산화-환원 싸이클 조업에 의한 고순도 수소생성 (High Purity Hydrogen Production by Redox Cycle Operation)

  • High purity hydrogen, 97-99 vol.%, with CO at just ppm levels was obtained in a fixed bed of iron oxide employing the steam-iron cycle operation with reduction at 823K and oxidation in a steam-$N_2$ mixture at 773K TGA experiments indicated that temperature of the reduction step as well as its duration are important for preventing carbon build-up in iron and the intrusion of $CO_2$ into the hydrogen product. At a reduction temperature of 823K, oxide reduction by $H_2$ was considerably faster than reduction by CO. If the length of the reduction step exceeds optimal value, low levels of methane gas appeared in the off-gas. Furthermore, with longer durations of the reduction step and CO levels in the reducing gas greater than 10 vol.%, carbidization of the iron and/or carbon deposition in the bed exhibited the increasing pressure drop over the bed, eventually rendering the reactor inoperable. Reduction using a reducing gas containing 10 vol.% CO and a optimal reduction duration gave constant $H_2$ flow rates and off-gas composition over 10 redox reaction cycles.

  • 용융 온도를 낮추고 균질화에 영향을 줄 수 있는 yttrium oxide(산화 이트륨)과 iron oxide(산화철)를 사용하여 $LI_2O-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ 계 결정화 유리를 제조하였다. 조핵제는 Zirconium sulfate(황산지르코늄)을 사용했고, 유리 점도를 낮추기 위해 calcium phosphate(인산칼슘)을 사용해 유리 유동성을 원활하게 하였다. 결정화 유리는 열충격 $750^{\circ}C$ 이상을 만족했고, $800^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 열팽창계수가 급격하게 상승하는 온도를 약 $30^{\circ}C$ 이상 시프트 하였다. 따라서 yttrium oxide와 iron oxide 포함하는 LAS 계 유리는 고온에서 양호한 용융 상태와 우수한 열팽창 저항성을 확인하였고 특수 주방용 재료 분야에 충분히 활용이 가능하리라 판단되었다.

Synthesis of Non-hydrate Iron Oleate for Eco-friendly Production of Monodispersed Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

  • In this work, we describe a novel and simple technique to produce non-hydrate surfactant complexes for the formation of highly crystalline fatty acid modified SPIONs by thermolysis of iron oleate (FeOl) complexes in a non-coordinating solvent. FeOl complexes were prepared by direct coordination of iron ions and carboxylic acid; thus, we could control the stoichiometric composition of the precursor by changing the molar ratio of fatty acid and metal ions. The discrete thermal behaviors and chemical coordination of the intermediate non-hydrated FeOl were studied by thermo-analytic techniques including differential scanning calorimetry, thermal gravimetric analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

  • Kobe Steel, LTD. and Midrex Technologies Inc. jointly developed the FASTMET$\circledR$ process as a steel mill waste recycle technology in which the DRI product meets BF feed material or BOF/EAF feed material requirements. FASTMET(R) process turns value-less wastes into valuable DRI and sellable zinc oxide, and gives the solution for the steel mill wastes recycling from both economical and environmental viewpoints. During the development of the process, Laboratory, Pilot Plant and Demonstration Plant tests were carried out from 1990 to 1998. The first FASTMET(R) commercial plant began operation in April, 2000 and the second commercial plant started in April, 2001 Both commercial plants have proceeded successfully preying that FASTMET$\circledR$ is a suitable process for recycling steel mill waste and for producing DRI as an iron source.

Effects of supplementation cysteine-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles compared to FeSO4, on reproductive performance in male quail

  • Iron has a crucial role in growth as part of metalo-proteins like haemoglobin or myoglobin, enzymes; they are also involved in energetic reactions. Iron plays a vital role in fertility. At high doses, Iron has a harmful consequence on the reproductive system, which can be strongly reflected the final stage of spermatogenesis. Nutritional products are claiming to use nanotechnology and it is important to recognize the potential toxicity of nano-sized nutrients. Recently iron nanoparticles were proposed as a food additive for poultry. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of L-cystein coated iron oxide nanoparticles on reproductive performance in male quails. The results of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer, Alternating Gradient Force Magnetometer and Scaning Electron Microscopy showed that iron oxide nanoparticles was produced and have been coated with L-cycstein (Fe3O4-Cys NPs). A total of 100 one-week-old quail chicks were randomly placed to five groups of five replicates. Four quails (two male and two females) were raised in an individual cage for each replicate. The five experimental treatment diets consisted; negative control diet, with no Iron supplementation; positive control diet supplemented with 60 mg/kg of Fe3O4; treatment diets supplemented with 0.6, 6 and 60 mg/kg of L-cystein coated iron oxide nanoparticles. The hemoglobin, Red blood cell, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, gonadal somatic index, daily sperm production, total testicular sperm and sperm viability of the male quails that were fed with diet supplemented by 0.6 mg/kg of Fe3O4-Cys NPs were improved as compare with negative control. This study showed that not only the use of the Fe3O4-Cys nanoparticles had no side effects but also it can be used as a feed additive to improve the reproductive performance in male quails.

  • The pulsed power system is widely used for many industries and environments. Generally, we call the "RUST", the reddish brown surface, that was made on iron surface or some other metals, when they are contacted by water and air the main substance of rust is oxide-ionization. In other words, the chemical symbol of rust on iron surface is iron oxide(III) hydrate Fe203.nH2O. In this study, we have designed and fabricated our system which has a compact pulse generator with switching MOSFET. Also we have studied the metal-oxide removing characteristics using in the atmospheric arc discharge. It has been investigated their removing characteristics by the change of charging voltage and pulse repetition rates. From this result, we can find out that the removal area Is increased from 3.80 to 8.04[$\textrm{cm}^2$], when pulse duration is increased from 100[pps] to 400[pps]. 400[pps].

산화철 나노입자의 마이크로캡슐화와 이를 이용한 세포의 자력부상 배양 (Microencapsulation of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles and Their Application in Magnetic Levitation of Cells)

  • 실크의 섬유 고분자 단백질인 피브로인을 사용하여 산화철 나노입자가 내포된 테라그노시스가 가능한 마이크로캡슐을 제조하였다. 열중량 분석으로 산화철의 함량은 4.28%, 자력계로는 5.11%로 측정되었다. 산화철 마이크로캡슐이 첨가된 마우스 섬유아세포 3T3 배양액에서 얻어진 세포 현탁액은 자력에 반응하여 맑게 변하고, 세포는 자석 방향으로 응집하였다. 배양접시 상단에 올려둔 네오디뮴 자석은 세포를 배양액 표면 중심으로 세포를 끌어모았다. 배양액 표면에 모인 세포들은 응집하여 72 h 이후 장축의 길이가 2 mm인 비대칭 타원체인 세포 집합체를 형성하였다. 세포집합체의 바깥층에는 세포들이 상대적으로 크고 서로 모여 치밀한 조직을 형성하였으나, 중심부는 물질전달제한으로 세포의 사멸이 진행되는 것으로 관찰되었다. 바깥층에는 산화철 마이크로캡슐이 자력의 방향으로 체인처럼 일렬로 늘어선 현상도 관찰되었다. 마이크로CT를 이용하여 세포응집체 내부의 산화철이 고루 분포하지 않고 자력 방향으로 비대칭적으로 분포하고 있음을 보였다.

일광광산 폐갱 유출수에 의해 형성된 바이오매트의 생광물학적 연구 (Biomineralogical Study on the Microbial Mats formed from the Mine Drainage of the Abandoned Ilkwang Mine in Pusan, Korea)

  • Microbial mats, the yellow and reddish brown deposits formed from the mine drainage, occur on the bottom of drain and mine tailing pond of the Ilkwang mine in Pusan, Korea. The constituents of microbial mats and their biomineralization were studied by using XRD, IR, and SEM-EDX. The upper part of the microbial mat is yellow-colored and composed of tube-shaped and small spheroid bacterial materials, which are mainly made up of amorphous and poor-crystalline iron-oxide minerals. The shape and composition of bacterial materials suggest that they are probably belong to iron-oxide mineral aggregates. The iron-oxide minerals of the yellow microbial mats are mainly goethite, but those of the reddish brown microbial mats contain abundant hematite along with goethite. This implies that with the evolution of biomats, goethite may be transformed to hematite.

  • 산화철의 제조에는 기존의 습식화학제조법과 건식화학제조법이 있는데, 모두 환경에 영향을 미치는 화학물질을 대량으로 사용하여 산화철을 제조하는 기술이다. 본 기술보고에서는 환경친화적 제조법으로 스크랩을 원료로 박테리아를 이용하여 산화철을 제조하는 생화학적 기술과 자전고온합성법을 이용하여 산화철을 제조하는 신개념의 산화철제조 기술을 소개하였다.

산화철계 형석대체제의 전로 정련특성 (BOF Refining of Fluorspar Substitute Using Iron Oxide Based By-product)

  • Fluorspar has been essential flux in steelmaking process. The main effects of fluorspar addition are lowering of the viscosity and melting temperature of slag. In recent years, due to the increasing price and environmental problem of fluorspar, various types of fluorspar substitute have been investigated. In this study, iron oxide by-products such as sinter dust, basic oxygen furnace (BOF) sludge and mill scale were developed as a substitute in terms of waste recycling. Several plant trials were carried out by addition of briquetted substitutes of $4{\sim}6$ kg/ton to compare with the fluorspar of $0.7{\sim}1$ kg/ton. The substitutes showed a similar behavior of slag formation, phosphorus removal and MgO saturation content.
