In this paper, local ratcheting behavior of 1045 steel plates with circular cutout was investigated. Experimental tests were carried out by a Zwick/Roell HB 100 servo hydraulic machine. In order to measure the local strain at notch root, a data acquisition system with strain gauge was used. Various notch diameters and distances of strain gauges mounted from the notch root were found influential in the magnitude of local ratcheting strain. It was found that the local maximum principal stress plays a crucial role in increasing the local plastic deformation. Numerical simulation was done by ABAQUS software using nonlinear isotropic/kinematic hardening model. Material parameters of hardening model were attained from several stabilized cycles of flat specimens subjected to symmetric strain cycles. The nonlinear kinematic hardening model along with the Neuber's rule was employed to assess local ratcheting at the notch root of steel plates. The results of the numerical simulations agreed closely with those measured values in this study. Both ratcheting progress and mean stress relaxation occurred simultaneously at the notch root.
Recently there have been many concerns on structural integrity of nuclear piping under seismic loadings. In terms of failure of nuclear piping due to seismic loadings, an important failure mechanism is low cycle fatigue with large cyclic displacements. To investigate the effects of seismic loading on low cycle fatigue behavior of nuclear piping, the cyclic behavior of materials and nuclear piping needs to be accurately estimated. In this paper, the non-linear finite element (FE) analyses have been carried out to evaluate the effects of three different cyclic hardening models on cyclic behavior of materials and nuclear piping, such as isotropic hardening, kinematic hardening and combined hardening.
Precipitates, present in most commercial alloys, can have a strong influence on strength and hardening behavior of a single crystal. The effect of thin precipitates on the anisotropy of initial slip resistance and hardening behavior of crystals is modeled in this article. For the convenience of the computational derivation and implementation, the material formulation is given in the unrelated intermediate configuration mapped by the plastic part of the deformation gradient. Material descriptions for the considered two phased aggregates consisting in lattice hardening as well as isotropic hardening and kinematic hardening are suggested. Numerical simulations of various loading cases are presented to discuss and assess the performance of the suggested model.
The original elastoplastic Hardening Soil model is formulated actually partly under hexagonal pyramidal Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, and can be only used in specific stress paths. It must be completely generalized under Mohr-Coulomb criterion before its usage in engineering practice. A set of generalized constitutive equations under this criterion, including shear and volumetric yield surfaces and hardening laws, is proposed for Hardening Soil model in principal stress space. On the other hand, a Mohr-Coulumb type yield surface in principal stress space comprises six corners and an apex that make singularity for the normal integration approach of constitutive equations. With respect to the isotropic nature of the material, a technique for processing these singularities by means of Koiter's rule, along with a transforming approach between both stress spaces for both stress tensor and consistent stiffness matrix based on spectral decomposition method, is introduced to provide such an approach for developing generalized Hardening Soil model in finite element analysis code ABAQUS. The implemented model is verified in comparison with the results after the original simulations of oedometer and triaxial tests by means of this model, for volumetric and shear hardenings respectively. Results from the simulation of oedometer test show similar shape of primary loading curve to the original one, while maximum vertical strain is a little overestimated for about 0.5% probably due to the selection of relationships for cap parameters. In simulation of triaxial test, the stress-strain and dilation curves are both in very good agreement with the original curves as well as test data.
In this study, springback amounts of an S-rail are quantitatively compared according to the hardening model using a finite element simulation for the stamping process with high strength steels. For comparison of the hardening models, two types of hardening models were investigated. The two models were isotropic hardening and kinematic hardening. For the analysis with kinematic hardening, the Yoshida-Uemori model was selected. Five kinds of springback modes were measured at designated sections and a comparison was made between the experiment and the analyses with two types of hardening models. The analysis results show that the springback in the flange and the wall curl are predicted more accurately with a kinematic hardening model.
A continuum analysis of the evolution of plasticity and Bauschinger effect in a short fiber reinforced metal matrix composite, based on the FEM solution for a single fiber model has been performed to investigate the strengthening behavior. The evolution of matrix field quantities during one cycle of fully reversed loading have been examined in detail. The results indicate that the role of constrained matrix flow in generating different levels of matrix triaxiality during forward and reversed loading provides an important contribution to the developement of the Bauschinger effect in the metal matrix composite. Therefore, even when the plastic flow of the matrix material follows on isotropic hardening behavior, the Bauschinger effect is predicted for the composite material.
The importance of the role of plastic spin in the rate-dependent response of materials at large deformations is the main objective of this work. After a brief presentation of a general consitutive framework for visco-rigid plasticity at large strains an isotropic/kinematic hardening and a visco-rigid plastic model are used to analyze the stress-strain response under simple shear. A clear understanding of the role of plastic spin is achieved by obtaining numerical analyzed results for different stress values in which the plastic spin consititutive parameters interrelaste with the strain rate and other more conventional model constants, Especially this paper is concerned with introducing behaviors of Al7075
In order to better predict the springback for friction stir welded DP590 steel sheet, the combined isotropic-kinematic hardening was formulated with considering the permanent softening behavior during reverse loading. As for yield function, the non-quadratic anisotropic yield function, Yld2000-2d, was used under plane stress condition. For the verification purposes, comparisons of simulation and experiments were performed here for the unconstrained cylindrical bending, the 2-D draw bending tests. For two applications, simulations showed good agreements with experiments.
This paper is proposed to select the optimal finite element type in finite element analysis. Based on the NUREG reports, static analyses were performed using a commercial analysis program, $ABAQUS^{TM}$. In this study, we used a nonlinear kinematic hardening model proposed by Chaboche. The analysis result of solid elements by inputting the same material constants was different from the results of the NUREG report. This is resulted from the difference between shell element and solid element. Therefore, the material constants that have similar result to the experimental result were determined and compared according to element type. In case of using solid element for efficient finite element analysis, we confirmed that the use of C3D8I element type(incompatible mode 8-node linear brick element) leads the accurate result while reducing the analysis time.
