The effect of bronze sintered friction materials on frictional and mechanical properties is studied with the content(8~18 wt,%) and shapes (flake and irregular) of graphite that is used as solid lubricants to meet diverse characteristics such as low coefficient of friction, low wear rate and high bending strength. The content and shapes of graphite are optimized by statistical experiments. Friction test was carried out measure friction coefficient, temperature dependence and wear rate. As a result of experiments, the density, hardness and bending strength with a shape of flake graphite are lower and decrease rapidly than that of Irregular, as the content of graphite increases up to 18 wt% Aftei friction test, coefficient of friction is 0.3~0 4 and wear rate is $0.32{\sim}2.98{\times}10^{-7}cm^3/kg{\cdot}m$. When the content of graphite increases, coefficient of friction increases In a shape of flake graphite and decreases in a shape of irregular graphite.
This paper presents the thermally induced hot spot characteristics of rubbing surface in the friction pad disk brake. During the braking period, the rubbing surface with irregular asperities that are strongly engaged in rough surface, wear, and deformed surface due to a friction heating may produce an irregular distorted geometry of the disk surface. The tribological interactions between the disk and the pads are unstable if the contact stress is severe, in which the irregularity develops the contact pressure distribution, leading eventually to localized contact, high temperature and formation of hot spots. The computed results of contact spots that are simulated using a coupled thermal-mechanical analysis present sinusoidal distortions and localized extrusions of the disk surface, which are strongly related to a hot spot in the practical disk brake.
The tire uneven wear has been an ongoing concern for a long time, and one of customer's complaints too. This paper deals with uneven wear improvement of passenger car tires, to have tested the tire wear levels by each wheel alignment set (according to changing toe and camber) using taxis. The pre-set wheel alignments on test vehicle were gained by energy friction simulation of tire. The result of this experiment was as follows : First, verified the effects of initial wheel alignment (adjusted at Curb Vehicle Weight) to minimize tire uneven wear. Second, tire uneven wear makes tire life much shorter than even wear does.
Abrasion tests of an SBR compound were conducted using four different types of abrasion testers (cut and chip, Lambourn, DIN, and LAT100). The abrasion test results were analyzed in terms of size distributions and morphologies of the wear particles. Most wear particles were larger than 1000 ㎛. The wear particle size distributions tended to decrease as the particle size decreased. Except for the Lambourn abrasion test, the wear particles smaller than 212 ㎛ were rarely generated by the other three abrasion tests, implying that small wear particles were produced through friction by introducing talc powder. Shapes of the wear particles varied depending on the abrasion testers. The wear particles generated from the Lambourn abrasion tester had stick-like shapes. The cut and chip abrasion test showed a clear abrasion pattern, but the DIN abrasion test did not show any specific abrasion pattern. The Lambourn and LAT100 abrasion tests showed irregular abrasion patterns.
It is important to prevent roll failure in hot rolling process for reducing maintenance cost and production loss. The relationship between rolling pass schedule and the work roll wear profile will be presented. The roll wear pattern is related with roll catastrophic failure. The irregular and deep roll wear pattern should be removed by On-line Roll Grinder(ORG) for roll failure prevention. In this study, a computer roll wear prediction model under real process working condition is developed and evaluated with hot rolling pass schedule. The method of building wear calculation functions for center portion abrasion and marginal abrasion respectively was used to develop a work roll wear prediction mathematical model. The three type rolling schedule are evaluated by wear prediction model. The optimum roll grinding methods is suggested for schedule tree rolling technique.
The fractal dimension aims to quantitatively define the irregular characteristics of the shape in nature. It can be useful in describing morphological characteristics of various wear particles. This paper was undertaken to diagnose failure condition for sliding members in lubrication using fractal dimension. The experiments were undertaken to analyze the shape of wear particles and to diagnose failure condition for sliding members in lubrication using the image processing and the fractal parameters. It was possible to diagnose wear mechanism, friction, and damage state of machines through analysis of shape characteristics for wear particle in driven condition using fractal parameters.
In case of hardfaced wrapping roll, beadmark shape appear at wrapping roll surface due to irregular wear between weld bead. Irregular wear of this is caused by difference of hardness between weld bead. This study aims at investigating which matrix is good for removing of beadmark at wrapping roll surface. So, we make specimen with martensitic matrix and austenitic matrix. The hardfacing alloys were deposited 4 times on a SS41 steel plate using self-shielding flux cored arc welding method. Difference of hardness between weld bead of specimen with matrix of martensite was higher than specimen with matrix of austenite both as-welded and after heat treatment. Therefore, austenitic matrix is better than martensitic matrix for removing of beadmark of wrapping roll surface.
In case of overalyered wrapping roll, beadmark shape appear at wrapping roll surface due to irregular wear between weld bead. Irregular wear of this is caused by difference of hardness between weld bead. This study aims at investigating which matrix is good for removing of beadmark at wrapping roll surface. So, we make specimen with martensitic matrix and austenitic matrix. The overlayered alloys were deposited 4 times on a SS41 steel plate using self-shielding flux cored arc welding method. Difference of hardness between weld bead of specimen with matrix of martensite was higher than specimen with matrix of austenite both as-welded and after heat treatment. Therefore, austenitic matrix is between than martensitic matrix for removing of beadmark of wrapping roll surface.
Influence of frictional and mechanical properties was studied with the content(8-18 wt.%) and shapes(flake of irregular) of graphite that was used as lubricant components of copper-based sintered materials. The density, hardness and bending strength of friction materials with the shape of flake graphite were lower and decreased rapidly than that of irregular, as the content of graphite increases up to 18 wt.%. In friction test, wear rate was about 2.0-$2.5{\times}10^{-7}\textrm{cm}^3$/kgf.m and coefficient of friction was 0.30-0.37, independent on graphite content and shape. As the temperature of friction materials increased, wear rate decreased rapidly because oxides such as $Cu_2O$ and $SnO_2$ in the surface of friction material were formed.
Two male reticulated giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata), 21-year-old, died of nutritional deficiency that primarily caused by serious tooth wear at Seoul Zoo in winter. A 970 kg-weighed giraffe showed tooth wear of premolars, molars and incisors at necropsy. A foreign body in the rumen, congestion and ulcer of abomasum and duodenum were also observed. Mild appearance of serous fat atrophy in pericardial sac suggests that lack of nutritional intake caused by tooth wear can become harmful enough to threat life. At the necropsy of a 1,290 kg-weighed giraffe, a large quantity of sandy soil were found in the rumen which would stuck the pathway of well-fermented ruminal contents at esophageal groove. Nutritional deficiency could be suspected to urge this giraffe to graze grass on the ground along with sandy soil. Secondarily, the soil damaged teeth and become a culprit making irregular tooth wear and mild serous fat atrophy. Nutritionally good care of geriatric animals is needed especially for browsing animals like giraffes and critically in winter season.
