Xenorhabdus nematophilus Kor-Al was cultured at flask and 5L jar fermentor at $28^{\circ}C$, 5% YS media condition. Antibiotic activity for X. nematophilus Kor-Al was experimented by paper disk method. As the result, antibiotic activity was growth associated form during culture time of X. nematophilus Kor-Al at flask. The maximum production and antibiotic activity were obtained at stationary period of cell growth. The optimum conditions of cell growth and antibiotic production at 5L jar fermentor were 400rpm agitation and 50% DO conditions.

Yellow pigment of Gardenia jasminoides was converted into new pigment by whole-cell biotransformation of thirteen different microbial species. The color value of the biotransformed pigment, which was produced by Streptococcus mutans MK-34, was higher than those of other biotransformed pigments. The biotransformed pigment produced by S. mutans MK-34 dispalyed an characteristic absorption peak at 588 nm and the absorption value increased during the incubation in a jar fermentor. The effects of light and temperature $(60^{\circ}C)$ on storage stability of the biotransformed pigment were investigated. As a result, the biotransformed pigments produced by Streptococcus mutans and Bacillus subtilis were more stable than Gardenia jasminoides yellow pigment during storage.

The characteristics of cell growth and cellulose production by Acetobcter xylinum BRC5 were studied in shaking flasks and jar fermentors. Of the substrates tested, the highest cellulose yield was obtained from the fructose medium. Some inductive cultivation was observed and then cellulose was produced with cell growth. When glucose alone or mixture of glucose and fructose was used as the carbon source, cellulose could be biosynthesized under the glucose limitation. Corn steep liquor (CSL), as a low-cost nitrogen source, was a good substitute for yeast extract. In a jar fermentor experiment, 4.14 g/l of disintegrated cellulose was obtained from 8% CSL- medium containing 0.5% glucose and 1.5% fructose.
This cDNAs were cloned with the method of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by sequences based on cloned rat LH/CG and FSH receptor cDNAs. A cDNAs of LHR and FSHR were transfected into the CHO cells. Several clonal cell lines were obtained expressing different numbers of cell surface receptors. (omitted)

The optimal temperature, pH and aeration rate for spore production by Bacillus polyfermenticus SCD in 500 ml shake flask and 5-1 jar fermenter were found to be $32^{\circ}C$, 7.0 and 1.0 vvm. respectively. When batch culture processes was performed under optimized culture conditions. viable cells were $3.3{\times}10^{10}$ CFU/ml and spore cells were $3.3{\times}10^{10}$ CFU/ml. Fed-batch culture processes were also examined with regard to higer maximum viable cell and spore production. The highe viable cells and spores were obtained in 5-1 jar fermenter at 72 h cultivation time by strategy in an intermediate feeding mode with 60% glucose solution 150 ml and 5% soybean flour solution 150 ml fed to the fermenter twice, and the productivity of spore cells was significantly increased. Finally. volumetric productivity of spore cells on fed-batch culture indicated $9.9{\times}10^8$ CFU/ml/h, which was approximately 2 times higher than batch culture. Thus, fed-batch culture show a promise as an industrial production method.
A Saccharomyces cerevisiae isolated from a feed additive yeast product was cultivated in a Korean paper digestion wastewater in order to investigate the possibility of using it as substrate for the yeast. The yeast couldn't grow in the wastewater. It could grow in the wastewater diluted and the optimum dilution rate was 7.5 In batch cultivation with the jar fermenter the maximum total cell count was $1.34{\times}107/mL$ was obtained by the addition of undiluted digestion wastewater. By adding $(NH_4)_2S0_4 and KH_2P0_4$together with the undiluted wastewater the maximum cell concentration could be obtained faster.
It has been shown that the initial conditions of bacterial cultivation are extremely important for the successful production of hyaluronic acid (HA) by fermentation. We investigated several parameters that affect cell growth rate and the productivity and molecular weight of hyaluronic acid--i.e., agitation speed, aeration rate, culture temperature, pH, and pressure--to determine how to optimize the production of HA by Streptococcus zooepidemicus on an industrial scale. Using a 30-1 jar fermentor under laboratory conditions, we achieved maximum HA productivity and biomass when the agitation speed and aeration rate were increased simultaneously. By shifting the temperature downward from 35$^{\circ}C$ to 32$^{\circ}C$ at key levels of cell growth during the fermentation process, we were able to obtain HA with a molecular weight of $2.8{\times}10^6$ at a productivity of 5.3 g/l. Moreover, we reproduced these optimized conditions successfully in three 30-1 jar fermentors. By reproducing these conditions in a 3-$m^3$ fermentor, we were able to produce HA with a molecular weight of $2.9{\times}10^6$ at a productivity of 5.4 g/l under large-scale conditions.
Saccharide utilizations for the growth by Bifidobacterium longum and Bifidobacterium breve were compared. B. longum fermented glucose more rapidly than lactose as a carbon source whereas B. breve fermented lactose at a rate higher than that of glucose. The highest cell concentration, in the case of B. longum, was obtained when cultivated in a jar fermentor that contained modified MRS medium that half the beef extract was replaced by the same amount of tuna extract, and that pH was controlled at 6.0. B. breve showed the best growth when grown in a jar fermentor containing the MRS medium with lactose instead of glucose, controlled at pH 6.0. The optimal concentration of peptone in MRS medium for the growth of B. breve was 5 g/l.
The resting cells of Candida sp. SY16 produced a large amount of mannosylerythritol lipid as a biosurfactant when incubated in the distilled water containing only the carbon source. The resting cells exhibited the highest production at 20 g cells per liter on the soybean oil of 75 g/1 as a sole substrate and pH 4∼5 in the shaking culture. Under the optimal conditions, the biosurfactant was extracellularly produced to 58 g/1 after 120 h in jar fermentor, and the yield became higher than that obtained by using the glowing cells of the strain in batch fermentation.
For the production of single cell protein from n-paraffin, yeasts utilizing n-paraffin and ethanol were isolated from oil deposit and oil field soils. The mixed cultivation between yeasts assimilating n-paraffin and ethanol was carried out to increase cell yield. Finally, selected strains were identified and suitable medium composition for mixed culture was compared with that of single cultures using flask and 5 l-jar fermentor. Yeasts grow on n-paraffin and ethanol were identified as Candida tropicalis var. KIST 76 and Trichosporon cutaneum KIST 76H respectively. By mixed cultivation under the suitable medium composition using 5 l-jar fermentor, maximum dry cell weight reached 20 g/l after 12 hrs. cultivation and it's protein content was 58%. Yield has been increased about 25% and protein content has been increased 6.7% compared to that of single culture, Candida tropicalis var. KIST 76, after 16 hrs. cultivation.
