Objective of this research was to investigate the effect of fertigation setting point such as -5, -10, -20, and -30 ㎪ on the growth and fruit quality of sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) in greenhouse culture. The net $CO_2$ assimilation and transpiration rate were the lowest in the treatment of -30㎪. The pH and EC in soil solution were not severly affected by irrigation setting point and no statistical differences were observed among treatments of irrigation setting point tested. The N content of above ground plant tissue was the lowest in the treatment of -30 ㎪ and those of K, Ca, and Mg were the highest in the treatment of -10 ㎪. But that of P did not show statistical differences among treatments tested. As the fertigation setting point was getting low, the growth decreased at 60th day after planting, while there were no differences among treatments at 210th day after planting. The fruit quality except sugar contents did not show differences among treatments, but sugar contents was the highest in the treatment of -30 ㎪ with $8.0^{\circ}$Brix. Above results indicated that fertigation setting point should be in the range from -10 ㎪ to -20 ㎪ to ensure good crop growth and fruit quality in sweet pepper production.

Byobusan area of Aomori prefecture in Japan was a marshy sand dune and had developed for agricultural land use with a large-scale sprinkler system. Recently, it becomes an agricultural problem at this area that distinctive damage with browning maculation and fissures frequently occurs in Chinese yam tubers. Acetaldehyde is one of the factor candidates of underground part damage in plants. In this study, incidence rate of the tuber damage, and the morphological character and elemental composition of the damage parts in tubers were investigated with applications of excessive irrigation water or acetaldehyde water solution into the yam field. The incidence rate of the distinctive tuber damage increased as the input amount of irrigation water was increased. At the browning maculation parts of the tubers, many fissures and damages of cork layer were observed under scanning electron microscopy. In addition, the periderm of tubers was significantly thicker in damaged parts than in non-damaged parts. Funguses, bacterium and nematodes were not observed in the damaged part under scanning electron microscopy. The weight ratio of each constituent element in an analyzed area relative to the total weight of major essential elements was measured with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry. The results showed that the weight ratios of boron, carbon, phosphorus, sulfur and calcium were higher in damaged parts than in non-damaged parts whereas the weight ratios of oxygen and chlorine were lower in damaged parts than in non-damaged parts. It was also shown by this spectrometry that iron, cadmium, lead and zinc were not directly involved in occurrence of the tuber damage. In this study, there was no remarkable difference of tuber appearance between non-acetaldehyde and acetaldehyde application treatments. From the above results, it is shown that the damage would be a physiological disorder induced by the input of a large quantity of water in the sandy field.

Background Negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) induces angiogenesis and collagen synthesis to promote tissue healing. Although acetic acid soaks normalize alkali wound conditions to raise tissue oxygen saturation and deconstruct the biofilms of chronic wounds, frequent dressing changes are required. Methods Combined use of NPWT and acetic acid irrigation was assessed in the treatment of chronic wounds, instilling acetic acid solution (1%) beneath polyurethane membranes twice daily for three weeks under continuous pressure (125 mm Hg). Clinical photographs, pH levels, cultures, and debrided fragments of wounds were obtained pre- and posttreatment. Tissue immunostaining (CD31, Ki-67, and CD45) and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (vascular endothelial growth factor [VEGF], vascular endothelial growth factor receptor [VEGFR]; procollagen; hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha [HIF-1-alpha]; matrix metalloproteinase [MMP]-1,-3,-9; and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase [TIMP]) were also performed. Results Wound sizes tended to diminish with the combined therapy, accompanied by drops in wound pH (weakly acidic or neutral) and less evidence of infection. CD31 and Ki-67 immunostaining increased (P<0.05) post-treatment, as did the levels of VEGFR, procollagen, and MMP-1 (P<0.05), whereas the VEGF, HIF-1-alpha, and MMP-9/TIMP levels declined (P<0.05). Conclusions By combining acetic acid irrigation with negative-pressure dressings, both the pH and the size of chronic wounds can be reduced and infections be controlled. This approach may enhance angiogenesis and collagen synthesis in wounds, restoring the extracellular matrix.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and microbiological effects of metronidazole 25% dental gel that was applied to periodontal pockets who have moderate to advanced chronic adult periodontitis were selected for this study. The quadrants that had 2 or 3teeth with 5-8mm probing pocket depth were selected and divided into test side and control side according to the split-mouth design. The metronidazole 25% dental gel applied on test side and 0.12% chlorhexidine solution applicated on positive control side, normal saline irrigation into periodontal pocket was applicated to negative control side respectively. Above procedures followed scaling and root planing at baseline(0week). The subgingival sterile saline irrigation and chlorhexidine irrigation were done for about 30 seconds respectively. The metronidazole 25% dental gel was applied to periodontal pocket at 0,1 week in the test side. The clinical and microbiological analysis carried out at baseline(0week) and 4,8 weeks. The results of this study were as follows; 1. The sulcular bleeding index, probing pocket depth were significantly reduced in the test group. The relative proportions of spirochetes and motile rods were significantly reduced to negative control group and the proportion of cocci was correspondingly increased in the test group. 2. The sulcular bleeding index, probing pocket depth were significantly reduced in metronidazole group. and, there was a significant differences between 2 groups. Also, the relative proportions of spirochetes and motile rods were reduced in both group. And, there was a significant differences between 2 groups. In conclusion, application of metronidazole 25% dental gel as an adjunct to mechanical debridement of root surfaces may improved the clinical and microbiological status of periodontal disease sites.

Generally, wind or solar power system is operated as a stand-alone power system, the efficiency of which could be higher by designing wind-solar combined system considering average wind speed and solar radiation of the desert region, Mongolia. This system is designed to generate electricity for power users and pumps the ground water for irrigation using deep well pump. The ground water can be used for farming or forestation where there is no or little irrigation system. In connection with this study, a renewable energy park, Green Eco Energy Park, was developed at about 50km east of Ulaanbaatar. 3 sets of 10kW wind power generator and 70 kW of solar power module were installed there. The electricity generated from the system is used to on-site office building and deep well pump for ground water pumping. A 10kW stand-alone solar pumping system, which has no rechargeable battery system, is installed to pump the ground water with the amount of generated power. The ground water is stored in 3 artificial ponds and then it is used for raising nursery tree and farming. The purpose of this study is to provide a possible energy solution to desert regions where there is no or little power system. The system also supply power to ground water pump, and the water can be used for farming and forestation, which will also be a solution of preventing desertification or spreading of desert area.
An analytical model was developed to estimate the stream depletion due to cyclic groundwater pumping by extending the Hunt's analytical solution which was derived from considering the hydraulic characteristics of the aquifer and the streambed. The model was applied to analyze the long-term effects of groundwater pumping on stream depletion during irrigation season. For the case of a total of 1,500 conditions according to various aquifer and streambed hydraulic characteristics and stream-well distance, the stream depletion due to cyclic groundwater pumping for 10 years was calculated and the results were graphically represented. Especially, the maximum and average stream depletion rates were calculated and compared with the results for continuous groundwater pumping. Furthermore, considering both stream depletion and return flow rates, the limit hydraulic condition that minimizes the influence of groundwater pumping for irrigation water supply on stream depletion was suggested.

There are many problems that occur currently in agriculture industries. The problems such as unexpected of changing weather condition, lack of labor, dry soil were some of the reasons that may cause the growth of the plants. Condition of the weather in local area is inconsistent due to the global warming effect thus affecting the production of the crops. Furthermore, the loss of farm labor to urban manufacturing jobs is also the problem in this industry. Besides, the condition for the plant like air humidity, air temperature, air quality index, and soil moisture are not being recorded automatically which is more reason for the need of implementation system to monitor the data for future research and development of agriculture industry. As of this, we aim to provide a solution by developing IoT-based platform along with the irrigation for increasing crop quality and productivity in agriculture field. We aim to develop a smart garden system environment which the system is able to auto-monitoring the humidity and temperature of surroundings, air quality and soil moisture. The system also has the capability of automating the irrigation process by analyzing the moisture of soil and the climate condition (like raining). Besides, we aim to develop user-friendly system interface to monitor the data collected from the respective sensor. We adopt an open source hardware to implementation and evaluate this research.
Microorganisms are implicated the endodontic treatment failures. Persistent endodontic infection may be the result of retention of microorganisms in the dentin of the root canal walls. Dentinal tubules of the root canal walls have been shown to harbor microorganisms. The purpose of this study was to investigate the invasion of microorganism into the root dentin and dentinal tubules. The effects of irrigation solutions and smear layer on bacterial colonization of root canal were evaluated using a scanning electron microscopy. Canals of extracted human teeth with single and straight canals were stepback prepared using normal saline. Tooth samples were divided into four groups according to the irrigation solutions -5 % sodium hypochlorite and normal saline-and smear layer treatment. The smear layer was removed by 5% NaOCl and 20% EDTA for 10 min respectively. After sterilization, they were incubated with each strains of Streptococcus sanguis, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Sodium hypochlorite solution reduced the adhesion of microorganisms effectively compared to normal saline. The smear layer inhibited colonization of E. faecalis, S. aureus and E. coli in the root canals due to their blocking of dentianl tubules. But S. sanguis invaded dentinal tubules in the root canals without smear layer. It was suggested that bacterial attachment might be different according to the strains. Sodium hypochlorite inhibited bacterial attachment in the dentinal tubules dramatically. The absence or presence of smear layer affected bacterial invasion of the dentinal tubules.
Tomato seedlings (20- days old) were transplanted to infested soil with Orobanche cernua and non-infested soils. All plants were maintained under 0, 25, 50 and 75 mM NaCl soil salinity levels throughout their growing period under greenhouse conditions. Plants grown in O. cernua infested soil infIltrated with 0, 25, and 50 mM NaCl solution for salinity showed significant reduction in their growth as well as their total soluble carbohydrate and protein contents in compared with those grown in non-infested soil. However, under 75 mM NaCI salinity level all plants showed similar growth values whether they were grown in O. cernua infested or non-infested soil. Starting at the fifth and through out the eighth week after transplantation there was a significant increase in plant height in the 0, 25 and 50 mM NaCl irrigated plants over other treatments. Irrigation with 50 mM NaCl significantly reduced the emergence of O. cernua (2/plant) and the number of attachments (4.4 attachments) on roots of tomato. Furthermore, irrigation with 75 mM NaCl resulted in complete elimination of O. cernua emergence.
Cultivation methods for clean soybean sprouts were investigated using irrigating solutions with grapefruit seed extract, chitosan and phosphate buffer. Chitosan and phosphate buffer did not inhibit the growth of soybean sprouts and increased the yield. Especially phosphate buffer was effective in yield increase and rot inhibition. As the times of irrigation with phosphate buffer increased, the yield of soybean sprouts increased up to 12.3% compared to that of the control. The high increase of yield and rot inhibition of soybean sprouts were detected even in $4{\sim}8$ times irrigation with phosphate buffer.
