  • We have mapped $1 deg^2$ region toward a high latitude HII region S73 (l, b) = ($37^{\circ}.69$, $44^{\circ}.55$) and associated molecular cloud in $^{12}CO$ J = 1 - 0, and $^{13}CO$ J = 1 - 0, using the 3 mm SIS receiver on the 14 m telescope at Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. A high resolution autocorrelator is used to resolve extremely narrow CO linewidths (FWHP < 1 km/s) of the molecular cloud. Though the linewidths are very narrow, it is found that there is systematic velocity gradient in the molecular gas associated with the H II region. Both of $^{12}CO$ and $^{13}CO$ averaged spectra are non-gaussian, and there are obvious blue wings in the spectra. It is remarkable that the linewidths at the blueshifted region are broader than those of the rest of the cloud. The CO emission does match well with the dust emission.

  • Fracture energy values KV have been measured on cast steel, used in the container manufacture, by instrumented Charpy impact testing. This material has a large ductility on the upper transition region at $+20^{\circ}C$ and a ductile tearing with an expended plasticity before a brittle fracture on the lower transition region at $-20^{\circ}C$. To assess the fracture toughness of this material we use, the $K_{IC}$-KV correlations to measure the critical stress intensity factor $K_{IC}$ on the lower transition region and the dynamic force - displacement curves to measure the critical fracture toughness $J{\rho}_C$, the essential work of fracture ${\Gamma}_e$ on the upper transition region. It is found, using the $K_{IC}$-KV correlations, that the critical stress intensity factor $K_{IC}$ remains significant, on the lower transition region, which indicating that our testing material preserves his ductility at low temperature and it is apt to be used as a container's material. It is, also, found that the $J_{\rho}-{\rho}$ energetic criterion, used on the upper transition region, gives a good evaluation of the fracture toughness closest to those found in the literature. Finally, we show, by using the ${\Gamma}_e-K_{IC}$ relation, on the lower transition region, that the essential work of fracture is not suitable for the toughness measurement because the strong scatter of the experimental data. To complete this study by a numerical approach we used the ANSYS code to determine the critical fracture toughness $J_{ANSYS}$ on the upper transition region.

  • Human Tid1, belonging to the family of the Hsp40/DnaJ, functions as a co-chaperone of cytosolic and mitochondrial Hsp70 proteins. In addition, the conserved J-domain and G/F-rich region of Tid1 has been suggested to interact with the p53 tumor suppressor protein, to translocate it to the mitochondria. Here, backbone NMR assignments were achieved for the putative p53-binding domain of Tid1. The obtained chemical shift information identified five ${\alpha}$-helices including four helices characteristic of J-domain, which are connected to a short ${\alpha}$-helix in the G/F-rich region via a flexible loop region. We expect that this structural information would contribute to our progressing studies to elucidate atomic structure and molecular interaction of the domain with p53.

  • While some observations in the geomagnetic tail region supported electrons could be accelerated by reconnection processes, we still need more observation data to confirm electron acceleration in this region. Because most acceleration processes accompany strong pitch angle diffusion, if the electrons were accelerated in this region, strong energetic electron precipitation should be observed near earth on aurora oval. Even though there are several low altitude satellites observing electron precipitation, intense and small scale precipitation events have not been identified successfully. In this presentation, we will show an observation of strong energetic electron precipitation that might be analyzed by relativistic electron acceleration in the confined region. This event was observed by low altitude Korean STSAT-1, where intense several hundred keV electron precipitation was seen simultaneously with 10 keV electrons during storm time. In addition, we observed large magnetic field fluctuations and an ionospheric plasma depletion with FUV aurora emissions. Our observation implies relativistic electrons can be generated in the small area where Fermi acceleration might work.

  • The surface region of a sheet metal may have different characteristics from the inner region because the surface region is less restricted than the interior. In addition, the grains on the free surface are less hardened because of surface adsorption of the dislocations, rather than piling up. In the case of bulk or thick sheet metals, this effect is negligible because the fraction of the surface region is much smaller than that of the inner region. However, this surface effect is important in the case of ultra-thin sheet metals. In order to evaluate the surface effect, tensile and bending tests were performed for the SS304 stainless steel with a thickness of 0.39 mm. The bending force predicted using the tensile behavior is higher than the measurement because of the surface effect. To account for the surface effect, the surface layer model was developed by dividing the sheet section into surface and inner layers. The mechanical behaviors of the two regions were calibrated using the tensile and bending properties. The surface layer model reproduced the bending behavior of the ultra-thin sheet metal.

Korean Journal of Sport Biomechanics, Vol. 15, No. 1, pp. 75-89, 2005. In this study, weight carrying pattern analysis and comparison method of four foot region were suggested. We used three types of club(driver, iron7, pitching wedge). This analysis method can compare between top class golfer and beginner. And the comparison data can be used to correct the swing pose of trainee. If motion analysis system, which can measure the swing speed and instantaneous acceleration at the point of hitting a ball, is combined with this plantar foot force analysis method, new design development of golf shoes to increase comfort and ball flight distance will be available. 1. Address acting, forces concentrated in rare foot regions and lateral foot of right foot. Back swing top acting, relatively high force occurred in medial forefoot region of left foot and forefoot region of right foot. Impact acting, high force value observed in the lateral rarefoot region of left foot and medial forefoot region of right foot. Finish acting, force concentration observed on the lateral region and rarefoot region of left foot. 2. Forces were increased in address of right foot with clubs length increased. All clubs, back swing top acting, high force value observed in the lateral forefoot region of right foot. All clubs, in impact, high force value observed in the lateral rarefoot region of left foot and medial forefoot region of right foot. Finish acting, force concentration observed on the rarefoot region in driver and lateral foot region in iron on left foot. 3. • Fracture toughness JIC and KIC tests were performed on A516 Gr70 carbon steel plate at the temperature ranging from -$160^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$, and test results were analyzed according to ASTM E 813 and ASTM E 399. Unloading compliance J-integral tests were performed on 1TCT specimens. The relation between the $J_{IC}$ value and the test temperature was obtained. It was concluded that the temperature ranging from $-15^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$ is the upper shelf region of ductile-brittle transition temperature, and in this temperature range, fracture toughness $J_{IC}$ values decreased with increasing temperature. The ductile brittle transition temperature of the material may be around $-30^{\circ}C$. In the region near $-30^{\circ}C$, the tendency of $J_{IC}$ to decrease with decreasing temperature was significant.

  • The freezing phenomenon of saturated water with the supercooled region in a horizontal circular cylinder has been studied experimentally by using the holographic real time interferometry technique. From the experiments, it was found that there were three types of freezing patterns. The first is the annular ice layer growing from the cylinder surface at a high cooling rate; the next is the asymmetric ice layer at a moderate cooling rate; and the last is the instantaneous ice layer growth over the full region at lower cooling rate. As the water was coolde from room temperature to the subfreezing point passing through the density inversion point, the freezing pattern was largely affected by the inversion phenomenon, which had much effected the free convection and was susceptible to influences from the cooling rate. When the cooling rate is high, supercooling energy is released before the water is sufficientry mixed by free convection. On the other hand, when the cooling rate is low, there is much time for the water to be mixed by free convection. This seems to be the reason why the different ice layer growths occur.

  • We have observed the emission of $HC_3N$ J=4-3, 5-4,10-9 and 12-11 transitions toward the Sgr B2 central region in an area of $150'\times150'$ with resolutions of 16'-48'. The intensities and central velocities of line profiles show significant variations with positions. In contrast to the intensities of the low J-level transitions which gradually increase from the central source toward the outside region, the $HC_3N$ emission of the high J-level transition become stronger toward 'the central radio continuum source MD5. Systematic change in the radial velocity of each line profile occurs along north-south direction. There are a few peaks in most line profiles, and these indicate that there are multiple velocity components along the line of sight. Distributions of excitation temperature and column density which were estimated from the excitation calculations show the existence of a small $(1\times2pc),\;hot\;(T_{ex}>50K)$ core which contains two temperature peaks at-15' east and north of MD5. The column density of $HC_3N\;is\;(1-3)\times10^{14}cm^{-2}$ Column density at distant position from MD5 is larger than that in the central region. We have deduced that this 'hot-core' has a mass of 105M 0, which is about an order of magnitude larger than those obtained by previous studies.
