  • The Ottoman dynasty destroyed the Byzantine Empire by occupying Constantinople established the Ottoman Empire and renamed to Istanbul in 1453. Contrary to Islam, the research about Byzantine architecture have an abundant data. Because of the indifference to Islam, there is need today for this sort of study. Islam believe the Biblical Old Testament, I should like to know what is reason for resemblance of the Christian Aya sopia, what is difference in the floor plan between Islam and Judaism. This research applies to the Courtyard type Mosques of SINAN aesthetically completed the Mosque Architecture as a respected architect in 15th century. This study is to investigate the relationship of Orthodox Eastern Church and Islam Mosque within the limit of Istanbul that access is easy and have Christian religion by substratum culture among the many countries that Islam does by diplomatic relations.

  • Early mosque architecture is time that islam attempts fixing since hjira by Muhammad. Before Umayyad dynasty is established a country since islam occurrence, islamic influence was not extended much and stayed in Mecca area. Of course, when is Patriarchal Caliphate period, although there was part territorial expansion, was in existing islam influence still. Regular territorial expansion to Umayyad dynasty several influences and religious conflict happen. Change about islamic architecture occurred much fatally. Therefore, can find islamic archetype about islamic architecture until Prophet Muhammad period and Patriarchal Caliphate period. Also, Muhammad that is Islamic originator participated to mosque architecture directly in life. Can understand philosophy about islamic architecture that Muhammad seeks in mosque architecture. Was age that seek Muhammad's philosophy department religious succession strongly to Patriarchal Caliphate period. Therefore, can understand role of religion, mosque architecture's meaning and role that seek in Islam. It was just before that early mosque architecture receives effect of conquest area or the surrounding country. Therefore, characteristic of mosque received much effect of Prophet Muhammad and qur'an. Do construction according to qur'an's notice based on Prophet's house's function to early mosque. qur'an is no direct delineation as form or architecture element. qur'an refers thing about spiritual aspect or function about special quality of mosque, role etc..

  • The Caravanserai, which can be discovered in the Islamic States in the regions of the Northern Africa and the Middle Asia, still maintains its profound influence to the Islamic World as one of significant edifices in the Islamic World. The majority of the Islamic people at the time of the foundation of Islamic State around AD. 7th century was the nomads, and a trade by means of caravan with their neighboring people was their critical activity for obtaining the necessities of life. With its political and social condition of the Islamic State stabilized and economy developed, the scope of commerce began to grow and the scale of trading with foreign countries started to expand. Along with this economic expansion, the caravanserai began to take a shape as a channel through which not only could the commercial commodities be traded but also religious Islamic ideas and important information could be spread into and shared with the people of neighboring countries. The significance of the caravanserai comes from such observation that it did play major roles in consolidating the solidarity of Islamic states and keeping a religious unity among them. The caravanserai, heading far beyond being a mere commercial center, ultimately functioned as a seedbed of life and spirit of the Islam. Starting from the understanding of social and political significance of the caravanserai, I set the first objective of this article to read into the architecture and interior design of the caravanserai and understand the general characteristics of the Islamic architecture and interior design.

  • This study delves into the concept of cultural hybridity, using the Great Mosque-Cathedral in Córdoba, Spain as a unique case study. This monumental site stands as a testament to the convergence of Islamic and Christian architecture and ideology, a phenomenon that is often discussed in modern contexts. However, this study takes a step further, examining cultural hybridity across historical epochs to reveal its persistent relevance in shaping social and cultural landscapes. Originally a mosque transformed into a Christian cathedral, the Great Mosque-Cathedral is a prime example of this phenomenon, reflecting continuous cultural, architectural, and ideological exchanges between the two religions. This paper meticulously analyzes how the structure's architectural elements embody these exchanges, such as its ornate mihrab and unique double-arched columns. By integrating theories of hybridity with a detailed architectural and historical analysis, the study argues that the mosque-cathedral is not merely a physical space but a dynamic medium through which cultural negotiations and adaptations are articulated. The findings underscore the complexity of cultural hybridity, challenging simplistic interpretations of cultural exchange and dominance, and highlighting the mosque-cathedral's role in ongoing debates about identity and heritage in contemporary society. This comprehensive examination contributes to academic discussions on hybridity and enhances our understanding of cultural resilience and transformation through architectural spaces.

  • The word 'urbanity' literally means 'quality or state of being urban' where the criterion of urban economic and civic culture is assumed despite the general celebration of cultural uniqueness of urban centers. The narratives celebrating the uniqueness of urban centers since the ancient past till recent times could not get rid of the broad categorization of the urban models depending on their contextual networks of trade, mobility and culture. This paper attempts to explore whether the urban cultures in South Asia even preceding a global phenomenon like colonialism were actually reflecting an idea of urbanity where the urban culture, including planning and architecture reflected a trans-national model. This paper particularly concentrates on the medieval period when a pattern of urbanity took shape in this subcontinent under the influence of Islam, which could be explained by its particular idea of urban model, cultural exchange and vibrant trade networks.

  • This paper presents a computationally efficient implementation of a Hamming code decoder on a graphics processing unit (GPU) to support real-time software-defined radio, which is a software alternative for realizing wireless communication. The Hamming code algorithm is challenging to parallelize effectively on a GPU because it works on sparsely located data items with several conditional statements, leading to non-coalesced, long latency, global memory access, and huge thread divergence. To address these issues, we propose an optimized implementation of the Hamming code on the GPU to exploit the higher parallelism inherent in the algorithm. Experimental results using a compute unified device architecture (CUDA)-enabled NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560, including 335 cores, revealed that the proposed approach achieved a 99x speedup versus the equivalent CPU-based implementation.

  • There have been various recent methods proposed in detecting driver drowsiness (DD) to avert fatal accidents. This work proposes a hardware/software (HW/SW) co-design approach in implementation of a DD detection system adapted from an AdaBoost-based object detection algorithm with Haar-like features [1] to monitor driver's eye closure rate. In this work, critical functions of the DD detection algorithm is accelerated through custom hardware components in order to speed up processing, while the software component implements the overall control and logical operations to achieve the complete functionality required of the DD detection algorithm. The HW/SW architecture was implemented on an Altera DE2 board with a video daughter board. Performance of the proposed implementation was evaluated and benchmarked against some recent works.

  • Planetary global localization is necessary for long-range rover missions in which communication with command center operator is throttled due to the long distance. There has been number of researches that address this problem by exploiting and matching rover surroundings with global digital elevation maps (DEM). Using conventional methods for matching, however, is challenging due to artifacts in both DEM rendered images, and/or rover 2D images caused by DEM low resolution, rover image illumination variations and small terrain features. In this work, we use train CNN discriminator to match rover 2D image with DEM rendered images using conditional Generative Adversarial Network architecture (cGAN). We then use this discriminator to search an uncertainty bound given by visual odometry (VO) error bound to estimate rover optimal location and orientation. We demonstrate our network capability to learn to translate rover image into DEM simulated image and match them using Devon Island dataset. The experimental results show that our proposed approach achieves ~74% mean average precision.

  • Pattern refers to singular or repetitive decorative form in a blank surface, Also pattern is not just something to simply fill in the blanks, and has more meanings. Pattern reflects the specific culture or regional feature. So Depending on which pattern to use, creator can give particular of identity. which is generally utilized in visual arts such as painting, architecture, craft, as well as animation. Pattern in animation plays a role of decorating background or surfaces of characters' outfits or props. And Parttern is effective way to describe the story of the times and space environment of the background. Tomm Moore, an animation director in in Ireland mainly produces animations based on traditional folk stories or myths. He usually utilizes cultural and artistic factors related to the themes in his work production. One example is the insertion of pattern closely associated with the narratives and backgrounds of animations to create profound scenes. Tomm Moore used the Irish Celt pattern in Secret of Kells (2009) and Song of Sea (2014) and Islam geometric pattern and plant pattern in a short nimation named On Love from Kahlil Gibran's The Prophe (2014). This study attempts to examine the historical and cultural foundation and the narratives of these two animations, Song of Sea(2014) and Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet: On Love (2014) in which Tomm Moore participated as the director and producer, exploring their relevant traditional patterns. Moreover, it also attempts to analyze how these traditional patterns are utilized in the animations.
