Mechanical and chemical methods are the two ways to treat the implant surfaces. By using mechanical method, it is difficult to eliminate bacteria and by-products from the rough implant surface and it can also cause the structural change to the implant surface. Therefore, chemical method is widely used in order to preserve and detoxicate the implant surface more effectively. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of tetracylcline- HCl on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with pure titanium machined surface, SLA surface and $TiO_2blasted$ surface were used in this study. Implant surface was rubbed with sponge soaked in 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution for $\frac{1}{2}$ min., 1min., $1\frac{1}{2}$ min., 2 min., and $2\frac{1}{2}min.$ respectively in the test group and with no treatment in the control group. The sponge was soaked in every 30 seconds. Then, the specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. Based upon the analysis of photographs by three dentists who are not related with this study, the results were obtained as follows; 1. In the pure titanium machined surfaces, the control specimen showed a more or less rough machined surface composed of alternating positive and negative lines corresponding to grooves and ridges. After treatment, machining line was more pronounced for the control specimens. but in general, test specimens were similar to control. 2. In the SLA surfaces, the control specimen showed that the macro roughness was achieved by large-grit sandblasting. Subsequently, the acid-etching process created the micro roughness, which thus was superimposed on the macro roughness. Irrespective of the application time of 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution, in general, test specimens were similar to control. 3. In the $TiO_2blasted$ surfaces, the control specimen showed the rough surface With small pits. The irregularity of the $TiO_2blasted$ surfaces with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution was lessened and the flattened areas got wider after 1 minute.

The aim of this study was to assess the microleakage underneath a pit and fissure sealant bonded to occlusal surfaces treated by Er:YAG laser To determine the most effective energy density of laser, fourteen specimens were irradiated from 50mJ to 300mJ at 3Hz. After irradiation, the lased specimens were observed under the scanning electron microscope. Thirty six non-carious extracted premolars were randomly assigned to four groups of nine teeth: group 1, no treatment on the occlusal surface; group 2, acid etching for 15 seconds; group 3, Er:YAG laser irradiation; group 4, acid etching followed by Er:YAG laser irradiation. The pits and fissures were sealed with unfilled sealant(Helioseal F) and the specimen teeth were thermo-cycled, immersed in 2% Rhodamine B solution, longitudinally sectioned and analyzed for microleakage with fluorescent microscope. The results were as follows: 1. Er:YAG lased surfaces with 50mJ, 3Hz showed a similar pattern of irregularity with acid etched enamel surfaces 2. The mean microleakage score increased in the order of group 2, 4, 3 and 1. There was no significant difference among group 1, 3 and 4(p>0.05), however group 2 showed significantly less microleakage compared with group 1 and 3. Conclusively, the laser irradiation seemed not enough to replace the acid etching for proper retention of pit and fissure sealants.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the patterns of fast food intake in residential areas and its relation to eating habits among 551 6th grade students (286 male students and 265 female students) from elementary schools located in Gangnam-gu, Dongjak-gu and Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. The results of this study were as follows. 1) There were significant differences in the preference for fast food among districts (p<0.05) and children from Seongbuk-gu showed a greater preference for fast food than those from Gangnam-gu and Dongjak-gu. In terms of preferences for particular types of fast food, children from Seongbuk-gu liked hamburgers more than those from Gangnam-gu and Dongjak-gu so that there were significant differences among districts (p<0.05). With regards to the frequency of intake of the various types of fast food, there were differences in hamburger, pizza and chicken among three districts (p<0.05) and children from Seongbuk-gu ate fast food 1 to significant 2 times more often than those from Gangnam-gu and Dongjak-gu. 2) There were significant differences in the regularity of mealtimes between districts (p<0.05), with children from Seongbuk-gu showing more irregularity in their mealtimes than those from Gangnam-gu and Dongjak-gu. There were significant differences in the frequency of snack intake (p<0.05), and children from Seongbuk-gu tended to take a snack 1 to 2 times more often than those from Gangnam-gu and Dongjak-gu. 3) In the frequency of fast food intake in accordance with obesity, there were significant differences between the obesity index (p<0.05). In particular, children who were underweight had a tendency to eat more fast food. There were significant differences between the frequency of fast food intake depending on children's pocket money (p<0.05), and children who took fast food more than twice a week tended to have more pocket money. According to these results, we report there are partly different trends in the consumption of fast food and food habits among the districts in Seoul. Therefore we suggest that different interventions be implemented within the different districts to reduce reliance on fast food restaurants and to address the perceptions of healthy eating as well as time and convenience barriers.

Masonry infill walls are frequently used as interior partitions and exterior walls in low- or middle- rise RC buildings. In the design and assessment of buildings, the infill walls are usually treated as non-structural elements and they are ignored in analytical models because they are assumed to be beneficial to the structural responses. Therefore, their influences on the structural response are ignored. In the case of buildings constructed in the USA in highly seismic regions, infill walls have a lower strength and stiffness than the boundary frames or they are separated from the boundary frames. Thus, the previously mentioned assumptions may be reasonable. However, these systems are not usually employed in most other countries. Therefore, the differences in the seismic behaviors of RC buildings with/without masonry infill walls, which are ignored in structural design, need to be investigated. In this study, structural analyses were performed for a masonry infilled low-rise RC moment-resisting frame. The infill walls were modeled as equivalent diagonal struts. The seismic behaviors of the RC moment-resisting frame with/without masonry infill walls were evaluated. From the analytical results, masonry infill walls can increase the global strength and stiffness of a structure. Consequently, the interstory drift ratio will decrease but seismic forces applied to the structure will increase more than the design seismic load because the natural period of the structure decreases. Partial damage of the infill walls by the floor causes vertical irregularity of the strength and stiffness.
The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of different nitrogen source and rate on the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. vasinfectum which is known to be a noticeable fungus causing the wilt disease of both sesame and cotton in Korea. From the results of this study, It was known that different N source and rate markedly affect the growth of Fusarium oxyspsrum f. vasinfectum Among four N sourses were used in this study, nitrate-N and urea-N were appropriate N source for the growth of fungus. Above all, nitrate N was the best N source because it is utilized in more extensive range of concentration in comparison with the other N source by the fungus, On the other hand, ammonia-N is of little avail for the growth of the fungus because of the formation of unusual colonies with wavy margin and bead-like mycelial cells in addition to marked reduction of mycelial growth and B sporulation of the fungus irrespective of concentration. Judging from the formation of such an abnormal colony and bead-like mycelial cell which is known to be a characteristic of 'staling-type' growth of fungi, the effect of ammonia-N on the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. vasinfectum is similar to that of phenoxy componnds on some other fungi previously investigated by some workers. Ammonium and nitrate also was not considered to be an appropriate source for the growth of the fungus because of the formation of colonies with slight wavy margin and appreciable reduction of mycelial growth and sporulation in higher concentration than 50meq. , although much or less masking of the irregularity of colony occurs. Therefore, ammonia N alone or any other N combined with ammonia N is of little avail for the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. vasinfectum.

The expansion behavior of inflatable steel pipe rockbolt shows geometric nonlinearity due to its ${\Omega}-shaped$ section. Previous studies on the anchoring behavior of inflatable steel pipe rockbolt were mainly performed using theoretical method. However, those studies oversimplified the actual behavior by assuming isotropic expansion of inflatable steel pipe rockbolt. In this study, the anchoring behavior of the inflatable steel pipe rockbolt were investigated by the numerical method considering the irregularity of pipe expansion and other influencing factors. The expansion of inflatable steel pipe rockbolt, the contact stress distribution and the change of the average contact stress and the contact area during installation were analyzed. The contact stresses were developed differently depending on the constitutive behavior of rocks. Small contact stresses occurred in steel pipes installed in elasto-plastic rock compared to steel pipes installed in elastic rock. Also, the anchoring behaviors of the inflatable steel pipe rockbolt were different according to the stiffness of the rock. The steel pipe was completely unfolded in the case of the stiffness smaller than 0.5 GPa, but it was not fully unfolded in the case of the stiffness larger than 0.5 GPa for the given analysis condition. When the steel pipe is completely unfolded, the contact stress increases as the rock stiffness increases. However, the contact stress decreases as the rock stiffness increases when the steel pipe is not fully expanded.
Chick embryos which have received a single injection of the organophosphate compound,malathion (0.1 mg, 0.5 mg, 1.0 mg or 2.0 mg in 0.05 ml of corn oil) via the yolk sac at certain times (2 daya, 4 days or 6 days after incubation) have been investigated. After 9 days of incubation, chick embryos were harvested to investigate the effects of malathion on the development of cerebrum morphologically and biochemically. The effects of simultaneous injection of malathion and nicotinamide were also compared. On ultrastructural examination, neurons in cerebral cortex showed to be inhibited in their differentiation by malathion; nuclear irregularity, swelling of endoplasmic reticulum, and cytoplasmic vacuoles were observed. On cytochemical study of acetylcholinesterase(AChE) by electron microscope, the positive reaction products of this enryme were localized at the membrane of nucleus and endoplasmic reticulum of neurons. Inhibition of AChE activty was severe in groups treated with relatively low doses, which was consistent with the results of spectrophotometric analysis. The activity of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) of cerebrum in groups treated with malathion was higher than that of the control group. The nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NAD) content of chick embruo treated with malathioti decreased significantly, and nicotinamide coinjection raised the NAD level as compared with the control group, thus preventing malathion-induced momhological alteration. In conclusion, it is suggested that malathion changes the ultrastructure of differentiating neurons and alters some enzyme activities in chick embryo cerebrum, and the severity of which is consistently dose-or age-dependent.
The effect of tryptophan or serotonin on the early stage of chick brain development has been morphologically investigated using an electron microscope. The electron micrographs of neural plate cells of 1-day chick embryo treated with tryptophan or serotonin showed irregularity, evagination and disruption of nuclear membrane and nuclear chromatin condenstation, nucleolar margination and segregation. Hypertrophy of stalks, vesicles and vaculoes were seen and dilated and disrupted rough endoplasmic reticulum and underdeveloped neurotubules were also observed. In mesenchyme cells of tryptophan or serotonin administered 18 hr embryo, irregular nuclear membrane, swollen mitochondria, dilated rough endoplasmic reticulum and very large yolk granules were observed. Furthermore, DNA, RNA and protein contents of the embryos treated with typtophan or serotonin were considerably lower than those of control group. The amount of tubulin of the experimental groups was also greatly lower than that of control, suggesting that the impairment of microtubule formation occurred. Tryptophan or serotonin administration might depress the biosynthesis, of nucleic acid and protein including some enzymes tested. It seems that the serotonin formed from exogeneous tryptophan might inhibit the degradation of yolk granule by feedback regulation mechanism so as to impair microtububle and microvilli formation followed by a malformation of chick embryos.
The effects of X-irradiation on the mitotic activity, the chromosome aberration and the DNA synthetic pattern in synchronized human kidney cells treated with 5-AU were measured in the present experiment. When 5-AU was added, mitotic activity was markedly suppressed. After removal of the cells from the chemical, its activity proceeded synchronouly and reached peaks at hours 10. In 5-AU+100R groups, it was observed the X-ray caused mitotic delay, the irregularity of the time when mitotic peak appeared and the inhibiton of mitotic activity. In the control group, chromosome aerrations per cell was 0.030, whereas 0.147 in 5-AU treated group. In 5-AU+100R and 5-AU+200R groups, chromosome aberrations per cell were 0.583 and 0.669 respectively and the average chromosome aberrations per cell per R was 0.0035. 5-AU increased the frequency of labeled metaphases together with labeling intensity, and this is thought to be due to the accumulation of cells by 5-AU at S stage. On the contrary, X-ray decreased the labeling intensity and the frequency of labeled metaphases.
The growth process of the Chungkook-jang that occured by utilizing such traditional methods as Bacillus natto and Bacillus subtilis method has been examined. The results of the experiment in which the changing process of elements during the storage period had been measured are as follows: 1. During the growth period, concerning any change in pH, the storage period had been declined and after 18 days pH rose above 7.0. Salt content was between $5.28{\sim}6.40%$ and Bacillus subtilis fungus showed the highest titrable acidity. 2. Moisture content was between $50.94{\sim}56.74%$ and crude protein content range was $14.44{\sim}18.60%$ indicating irregularity in pattern resulting from the testing equipment groups, whereas crude fat and crude fiber tend to decrease in general. 3. During the storage, total sugar and ethyl alcohol content in all of groups tended to decrease and after 18 days Bacillus subtilis total sugar content was the lowest. 4. Amino nitrogen and water soluble nitrogen content increased with days, but no difference was found between groups. 5. Amylase and protease activity showed irregular pattern with time, but no significant difference between groups was found.
