  • Leaf spots were first observed on watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris Schrad) under polyethylene film-covered green-house in November 2002. Symptoms appeared as dark-brown circles or large irregular spots on the leaves of watermelon. Occasionally, zonal growth of the lesions was observed. Under humid conditions, small black sclerotium-like bodies (sporodochia) were produced on the surface of the lesions. The sporodochia on leaf lesions were sessile, polymorphic, variable in size, 35-850 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter, and 30-470 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in depth. Conidia in sporodochium were black in mass, one-celled, rod-shaped, with rounded ends, hyaline, guttulate, and measured 6-8$\times$1.6-2.2 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in size. The pathogen was identified as Myrothecium roridum Tode ex Fr. This is the first report of Myrothecium leaf spot on watermelon naturally occurring in commercial greenhouses.

  • This paper describes a research work of developing a computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM) of irregular shaped sheet metal product for blanking or piercing and bending operation. An approach to the system is based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the system is formulated form plasticity theories, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. This system has been written in AutoLIST on the AutoCAD and in customer tool kit on the SmartCAM with a personal computer and is composed of nine modules. the system is designed by considering several factors, such as material and thickness of product, complexities of blank geometry and punch profile, diameter and material of a wire, and availability of press. This system is capable of unfolding a formed sheet metal to give flat pattern and automatically account for the adjustment of bending allowances to match tooling requirements by checking dimensions and generating NC data automatically according to drawings of die-layout module. Results carried out in each module will provide efficiencies to the designer and the manufacture of blanking or piercing and bending die in this field.

  • This paper reports the electrical conductivity and the stress-strain behavior of silver particle-filled silicone composite pastes for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding gasket materials. The percolation threshold (critical concentration) of the composite paste obtained by incorporating irregular sphere-shaped silver particles and room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone resin was determined from the electrical conductivity result. At about 28 vol% Beading of untreated silver particles, the percolation phenomenon occurred and at this critical concentration, the volumetric resistivity, the tensile strength, and the elongation of the pastes were investigated. This work also suggests that the stress-strain characteristics of a composite paste filled with metal particles above the percolation threshold may be effectively improved by properly selecting a coupling agent.

  • Colletotrichum musae was isolated from dark-brown anthracnose lesions on commercial banana (Musa sapientum L.) to establish the causal agent of the symptom. The fungus grew fast and produced white aerial mycelium on PDA. Acervuli developed abundantly on culture plates after incubation for 10 days at $25^{\circ}C$. Pinkish conidial masses were produced on the acervuli, which mostly coalesced together, Conidia were aseptate, hyaline, straight, ellipsoid to globose, and 14.5$\times$6.9 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in size. Black, clavate, round, or irregular-shaped appressoria measuring 8.8$\times$6.8 $\mu\textrm{m}$ were readily formed from germ tubes. Setae-like structures were not found either on the lesion or on the cultures. Sclerotia were also absent. Among the media, PDA medium was the best for mycelial growth. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth was $28^{\circ}C$, while the optimum pH ranged from pH 5.5 to 6.5. The isolates of C musae caused black necrotic lesions on banana fruits by needle-wound inoculation, and orange-colored spore masses were produced on the lesions. The fungus also caused discoloration on apple fruits inoculated.

  • Dried oak mushroom have complex and various visual features. Grading and sorting of dried oak mushrooms has been done by the human expert. Though actions involved in human grading looked simple, a decision making underneath the simple action comes from the result of the complex neural processing of the visual image. Through processing details involved in human visual recognition has not been fully investigated yet, it might say human can recognize objects via one of three ways such as extracting specific features or just image itself without extracting those features or in a combined manner. In most cases, extracting some special quantitative features from the camera image requires complex algorithms and processing of the gray level image requires the heavy computing load. This fact can be worse especially in dealing with nonuniform, irregular and fuzzy shaped agricultural products, resulting in poor performance because of the sensitiveness to the crisp criteria or specific ules set up by algorithms. Also restriction of the real time processing often forces to use binary segmentation but in that case some important information of the object can be lost. In this paper, the neuro net based real time recognition algorithm was proposed without extracting any visual feature but using only the directly captured raw gray images. Specially formated adaptable size of grids was proposed for the network input. The compensation of illumination was also done to accomodate the variable lighting environment. The proposed grading scheme showed very successful results.

  • Specimens of Diophrys appendiculata (Ehrenberg, ] 838) and D. scutum (Dujardin, 1841) have been collected from the coastal and brackish waters around near Ulsan, during 2004-2007. Diophrys appendiculata and D. scutum are described taxonomically for the first time in Korea. Diagnostic characteristics of these species are as follows. Diophrys appendiculata: size in vivo $43-68{\times}25-50{\mu}m$, adoral zone of membranelles (AZM) covering 43-74% of cell length in impregnated and 46-65% in vivo specimens with 32-47 adoral membranelles (AM). Paroral membrane is slightly curved. Four to five dorsal kinetal (DK) rows are fragmented and anterior and posterior parts of rows densely ciliated. Two macronuclear nodules (Ma) irregular and elongated oval in shape and widely separated. D. scutum: size in vivo $125-225{\times}75-140{\mu}m$, AZM extending to the middle of right border of body and covering 50-60% of cell length with 56-75 AMs. Body shape is typically ovoid with prominent concave margin at right posterio-lateral end, and rather thick and wide longitudinal ridge along lower buccal cavity on ventral side. Two macronuclei shaped like a sausage. five to six dorsal kineties.

  • The genus Petroderma never been reported from the coast of Korea. In this study, our collection from Chaeseokang is matched with P. maculiforme morphologically. Petroderma maculiforme is characterized by having small irregular light to dark brown crusts, a basal layer of irregularly shaped cells giving rise to erect parallel filaments which easily separate with pressure, single chromatophore per cell, small spherical to cylindrical unilocular sporangia in a terminal position, and plurilocular sporangia narrower than erect filaments or wider and shorter than erect filaments in a terminal position. In addition, Hineksia sordida was also collected from Korea. It is mostly epiphytic and characterized by uniseriate filamentous thalli forming loose tangled masses, sparse and spiral branching, some long lateral branches, rhizoids occurring throughout the plant, plurilocular and unilocular sporangia scattered on separate plants. Our molecular analyses based on the rbcL gene reveal that our samples of P. maculiforme and H. sordida are nested within the clades of Petroderma and Hincksia, respectively. Therefore P. maculiforme and H. sordida are reported as new records from Korea based on morphological and molecular analyses.

  • Using the electron microscopical method, this study was attempted to investigate the ultrastructural characteristics of glomeruli in FGS/Kist mice showing high proteinuria. The mucus-like substances were observed in glomerular capillary lumen which were usually narrowed by the widening of mesangial area filled with electron-dense deposits. Some portions of basal lamina in capillary wall were projecting to urinary space. Moreover, many vacuoles were observed in the cytoplasm of visceral epithelial cells, and an irregular-shaped fusion or effacement of foot processes were often shown in areas adjacent to basal lamina of glomeruli.

  • Dissolution behavior of complex carbonitrides in a Nb-Ti-V microalloyed steel was quantitatively examined by electrical resistivity, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and optical microscopy. The electrical resistivity increased with solution treatment temperature up to $1250^{\circ}C$ for a holding time of 15 min. But, an increasing rate of electrical resistivity with temperature was obviously decreased above $1150^{\circ}C$. As the solution treatment temperature increases, irregular shaped Nb-rich carbonitrides disappear and cuboidal Ti-rich carbonitrides are observed. Abnormal grain growth occurs above $1250^{\circ}C$ for a holding time of 15 min. The optimal solution treatment temperature of a Nb-Ti-V microalloyed steel was determined as $1200^{\circ}C$ for a holding time of 15 min.
