  • A small-sized ($15mm{\times}30mm$) planar monopole MIMO antenna that offers high-isolation performance is presented in this letter. The antenna is miniaturized using inductive coupling within a meander-line radiator and capacitive coupling between a radiator and an isolator. High isolation is achieved by a T-shaped stub attached to the ground plane between two radiators, which also contributes to the small size using a folded structure and the capacitive coupling with radiators. The proposed antenna operates for the WLAN band within 2.4 GHz to 2.483 GHz. The measured isolation (S21) is about -30 dB, and the envelope correlation coefficient is less than 0.1.

  • In recent modern protective systems have been introduced to reduce the vulnerability of bridges to seismic events. These protective systems include base isolation devices of different types, damping devices and active control devices. The objective of this study is to analytically evaluate the efficiency of a seismic retrofit scheme using base isolation systems, such as lead rubber bearings and sliding isolators. In this study, a triaxial model was used, which is capable of accurately developing the behavior of sliding isolators including the influence of the changing vertical force and velocity on the friction coefficients. Seismic response analyses of the bridge before and after retrofit were carried out by using a three-dimensional nonlinear seismic analysis program, IDARC-BRIDGE. To evaluate the efficiency of a retrofit scheme using triaxial isolators, a comparative study of performances of above two base isolation systems was conducted, and the numerical results show that the triaxial isolation solution can effectively reduce the sheat forces at the piers for the vertical ground motion.

  • Fault section isolation and service restoration are very important for function of DAS. In Japan, a progressive protection method is used for the line to ground fault section isolation and service restoration. But the progressive protection method has a drawback that the customer will experience outage time and that the rate in use of the feeder is not over 50%. This paper presents a new Service Restoration Algorithm which is for the line to ground fault section isolation and service restoration method for a ungrounded distribution system. If the proposed algorithm is used, the rate in use of the feeder can improve than before because a distribution system can change multi connection of feeder and the customer's outage time can be reduced. The proposed algorithm has been successfully tested in a distribution system.

  • The underlying principle of fault detection via unknown input observer is to make the state estimation error independent of disturbances(or unknown inputs). In this paper, we present a systematic method that can exactly assign the eigenstructure with disturbance suppression and fault isolation capability. A desired eigenstructure for both fault isolation and disturbance suppression is obtained by an optimization method. For the dual purposes, terms for fault isolation and far disturbance suppression are included in the employed objective function for the optimization. The proposed scheme is applied to a simple example to confirm the usefulness of the method.

  • A small dual-polarized base station antenna with a simple isolation patch is presented. A high isolation is achieved when using a shorted metallic isolation patch. The experimental results indicate that the measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 1.72 GHz to 1.89 GHz for small cell systems and that the isolation is more than 30 dB. The proposed antenna exhibits good radiation patterns with a peak gain of 8 dBi.

  • Multiplexers based on isolation circuits made of metamaterial lines are proposed and studied. The new approach provides unique advantageous features beneficial to system designer. For instance, there is no need to modify the filters used in multiplexers. Also, the design process is straightforward. In this paper, two types of multiplexers based on metamaterial isolation circuits are presented, and their operation concepts are explained. Also, theories and design process of isolation circuits are presented to help readers design and fabricate proposed multiplexers. For verifying the concepts, two types of triplexers and two types of quadruplexers are designed and fabricated. All filters used in the multiplexers are commercial surface acoustic wave filters. The measured results are well matched with the simulation results.

  • The effect of Mo underlayer on the magnetic properties of CoCrTa/Cr films deposited on glass substrates were investigated. The coercivity increased and the coercivity squareness decreased by introducing Mo underlayer. The coercivity increase was attributed to the increase of in-plane c-axis orientation and magnetic isolation of Co grains deposited on Cr/Mo underlayer. The decrease of coercivity squarenesses seemed to be caused by the increase of magnetic isolation. The increase of magnetic isolation of Co grains was attributed to the diffusion of Mo atoms into grain boundaries of Co films and the physical isolation of Co grains. The coercivity of CoCrTa/Cr/Mo showed maximum values at Mo thickness of $400{\AA}$. The appearance of the maximum coercivity at that thickness was attributed to the development of strong $Co(10{\bar{1}}0)$ and $Co(10{\bar{1}}1)$ preferred orientation.

  • Shallow Trench Isolation (STI) has become the most promising isolation scheme for ULSI applications. The stress of STI structure is one of several factors to degrade characteristics of a device. The stress contours or STI structure vary with the trench depth. Isolation characteristics of STI was analyzed as the depth of trench varied. And transistor characteristics was compared. Isolation punch-through voltage for n$^{+}$ to pwell and p$^{+}$ to nwell increased as trench depth increased. n$^{+}$ to pwell leakage current had nothing to do with trench depth but n$^{+}$ to pwell leakage current decreased as trench depth increased. In the case of transistor characteristics, short channel effect was independent on trench depth and inverse narrow width effect was greater for deeper trenches. Therefore in order to achieve stable device, it is important to minimize stress by optimizing trench depth.

  • This paper presents a proof-of-concept study on the evaluation of torsional vibration isolation performance through in-situ output torque measurement by using a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer installed in the vehicle driveline system. The de-trending processing is first conducted to extract the torsional vibration from the measured driveline output torque. In order to estimate the transmissibility, primary performance indicator of a vibration isolator, the magnitude of transmitted torsional vibration with different frequencies is compared. From the conservative estimation results, the torsional damper built in a lock-up clutch of a torque converter is identified to be a vibration isolator. The evaluation results show that the fluid damping by torque converter outperforms the vibration isolation function of a torsional damper, and the isolation performance needs to be enhanced.

  • The isolation performance of a linear vibration isolator is limited to the ratio of stiffness to mass it supports. The stiffness of the isolator must be large enough to hold the weight. This results in the deterioration of the isolation performance. Recently, to overcome this fundamental limitation, the HSLDS(high-static-low-dynamic-stiffness) magnetic vibration isolator was introduced and its isolation characteristic was investigated theoretically. In this paper, the isolation performance of the HSLDS magnetic isolator is examined experimentally. Considerable amount of experiments are performed by carefully considering nonlinear characteristics. The experimental results verify the practical usability promisingly and agree with the theoretical studies, i.e. its performance is largely dependent on the key design parameter.
