  • In this paper, we optimize antenna locations for a distributed antenna system (DAS) with distributed antenna (DA) ports equipped with multiple antennas under per-DA port power constraint. Maximum ratio transmission and scaled zero-forcing beamforming are employed for single-user and multi-user DAS, respectively. Instead of maximizing the cell average ergodic sum rate, we focus on a lower bound of the expected signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the single-cell scenario and the expected signal-to-leakage ratio (SLR) for the two-cell scenario to determine antenna locations. For the single-cell case, optimization of the SNR criterion generates a closed form solution in comparison to conventional iterative algorithms. Also, a gradient ascent algorithm is proposed to solve the SLR criterion for the two-cell scenario. Simulation results show that DAS with antenna locations obtained from the proposed algorithms achieve capacity gains over traditional centralized antenna systems.

  • Several wireless localization algorithms are evaluated for the IR-UWB-based indoor location with the assumption that the ranging measurements contain the channelwise Non-Calibration Error (NCE). The localization algorithms can be divided into the Model-free Localization (MfL) methods and Model-based Kalman Filtering (MbKF). The algorithms covered in this paper include Iterative Least Squares (ILS), Direct Solution (DS), Difference of Squared Ranging Measurements (DSRM), and ILS-Common (ILS-C) methods for the MfL methods, and Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), EKF-Each Channel (EKF-EC), EKF-C, Cubature Kalman Filter (CKF), and CKF-C for the MbKF. Experimental results show that the DSRM method has better accuracy than the other MfL methods. Also, it demands smallest computation time. On the other hand, the EKF-C and CKF-C require some more computation time than the DSRM method. The accuracy of the EKF-C and CKF-C is, however, best among the 9 methods. When comparing the EKF-C and CKF-C, the CKF-C can be easily used. Finally, it is concluded that the CKF-C can be widely used because of its ease of use as well as it accuracy.

  • Most existing studies on broadcast services in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems have focused on how to allocate the transmission power to the subcarriers. However, because a broadcasting system must guarantee quality of service to all users, the performance of the broadcast service dominantly depends on the channel state of the user who has the lowest received signal-to-noise ratio among users. To reduce the effect of the worst user on the system performance, we propose a joint delivery scheme of unicast and broadcast transmissions in OFDM systems with broadcast and unicast best-effort users. In the proposed joint delivery scheme, the BS delivers the broadcast information using both the broadcast and unicast subcarriers at the same time in order to improve the performance of the broadcast service. The object of the proposed scheme is to minimize the outage probability of the broadcast service while maximizing the sum-rate of best-effort users. For the proposed joint delivery scheme, we develop an adaptive power and subcarrier allocation algorithm under the constraint of total transmission power. This paper shows that the optimal power allocation over each subcarrier in the proposed scheme has a multi-level water filling form. Because the power allocation and the subcarrier assignment problems should be jointly solved, we develop an iterative algorithm to find the optimal solution. Numerical results show that the proposed joint delivery scheme with adaptive power and subcarrier allocation outperforms the conventional scheme in terms of the outage probability of the broadcast service and the sum-rate of best-effort users.

  • The study is concerned with the rigid-plastic element analysis for axisymmetric hydromechanical deep drawing in which the fluid flow influences the metal deformation. Due to the fluid pressure acting on the sheet material hydromechanical deep drawing is distinguished from the conventional deep drawing processes. In considering the pressure effect, the governing equation for fluid pressure is solved and the result is reflected on the global stiffness matrix. The solution procedure consists of two stages ; i.e., initial bulging of the sheet surface before the initiation of steady fluid flow in the flange and fluid-lubricated stage. The problem is decoupled between fluid analysis and analysis of solid deformation by deformation by iterative feedback of mutual computed results. The corresponding experiments are carried out for axisymmetric hydro-mechanical deep drawing of annealled aluminium sheet as well as for deep drawing. It has been shown from the experiments that the limit drawing ratio for hydro-mechanical deep drawing is improved as compared with deep drawing. The computed results are in good agreement with the experiment for variation of punch head and chamber pressure with respect to the punch travel and for distribution of thicknees strain. It is thus shown that the present method of analysis can be effectively applied to the analysis of axisymmetric hydro-mechanical deep drawing processes.

  • In airborne gravimetry, there are two data streams. One is the specific force measured by an air/sea gravimeter or accelerometers, the other is kinematic acceleration measured by DGPS. And the difference of them provides the gravity disturbance information. To satisfy the requirement of most applications, an accuracy of 1mGal $(1mCal=10^{-5}m/s^{2})$ with a spatial resolution of 1km is the aim of current airborne gravimetry. There are two different methods to derive the kinematic acceleration. The generally used method is to differentiate the position twice, and the position can be calculated by commercial DGPS software. The main defect of this method is that integer ambiguities need to be fixed to get the precise position solution, but it's not a trivial thing for long base line. And to fix integer ambiguities, the noisier iono-free measurement is used. When differentiation is applied, noise is amplified and will influence the accuracy of acceleration. The other method is to get carrier phase acceleration by differentiate the carrier phase first, and then using the acceleration of GPS satellite to derive the vehicle acceleration. The main advantages include that fixing integer ambiguities is not needed anymore, position can be relaxed to about 10 meters, and smoother acceleration can be got since iono-free measurement is not needed. In some literatures, it's considered that the dynamic performance of the second method is inferior to that of the first. Through analysis, it is found that the performance degradation in dynamic environment results from the simplification of the GPS carrier phase observable model. And an iterative algorithm is presented to compensate the model error. Using a dynamic GPS data from an aeromagnetic survey, the importance of this compensation is showed at last.

  • The solutions are expressed in terms of a double integral transformation over wavenumber and frequency. The complete solution is considered in such a full wave theory approach. This method can handle a larger number of plane layers. Therefore, the result of FK method is very similar to real data. Using the models that were modified in velocity and Q value with depth by iterative process from a model (Kang and Park, 2006) and considered as one of the best models in Korean Peninsula, the synthetic data are simulated for explosions and earthquakes of North Korea. This study notes that the wave shape of the synthetic data is very dependent on Q value, velocities, and thickness of sedimentary layers. Comparing between the real and the synthetic, fitting well in arrival time of first arrival and wave shape causes us to arrive at an indication that the model is very close representation of upper crustal structure and simulations are well done in amplitude fitting and in identification of phases of local and regional waves.

  • One of the most difficult problems in user requirement engineering is the communication gap that exists between different end-users, stakeholders, and software engineers. Since scenarios allow different stakeholders to describe and review the problem in their own language instead of some abstract model, they are also a solution to the problem. We propose a progressive, iterative and interleaved process of using scenario at different requirement engineering stages including elicitation, analysis and validation. This process model has been applied to our TRES System. In our proposed system, we combine prototype, scenarios and use cases in a single and comprehensive framework to avoid most of the shortcomings in other tools. Our system is an XML-based system for scenario-driven requirement engineering. Within the TRES system, scenarios are stories capture information about users and their tasks, including the context of use. In our TRES system, scenarios are stored in XML-based database and described using XML notation.

  • The present work deals with second order statistics of post buckling response of piezoelectric laminated composite cylindrical shell panel subjected to hygro-thermo-electro-mechanical loading with random system properties. System parameters such as the material properties, thermal expansion coefficients and lamina plate thickness are assumed to be independent of the temperature and electric field and modeled as random variables. The piezoelectric material is used in the forms of layers surface bonded on the layers of laminated composite shell panel. The mathematical formulation is based on higher order shear deformation shell theory (HSDT) with von-Karman nonlinear kinematics. A efficient $C^0$ nonlinear finite element method based on direct iterative procedure in conjunction with a first order perturbation approach (FOPT) is developed for the implementation of the proposed problems in random environment and is employed to evaluate the second order statistics (mean and variance) of the post buckling load of piezoelectric laminated cylindrical shell panel. Typical numerical results are presented to examine the effect of various environmental conditions, amplitude ratios, electrical voltages, panel side to thickness ratios, aspect ratios, boundary conditions, curvature to side ratios, lamination schemes and types of loadings with random system properties. It is observed that the piezoelectric effect has a significant influence on the stochastic post buckling response of composite shell panel under various loading conditions and some new results are presented to demonstrate the applications of present work. The results obtained using the present solution approach is validated with those results available in the literature and also with independent Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS).

  • We investigate the joint selection problem of the transmit power level and the best access point for multi-access points. We further reduce the transmit power by jointly optimizing the transmit power and the access point selection. Our aim is to minimize the total transmit power, while each terminal maintains minimum signal to interference ratio requirement. We observe that the optimum solution can be achieved through proposed iterative algorithm for both TA link and AT link. Simulation results show that proposed algorithm (joint optimization of transmit power level and access point) outperforms the algorithm which optimizes the transmit power only. We also observe that the duality between the TA link and AT link does not hold in multi-access points environment. Accordingly, the resulting power vectors and the access point vectors for TA link and AT link are different in general.

  • This paper proposes a simple deformation method for editing the trajectory of a walking motion with preserving its style. To this end, our method analyzes the trajectory of the root joint into the graph and deforms it by applying the graph Laplace operator. The trajectory of the root joint is presented as a graph with a vertex defined the position and direction at each time frame on the motion dataThe graph transforms the trajectory into the differential coordinate, and if the constraints are set on the trajectory vertex, the solver iterative approaches to the solution. By modifying the root trajectory, we can continuously vary the walking motion, which reduces the cost of capturing a whole motion that is required. After computes the root trajectory, other joints are copied on the root and post-processed as a final motion. At the end of our paper, we show the application that the character continuously walks in a complex environment while satisfying user constraints.
