Santa Barbara Amorphous-15(SBA-15) nanoparticles were utilized as the inexpensive and effective adsorbents to remove methylene blue dye from the aqueous solution.SBA-15 was created by Zhao et al method. Infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used for the evaluated physical properties of SBA-15. The results of diffraction X-ray indicated that was the crystalline structure for it. Also IR spectroscopy indicated was a silica the whole structure of the groups and SEM image verify the structure of relatively identical particles size of SBA-15. Factors affecting adsorption including the amounts of adsorbent, pH and contact time were investigated by a SBA-15 nanomaterial design. The extent of dye removal enhanced with increasing initial dye concentration and pH from 4 to 10. The higher percentage adsorption were obtained under optimum conditions of variables (sorbent dose of 200 mg/liter, initial MB concentration 10 mg/liter, initial pH of 10 and temperature of $25^{\circ}C$). Maximum adsorption happened after the 2 hour and the kinetic processes of the dyes adsorption were described by applying the pseudo-first-order and the pseudo-second-order and the relatively High correlation with the kinetic Ellovich models. It was found that the pseudo-second-order models kinetic equation described the data of dye adsorption with a good correlation (R2>0.999) which indicated chemisorption mechanism. Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models were investigated in conditions of variables (adsorbent dose 0.01 gr/liter, MB concentration 10, 20, 30 mg/liter, pH of 4, 7, 10, contact time 90 min and temperature of $27^{\circ}C$). The adsorption data were represented by Langmuir isotherm model. These values are higher than the adsorption capacities of some other adsorbents that have recently been published in the literature.
The laboratory adsorption batch tests were performed to investigate the adsorption characteristics of Pb on kaolinite. The characteristics such as adsorption equilibrium time, adsorption capacity, adsorption isotherm were studied, and also the effects of pH and the mixing ratio on the adsorption of Pb on kaolinite were investigated. Test results show that the adsorption equilibrium state was reached within 24 hours, and the adsorbed amount of Pb increased, but the adsorption efficiency over the initial concentration of 198 mg/l decreased, with increasing the initial concentration of Pb. And the adsorption constant, 1/n was obtained 0.9584 by Freundlich isotherm equation. Regardless of the initial concentration of Pb. the adsorbed amount of Pb as well as the adsorption efficiency were increased with increasing pH values and converged to a certain constant value above 8 of pH values. And also the adsorbed amount of Pb increased with the mixing ratio, but its efficiency increased with the mixing ratio up to 8 and then showed the decreasing tendency above that.

Erythrosine is used a food coloring, ink and dye, etc. but erithrosine is rarely used in United States due to its known hazards. The adsorption characteristics of erythrosine by granular activated carbon were investigated in the batch adsorber and the packed column. The adsorptivity of activated carbon for erythrosine were largely improved by pH control. When the pH was 11 in the sample, the erythrosine could be removed 98% of initial concentration. It was estabilished that the adsorption equilibrium of erythrosine on granular activated carbon was successfully fitted by Freundlich isotherm equation in the concentration range from 10mg/L to 1,000mg/L. The characteristics of breakthrough curve of activated carbon packed column depend on the design variables such as initial concentration, bed height, and flow rate.
The batch experiments by response surface methodology (RSM) have been applied to investigate the influences of operating parameters such as temperature, initial concentration, contact time and adsorbent dosage on 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) adsorption with an activated carbon prepared from waste citrus peel (WCAC). Regression equation formulated for the 2,4-DCP adsorption was represented as a function of response variables. Adequacy of the model was tested by the correlation between experimental and predicted values of the response. A fairly high value of $R^2$ (0.9921) indicated that most of the data variation was explained by the regression model. The significance of independent variables and their interactions were tested by the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t-test statistics. These results showed that the model used to fit response variables was significant and adequate to represent the relationship between the response and the independent variables. The kinetics and isotherm experiment data can be well described with the pseudo-second order model and the Langmuir isotherm model, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of 2,4-DCP on WCAC calculated from the Langmuir isotherm model was 345.49 mg/g. The rate controlling mechanism study revealed that film diffusion and intraparticle diffusion were simultaneously occurring during the adsorption process. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption reaction of 2,4-DCP on WCAC was an endothermic and spontaneous process.
In order to investigate the adsorption characteristics of the antibiotics trimethoprim (TMP) by activated carbon (WCAC) prepared from waste citrus peel, the effects of operating parameters on the TMP adsorption were investigated by using a response surface methodology (RSM). Batch experiments were carried out according to a four-factor Box-Behnken experimental design with four input parameters : concentration ($X_1$: 50-150 mg/L), pH ($X_2$: 4-10), temperature ($X_3$: 293-323 K), adsorbent dose ($X_4$: 0.05-0.15 g). The experimental data were fitted to a second-order polynomial equation by the multiple regression analysis and examined using statistical methods. The significance of the independent variables and their interactions was assessed by ANOVA and t-test statistical techniques. Statistical results showed that concentration of TMP was the most effective parameter in comparison with others. The adsorption process can be well described by the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The experimental data of isotherm followed the Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum adsorption amount of TMP by WCAC calculated from the Langmuir isotherm model was 144.9 mg/g at 293 K.
The paper includes utlization of zeolite as potential adsorbent to remove a hazardous malachite green from waste water. The adsorption studies were carried out at 298, 308 and 318 K and effects of temperature, contact time, initial concentration on the adsorption were measured. On the basis of adsorption data Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm model were also confirmed. The equilibrium process was described well by Freundlich isotherm model, showing a selective adsorption by irregular energy of zeolite surface. From determined isotherm constants, zeolite could be employed as effective treatment for removal of malachite green. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption process followed the pseudo second order model, and the adsorption rate constant ($k_2$) decreased with increasing initial concentration of malachite green. Thermodynamic parameters like activation energy, change of free energy, enthalpy, and entropy were also calculated to predict the nature adsorption. The activation energy calculated from Arrhenius equation indicated that the adsorption of malachite green on the zeolite was physical process. The negative free energy change (${\Delta}G^{\circ}$ =-6.47~-9.07 kJ/mol) and the positive enthalpy change (${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ = +32.414 kJ/mol) indicated the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption in the temperature range 298~318 K.
In this paper, parameter characteristics such as pH effect, isotherm, kinetic and thermodynamic parameters and competitive adsorption of dyes including malachite green (MG), direct red 81 (DR 81) and thioflavin S (TS), which have different functional groups, being adsorbed onto activated carbon were investigated. Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherm models were employed to find the adsorption mechanism. Effectiveness of adsorption treatment of three dyes by activated carbon were confirmed by the Langmuir dimensionless separation factor. The mechanism was found to be a physical adsorption which can be verified through the adsorption heat calculated by Temkin equation. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo second order and the rate limiting step was intra-particle diffusion. The positive enthalpy and entropy changes showed an endothermic reaction and increased disorder via adsorption at the S-L interface, respectively. For each dye molecule, negative Gibbs free energy increased with the temperature, which means that the process is spontaneous. In the binary component system, it was found that the same functional groups of the dye could interfere with the mutual adsorption, and different functional groups did not significantly affect the adsorption. In the ternary component system, the adsorption for MG lowered a bit, likely to be disturbed by the other dyes meanwhile DR 81 and TS were to be positively affected by the presence of MG, thus resulting in much higher adsorption.
In this study, red mud/fly ash based geopolymer adsorbents (RFGPA) were prepared with calcination temperatures of 200, 400, and 600 ℃, and the effects of these calcination temperatures on the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) were investigated. In addition, the prepared RFGPA was characterized using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and Brunauer-EmmettTeller (BET) analysis. The results of the adsorption kinetics of MB at RFGPA prepared calcination temperatures indicated that the adsorption equilibrium of MB was reached after about 72 h. From the results of the adsorption isotherm, we verified that the degree of adsorption increased with increasing MB concentrations. In addition, the adsorption amount (Q) of MB decreased with an increase in calcination temperature. The experimental adsorption isotherm data were well fitted to the Freundlich and Sips equations compared to the Langmuir equation. In order to verify the effects of photocatalytic decomposition (C/C0) of MB on Fe2O3 present in prepared RFGPA, the degree of decomposition of MB was examined under dark and visible conditions. Results indicated that the decomposition of MB in visible conditions was about 3.0 times faster than that in dark conditions.

Objectives: To develop domestic charcoal tubes with good adsorption capacity, breakthrough experiments were performed on four types of activated charcoal. Materials: The adsorption capacity and the adsorption rate were determined using a modified Wheeler equation after the breakthrough experiment. For four types of charcoal (J, K, S and SKC Inc. 226-01), 100 mg were used in the breakthrough experiment. The test was done on benzene, toluene, n-hexane, and acetone in a dynamic chamber. Results: K charcoal had the greatest surface area and the highest micropore volume. J charcoal had a similar surface area and micropore volume to SKC charcoal. S charcoal had the lowest surface area and micropore volume. J charcoal had the highest adsorption capacity at 101, 252 and 609 ppm of benzene. The gap in benzene adsorption capacity among the types of charcoal was the least at 609 ppm and the greatest at 101 ppm. J charcoal showed the highest adsorption capacity at 54, 106, 228 and 508 ppm of toluene. J charcoal and SKC charcoal had a similar adsorption capacity for acetone. J charcoal had the highest adsorption capacity for n-hexane. In the experiment featuring 10% breakthrough volume, 10% breakthrough occurred at 18 liters at $2065.9mg/m^3$ for J charcoal and at 20 liters at $1771.2mg/m^3$ for K charcoal. It was difficult to judge adsorption capacity by surface area and micropore volume of charcoal. J charcoal, which was similar to SKC charcoal in surface area and micropore volume, showed good adsorption capacity at common workplace concentrations. Conclusions: The adsorption capacity of J and K charcoal was superior compared with SKC charcoal. J and K charcoal can be considered appropriate for use as sampling media based on this result.
For the purpose of controlling the release of radioiodine to the environment in nuclear power plants, adsorption characteristics of elemental iodine and methyl iodide on the base carbon and 2%, 5% TEDA impregnated carbons were studied. The amounts of adsorption of elemental iodine and methyl iodide on the carbons were compared with Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips and Dubinin-Astakhov(DA) isotherm equations. Adsorption data were well correlated by the DA equation based on the potential theory. Adsorption energy distributions were obtained from the parameters of the DA equation derived from the condensation approach method. For the adsorption of methyl iodide and elemental iodine-carbon system, the DA equation can be well expressed by the degree of heterogeneity of the micropore system because the surface is nonuniform when its potential energy is unequal. The adsorption energy distribution wes investigated to find a surface heterogeneity on the carbon. The surface heterogeneity for iodine-carbon system is highly affected by the adsorbate-adsorbent interaction as well as the pore structure. The surface heterogeneity increases as a content of TEDA impregnated increases. The adsorption nature of methyl iodide on carbon turned out to be more heterogeneous than that of elemental iodine.
