBPs influence every step in the development and progression of cancer, including sustained cell proliferation, evasion of apoptosis, avoiding immune surveillance, inducing angiogenesis, and activating metastasis. To develop therapeutic strategies targeting RBPs, RNA interference-based oligonucleotides or small molecule inhibitors have been screened based on reduced RBP-RNA interaction and changed level of target RNAs. Identification of binding RNAs with high-throughput techniques and integral analysis of multiple datasets will help us develop new therapeutic drugs or prognostic biomarkers for human cancers.

  • Imbalance of protein homeostasis (proteostasis) is known to cause cellular malfunction, cell death, and diseases. Elaborate regulation of protein synthesis and degradation is one of the important processes in maintaining normal cellular functions. Protein degradation pathways in eukaryotes are largely divided into proteasome-mediated degradation and lysosome-mediated degradation. Proteasome is a multisubunit complex that selectively degrades 80% to 90% of cellular proteins. Proteasome-mediated degradation can be divided into 26S proteasome (20S proteasome + 19S regulatory particle) and free 20S proteasome degradation. In 1980, it was discovered that during ubiquitination process, wherein ubiquitin binds to a substrate protein in an ATP-dependent manner, ubiquitin acts as a degrading signal to degrade the substrate protein via proteasome. Conversely, 20S proteasome degrades the substrate protein without using ATP or ubiquitin because it recognizes the oxidized and structurally modified hydrophobic patch of the substrate protein. To date, most studies have focused on protein degradation via 26S proteasome. This review describes the 26S/20S proteasomal pathway of protein degradation and discusses the potential of proteasome as therapeutic targets for cancer treatment as well as against diseases caused by abnormalities in the proteolytic system.

The Role of Tripartite Motif Family Proteins in TGF-β Signaling Pathway and Cancer

  • $TGF-{\beta}$ signaling plays a tumor suppressive role in normal and premalignant cells but promotes tumor progression during the late stages of tumor development. The $TGF-{\beta}$ signaling pathway is tightly regulated at various levels, including transcriptional and post-translational mechanisms. Ubiquitination of signaling components, such as receptors and Smad proteins is one of the key regulatory mechanisms of $TGF-{\beta}$ signaling. Tripartite motif (TRIM) family of proteins is a highly conserved group of E3 ubiquitin ligase proteins that have been implicated in a variety of cellular functions, including cell growth, differentiation, immune response, and carcinogenesis. Recent emerging studies have shown that some TRIM family proteins function as important regulators in tumor initiation and progression. This review summarizes current knowledge of TRIM family proteins regulating the $TGF-{\beta}$ signaling pathway with relevance to cancer.

Development of Evaluation Method for Jointed Concrete Pavement with FWD and Finite Element Analysis (FWD와 유한요소해석을 이용한 줄눈콘크리트포장 평가법 개발)

  • The joints in the jointed concrete pavement provide a control against transverse or longitudinal cracking at slab, which may be caused by temperature or moisture variation during or after hydration. Without control of cracking, random cracks cause more serious distresses and result in structural or functional failure of pavement system. However, joints nay cause distresses due to its inherent weakness in structural integrity. Thus, the evaluation at joint is very important. and the joint-related distresses should be evaluated reasonably for economic rehabilitation. The purpose of this paper was to develop an evaluation system at joints of jointed concrete pavement using finite element analysis program, ILLI-SLAB, and nondestructive testing device. FWD. To develop an evaluation system for JCP, a sensitivity analysis was performed using ILLI-SLAB program with a selected variables which might affect fairly to on the performance of transverse joints. The most significant variables were selected from precise analysis. An evaluation charts were made for jointed concrete pavement by adopting the field FWD data. It was concluded that the variables which most significantly affect to pavement deflections are the modulus of subgrade reaction(K) and the modulus of dowel/concrete interaction(G), and limiting criteria on the performance of joints at JCP are 300pci. 500,000 lb/in. respectively. Using these variables and FWD test, a charts of load transfer ratio versus surface deflection at joints were made in order to evaluate the performance of JCP. Practically, Chungbu highway was evaluated by these evaluation charts and FWD field data for jointed concrete pavement. For Chungbu highway, only one joint showed smaller value than limiting criterion of the modulus of dowel/concrete interaction(G). The rest joints showed larger values than limiting criteria of the modulus of subgrade reaction(K) and the modulus of dowel/concrete interaction(G).

Comparison of Clinical Characteristics among Anxiety Disorder, Depressive Disorder, and Co-morbid of Anxiety Disorder and Depressive Disorder with MMPI-2-RF (MMPI-2-RF로 살펴본 불안장애, 우울장애, 불안장애와 우울장애 공병 환자군의 임상적 특성)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to explore comparison of clinical characteristics among Anxiety disorder, Depressive disorder, and Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder. Methods : Since January, 2017 to May, 2019, patients were recruited from the department of psychiatry of Hanyang University Guri Hospital. Participants were diagnosed Anxiety disorder, Depressive disorder, and Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder using DSM-5 criteria by board certified psychiatrists or clinical psychologists. And each of participants tested with MMPI-2 and clinical psychologists were converted MMPI-2 to MMPI-2-RF. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. Results : The results indicated EID, RC2, HLP, SAV, and INTR-r were the highest in Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder group. And BXD, RC4, JCP, and AGGR-r were the highest in Depressive disorder group. Conclusions : The results indicated that Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder group were more severe internalizing dysfunction like lower positive emotion, helplessness, social avoidance and discomfort than single-diagnosed group. Single Depressive disorder group were more serious externalizing dysfunction like anger and aggression than single Anxiety disorder and Co-morbid of Anxiety disorder and Depressive disorder. The implications and limitations were discussed.

Early Age Behavior of Thin Bonded Continuously Reinforced Concrete Overlay on Aged Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (노후 줄눈 콘크리트 포장 보수를 위한 얇은 연속 철근 콘크리트 덧씌우기 포장의 초기거동 평가)

  • Thin bonded continuously reinforced concrete overlay(CRCO) was constructed on He existing jointed plain concrete pavement(HCP) surface at Seo-Hae-Ahn express highway in South Korea in order to evaluate its applicability and performance. Two sections of road were considered for this evaluation. In the first section, the concrete overlayer was placed and cut down to the existing layer to form transverse joints while CRCO was constructed on top of the existing layer in the second section. Early strength concrete(Type III) was utilized for both overlay sections. The depth of milling and the thickness of overlaid layer were 5 cm and 10 cm, respectively. Several vibrating wire gauges(VWG) were installed to evaluate the performance of CRCO with respect to curling, delamination, and crack propagation. As a result of the strength test, it was found that strength of the material reaches the design criteria within 1-3 days. Analysis with vibrating wire gauge(VWG) showed CRCO effectively restricts joint movement. High adhesive strength also was observed from the material regardless of length of aging. Meanwhile, transverse cracks were observed on the middle of the section where JPCP overlay was applied whereas arbitrarily cracks in transverse direction were observed on the section where CRCP was applied.

Numerical Analysis off-Shape Cracking in Jointed Concrete Pavements (줄눈콘크리트 포장의 T형 균열 발생 원인 수치 해석)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the causes that induce the T-shape cracks at the joints in the jointed concrete pavements(JCPs). The finite element models of JCP including dowel bars were developed and the stress distribution in the slab was investigated under environmental loads. To investigate the effect of dowel bars on the transverse stresses at the joints that induce the T-shape cracks, the slab curling behavior was analyzed with and without dowel bars. In addition, the stress concentration was investigated when the dowel bar was not installed at the mid-depth of the slab. The results of this study showed that the transverse stresses were not affected by the dowel bars if the dowel bars were installed at the mid-depth of the slab. However, if the dowel bars were not installed at the mid-depth, the transverse stresses were concentrated at the dowel bar locations when the slab curled. The stress concentration was dependent on the contact characteristics between the dowel bar and concrete, and was significantly large when the dowel bar not installed at the mid-depth was located far from the edge of the slab. Therefore, to mitigate T-shape cracking in JCP, dowel bars should be very carefully installed and leveled at the proper locations.

Behavior Evaluation of Thin Bonded Continuously Reinforced Concrete Overlay on Aged Jointed Concrete Pavement(2) (노후 줄눈 콘크리트 포장 보수를 위한 얇은 연속 철근 콘크리트 덧씌우기 포장의 거동 평가(2))

  • In this paper, it has been studied about the CRCO to maintain or rehabilitate the aged JCP. The CRCO and JCO was constructed at useless section of Seo-Hae-Ahn express highway in South Korea. The performance evaluation was conducted. Especially, it was focused on the roll of longitudinal reinforced steels inserted into the CRCO. On crack survey results from field construction section, the reflection cracks at joint of the existing pavement occurred in CRCO. However, due to the constraints of longitudinal reinforced steels, crack width was small. Total crack length and quantity in the CRCO more than that in the JCO. And crack spacing in the CRCO was narrower than it in the CRCP. Through the bonding strength test results, if the cold milling and cleaning as well as surface treatment is applied, there will be no debonding problem at interlayer in the early age. From analysis of the horizontal behavior at the joint, the longitudinal reinforced steels constrained crack width which became wider than initial state over time. Also, that steel in the CRCO reduced the horizontal movement due to temperature variation(4 times than that in the JCO). But, if interface is debonded, the roll decreased. Vertical VWG data showed that CRCO did not occur debonding problem at steel location, but there was some problem in JCO. It was confirmed by field coring. The tensile strain appeared in the CRCO, But the compressive strain occurred in the JCO in early age. Through the FWD test result, deflection in the CRCO was less than that in the JCO. And K value in the CRCO was greater than it in the JCO.

Sometimes, joint itself, purposed to control crack, may cause a distresses in joint due to its inherent weakness in structural integrity. Thus, the load transfer capacity in joint is very important for serviceability and durability. The purpose of this dissertation was to develop an evaluation system at joints of jointed concrete pavement using finite element analysis was performed using ILLI-SLAB program with a selected variables which might affect fairly to on the performance of transverse joints. The most significant variables were selected from precise analysis. It was concluded that the variables which most significantly affect to pavement deflections are the modulus of subgrade reaction(K) and the modulus of dowel/concrete interaction(G), and limiting criteria on the performance of joints at JCP at 300pci, 500,000 lb/in. respectively.
