  • Diversity antenna system against multi-fading environment is strongly required for WiBro service of vehicle. In general, high isolation performance between antennas leads to good diversity gain. In this paper, a polarization diversity antenna is presented, which has orthogonal polarizations and good isolation characteristic. In addition, by simulation and measurement, it is certified that HWLLA (Half Wave Length Loaded Antenna) improves polarization purity on common ground. In isolation between two antennas, HWLLA can provide better isolation over 12dB than conventional PIFA (Planar Inverted F Antenna).

  • The seismic isolation technology has appeared to be increasingly necessary for highway bridges, LNG tank, nuclear power plant, and building structures in view of earthquake vibrations. Also high-technology industries require effective seismic protection. The Seismic Isolation Bearing - High Damping Rubber Bearing - system has been counted as the most effective way fur seismic isolation, which is now under development and widely used in industries. Here, the commercial FEM software for nonlinear analysis, MARC, has provided force-displacement curves on the rubber system. The analyses have been carried out about fourteen cases; 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125% and 150% horizontal displacements with a different frequency - 0.01Hz and 0.50Hz - and 100% horizontal displacement with four different frequency - 0.01Hz, 0.16667Hz, 0.3333Hz and 0.50Hz. The unknown constants of the strain energy function of Ogden model have been obtained by a tension test and planar shear test.

  • Let A be an m × n matrix over nonnegative integers. The isolation number of A is the maximum number of isolated entries in A. We investigate linear operators that preserve the isolation number of matrices over nonnegative integers. We obtain that T is a linear operator that strongly preserve isolation number k for 1 ≤ k ≤ min{m, n} if and only if T is a (P, Q)-operator, that is, for fixed permutation matrices P and Q, T(A) = P AQ or, m = n and T(A) = P AtQ for any m × n matrix A, where At is the transpose of A.

  • As a vehicle speed increases, more vibration energy is transmitted from chassis to a driver. Current isolation system for the driver's seat by damping control can reduce the transmitted vibration energy near resonance area. But in higher frequency region than natural frequency multiplied by $\sqrt{2}$, the vibration energy transmitted to the driver has a tendency to be increased. Therefore, the method by natural frequency reduction of the system is preferred to increase the effectiveness of the anti-vibration. However, the natural frequency could not be freely reduced due to the nature of the isolation system structure. A new passive suspension system to reduce the natural frequency is proposed. The theoretical analysis and experimental results show better vibration attenuation compared with the current isolation system.

  • A vibration isolation system fur a large reverberation chamber (1,228㎥, 1,000ton) has been installed. The reverberation chamber generates loud noise and induces high level of vibration to perform spacecraft acoustic environmental tests. The isolation system prevents vibration transfer from the chamber to enclosure buildings. This paper describes logical design process and commissioning experiments of the system. Design criteria have been induced from rigid body model of the chamber. Finite element model has been employed to select the characteristics of rubber pads. A total of 21 rubber pads have been installed between the chamber and supporting pedestals. A sand bag of 800kg was dropped on the chamber floor to measure the natural frequency of the isolation system. Absolute transmissibility has been measured while generating 145㏈ in the chamber. The natural frequency of the chamber is 10.5㎐, which is 80% of estimated value. Overall transmissibility at working frequency range (25㎐-10,000㎐) is less than -6㏈.

  • This research is concerned with the study of an active vibration absorber using piezoelectric actuators and Isolation pad. The active isolation system consists of 4-pairs of PZT actuators bonded on the surface of an aluminum plate and a passive damping material. The active system is connected to the passive system in series. The Signals of the accelerometers are fed into the PZT actuator through the controller. We proposed a new control technique which can deal with the shock as well as the base excitation in this study. The Positive Acceleration Feedback(PAE) tuned to the natural frequency of the vibration isolation system is used to suppress the vibrations caused by the shock using the top accelerometer signal. The Negative Acceleration Feedback (NAF) based on the base acceleration signal is used to counteract the base motion. Experimental results show that the proposed active vibration isolation system can suppress vibrations.

  • Judging from the occasional occurrences of minor and major earthquakes in Korean peninsula, it is generally considered that Korean peninsula is not located in safe zone from earthquake any more. The worldwide damages from earthquake in public buildings such as bridges are also urging the necessity for an appropriate earthquake proof action. The elastomeric bearings have been used in seismic isolation design of bridges. and elastomeric bearings are quite ideal ones which allow movement and rotation in all directions without restraining superstruture. Within the limits of this study on dynamic behavior of the LBR for seismic isolation design, the reaearch results revealed that the Laminated Rubber Bearing(LRB) is useful in bridges for seismic isolation design. In addition, the relationship between the shape factor and compressive strength is linear. It was also found that the compressive strength gets higher as the shape factor increases.

  • In this paper, we propose a dual-band multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation for WLAN applications (2.45 GHz and 5.2 GHz). The proposed antenna is composed of a mobile communication terminal board, eight radiators, a coaxial feed line, and slots for isolation. The measured -10 dB impedance bandwidths are 10.1% (2.35 GHz to 2.6 GHz) and 3.85% (5.1 GHz to 5.3 GHz) at each frequency band. The proposed four-element MIMO antenna has an isolation of better than 35 dB at 2.45 GHz and 45 dB at 5.2 GHz between each element. The antenna gain is 3.2 dBi at 2.45 GHz and 4.2 dBi at 5.2 GHz.

  • This paper presents a fault detection and isolation(FDI) method based on Generalized Likelihood Ratio(GLR) test for the tightly coupled SDINS/CPS system. The GLR test is known to have the capability of detecting an assumed change while estimating its occurrence time and magnitude, and isolating the changing part. Once a fault is detected even if we don't know if the fault occurrs at either INS or GPS, multi-hypothesized GLR scheme performs the fault isolation between INS and GPS, and find which satellite malfunctions. However, in the INS faulty case, it turned out to fail to accomodate the fault isolation between accelerometer and gyroscope due to the coupling effects and a poor observability of the system. Hence, to isolate the INS fault, it needs to change the attitude of the vehicle resulting in enhancing the degree of observability.

  • This paper presents the LRB-based hybrid base isolation systems employing additional active/semiactive control devices for seismic protection of cable-stayed bridges by examining the ASCE first generation benchmark problem for a cable-stayed bridge. In this study, ideal hydraulic actuators (HAs) and ideal magnetorheological dampers (MRDs) are considered as additional active and semiactive control devices, respectively. Numerical simulation results show that all the hybrid base isolation systems are effective in reducing the structural responses of the benchmark cable-stayed bridge under the historical earthquakes considered. The simulation results also demonstrate that the hybrid base isolation system employing semiactive MRBs is robust to the stiffness uncertainty of the structure, while the hybrid system with active HAs is not. Therefore, the LRB-based hybrid base isolation system employing MRDs could be more appropriate in real applications for full-scale civil infrastructures.
