  • Also, t-cincreaseisdecreasein order In hydroponics, the accumulation of inorganic ions in the root zone are closely related to the irrigation volume. Therefore, the effects of irrigation volume on the growth and yield of tomatoes are very signigicant. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of irrigation volume on inorganic ions of root zone in hydroponic culture using coir substrate. The irrigation volume was adjusted to 4 levels depending on the integrated solar radiation for each growth period. The drainage ratio was calculated by daily amount of irrigation and drainage. The higher irrigation volume is, drainage ratio and water absorption tended to increase. But, the water absorption in the treatment of high irrigation volume was decreased in February and March compared to the treatment of medium high irrigation volume. By calculating monthly average irrigation volume and the drainage ratio, 120 to 1$40J/cm^2$ in January, 100 to $120J/cm^2$ in February, 80 to $100J/cm^2$ in March, 70 to $90J/cm^2$ in April and 60 to $75J/cm^2$ in May was detected as appropriate irrigation volume ranges which drainage ratio was 20-30%. The higher irrigation volume, the lower the concentration of ions decrease, which could prevent the accumulation of nutrients in the root zone. However, due to the characteristics of the coir substrate that absorbs ions, concentration of ions was significantly high when the drainage ratio was 20-30%. However, concentrations of P and K were sometimes lower in the drainage than that of irrigation water regardless of the treatment. Mg and S were the most highly accumulated ions even in the treatment of high irrigation volume. In low radiation season, there was no difference in the ion concentration in the drainage depending on the irrigation volume. In high radiation season, the lower irrigation volume, resulted to the higher ion concentration in the drainage. After March, it was difficult to prevent the increase of ions concetration in the drainage by only adjusting irrigation volume. Thus, it is necessary to decrease the EC of irrigation solution to prevent the accumulation of nutrients in the root zone.

  • About 50 percent of irrigation and drainage facilities in our country are deteriorated as they were constructed over 40 years ago. Worsening the problems in function might be caused by these facilities' constant exposure to the elements. With these reason, efficient maintenance and management of irrigation and drainage facili- ties are required. A computerized system is tailored on the basis of the each characteristics'data of irrigation and drainage facilities. The unified management system to be introduced in this study is a package program consisting of three subprograms. Facility Management(FM) system, the first component, is a relational database system for image processing and registering the characteristics of irrigation and drainage facilities. The objective of this program is to manage the ledger of each facilities and to scan the characteristics of facilities. Telemeter(TM) system, the second component, monitors and processes the data from the sensors statistically. This system is preprogramed for the complete design of TC/TM system. Hydrological Data Management(HDM) system, the third component, executes the hydrological analysis using meteorological data. The unified management system can provide the latest information, such as image data, lists and items of facilities, and items of reforming and rebuilding etc., of the facilities to the manager. At the same time, this system can manage hydrological and meteorological data in realtime.

  • We applied electrical resistivity survey using modified pole-pole array and small-loop electromagnetic survey to delineate the zone of seawater inflow through a tide embankment. The tide embankment is generally affected by tidal variation and has low resistivity characteristic due to the high saturation of seawater. For this reason, the electrical resistivity survey using modified pole-pole array, which is relatively more effective to the conductive media, was carried out to detect the inflow zone of seawater and small-loop electromagnetic survey using multi-frequency with 300 to 20,010 Hz was conducted. As a result of both electrical resistivity survey using modified pole-pole array and small -loop electromagnetic survey, these survey methods are found to be quite effective for investigation of seawater inflow zone in the sea dike.

  • Drainage water in lowland paddy fields is quantitatively influenced recycle and/or repeated irrigation by irrigation facilities, i.e. pumps, check gates, small reservoirs and so on. In those drainage channels, nutrients accumulation and increasing organic matters are considered to be occurred, and water quality would be degraded not only environmental aspect but irrigation purpose. In general, Total Nitrogen (T-N) is interested water quality index in irrigation water, because high nitrogen concentration sometimes caused decreasing rice production by excess growth and fallen or degrading quality of taste, then, farmers would like to clear water less than 1mg/L of T-N concentration. In drainage channel, it is known that the nitrogen concentration change is influenced by physical, chemical and biological properties, i.e, stream or river bed condition, water temperature, other water quality index, and plant cover condition. In this study, discharge data (velocity and level) in a drainage channel was monitored by an Acoustic Doppler system and water quality was sampled at same time in 2011. So those data was analyzed by multi regression model to realize hydrological and environmental factors to influence with nitrogen concentration. The results showed the difference tendency between irrigation and non-irrigation period, and those influenced factors would be considered in water quality model developing in future.

  • Head and neck abscess usually requires hospitalization, intravenous antibiotic therapy, and surgical incision and drainage. Open surgical drainage may result in unsightly scars. We report two cases of a 56-year-old man with a facial abscess and a 47-year-old man with a parotid abscess. The patients were successfully treated with ultrasound-guided angiocatheter irrigation and drainage without scar. Ultrasound-guided angiocatheter irrigation and drainage can be a simple, safe and effective alternative procedure to open surgery in the management of the selected head and neck abscesses.
