  • Mud, iron oxide, plaster, salt, minerals, and dissolved metals are sequentially deposited in accordance with the increasing concentration of seawater. In this paper, by using the physical characteristics of the seawater, we propose a new vacuum heat-transfer technology to subsequently obtain the proportion of the dissolved components in a cost-effective manner. Based on the vacuum heat-transfer characteristics of seawater, we comprehensively divide the seawater resource processes into the following four processes: (1) the salt concentration process to the saturation concentration, (2) crystallization process for salt formation, (3) mineral precipitation, and (4) remaining of dissolved metals.

  • The segregation (distribution) of nickel and the composition of its constituents influence the low thermal expansion characteristics (Invar effect) in Fe-30 wt.% Ni-12.5 wt.% Co-xC Invar alloy. The change of coefficient of the thermal expansion and magnetic properties were studied as an aspect of carbon addition causing the segregation of Ni in primary austenite of as-cast Fe-30 wt.% Ni-12.5 wt.% Co Invar alloy. The coefficient of thermal expansion of Fe-30 wt.% Ni-12.5 wt.% Co-xC Invar alloy showed its lowest value at 0.08 wt.% carbon, increased with increasing carbon content in the range of 0.08-1.0 wt.%C, kept constant at 1.0-2.0 wt.%C and decreased at carbon higher than 2.0 wt.%. The effective distribution of the coefficient of nickel in as-cast Fe-30 wt.% Ni-12.5 wt.% Co-xC Invar alloy increased with increasing carbon content. The volume fraction of they phase of Fe-30 wt.% Ni-12.5 wt.% Co-xC alloy increased with increasing carbon content. The microstructure of Fe-30 wt.% Ni-12.5 wt.% Co-xC alloy changed with the carbon content was independent of the coefficient of thermal expansion. The Curie temperature changed linearly with the carbon content and was similar to the change of the coefficient of thermal expansion. Moreover, the coefficient of thermal expansion decreased when the ratio of saturation magnetization to Curie temperature ($\sigma_s/T_c$) increased, decreasing the Curie temperature and showed a specific relationship with the magnetic properties of the Fe-30 wt.% Ni-12.5 wt.% Co-xCInvar alloy.

  • Nanoparticles $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ is fabricated by a sol-gel method. The magnetic and structural properties of powders were investigated with XRD, SEM, Mossbauer spectroscopy, and VSM. $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ powders annealed at $300{^{\circ}C}$ have a spinel structure and behaved superparamagnetically. The estimated size of $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ nanoparticle is about 10 nm. The hyperfine fields at 13 K for the A and B patterns are found to be 533 and 507 kOe, respectively. The ZFC curves are rounded at the blocking temperature ($T_B$)and show a paramagnetic-like behavior above $T_B$. $T_B$ of $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ nanoparticle is about 250 K. Nanoparticles $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ annealed at 400 and $500{^{\circ}C}$ have a typical spinel structure and is ferrimagnetic in nature. The isomer shifts indicate that the iron ions were ferric at the tetrahedral (A) and the octahedral (B). The saturation magnetization of nanoparticles $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ annealed at 400 and $500{^{\circ}C}$ are 40 and 43 emu/g, respectively. The magnetic anisotropy constant of $Ni_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ annealed at $300{^{\circ}C}$ were calculated to be 1.6 ${\times}$ $10^6$ ergs/$cm^3$.

  • The intension of this study is to produce ordinary portland cement using ash, both bottom ash and fly ash, obtained from municipal solid waste incineration ash (MSWI). We used limestone, waste molding sand, shale, slag from converting furnaces and fly ash as main raw materials and mixed them, setting the lime saturation factor (LSF) within 91.0, the silica modulus (SM) within 2.40, and iron modulus (IM) within 1.80. We conducted tests adding bottom ash alone 1, 2 and 3% by weight, respectively, and a mixture of bottom ash 0.9% and fly ash 0.1 % by weight. The result of analysis on clinker shows that the more ash is added, the lower the burnability index (B.I.) falls, lowering the mineral evolution of calcium silicate accordingly. From the measurement of compressive strength we have learned that the more ash is used, the lower the strength becomes.

  • The magnetic properties of aluminum anodized film in which Co-Fe alloy electrodeposited are investigated with regard to the alloy composition of magnetic films. The electrodeposited Co-Fe particles are confirmed to be single phase Co-Fe alloys by X-ray diffractions. At 34 at% Co, the sample with small pore diameter(particle diameter $150\;{\AA}$) has a large magnetic energy product($B_{max}$) of about 1.44 MGOe due to the large saturation magnetization, the high coercive force and good squareness of the M-H curve. However, for the samples with particle diameter larger than $450\;{\AA}$, the bottom of each particle forms abnormal particle claaed branch-shaped unlike the sample of the particle diameter $150\;{\AA}$. In this case, the magnetic anisotropy energy was about zero at the compositions of 45 and 75 at% Co. Moreover, at the compositions from 50 to 70 at% Co, the anisotropy became negative value. This means that an easy axis of magnetization of the film is in plane in plane in spite of the perpendicular shape anisotropy of the particle. It was found that the bottom extremity of the particle contains FeC from the X-ray diffraction. Thus the effect of the bottom extremity, that is, an unusal magnetic property was removed by electrodepositing Cu at the bottom extremity of the particle. Itis clear that the magnetic properties of the ilms are influenced by he branch-shaped bottom extremity filled with FeC.

  • Cobalt ferrite and garnet powders were grown using a conventional ceramic method in two different ways for understanding the magnetic interaction between structurally different materials. Structures of these powders were investigated by using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and the magnetic interaction between iron ions and the magnetic properties of the powders were measured by a $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), respectively. The result of the XRD measurement showed that the annealing temperature higher than $1200^{\circ}C$ was necessary to grow a $(CoFe_2O_4)_{0.5}(Y_3Fe_5O_{12})_{0.5}$ powder. $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectra for the powders grown separately and mixed mechanically consisted of sub-spectra of cobalt ferrite and garnet, however, powders annealed together had an extra sub-spectrum, which was related with the magnetic interaction between the grain surface of cobalt ferrite and the one of the garnet. In case of annealing the powders at the temperature large enough to crystallize them, raw chemicals became fine cobalt ferrite and garnet particles at first and then these fine particles were aggregated and formed large grains of ferrite powders. The result of the VSM measurement showed that the powders prepared at $1200^{\circ}C$ had the similar saturation magnetization and the coercivity regardless of the preparation method.

  • The study on physico-chemical characteristics of the acid sulfate soil present in Kimhae plain was carried out with 28 surface and subsoils from lower and higher produtive area and two representative profile samples from the areas reclaimed a few decades ago and around 10 years ago respectively. 1. There are no differences in soil texture between lower and higher productive soils being mostly silty clay loam and silty clay. 2. Very significant differences in pH, degree of base saturation and extractable aluminium content are observed; lower pH, lower degree of base saturation and higher aluminium in the lower productive soils and subsoils. The pH and degree of base saturation of these soils are extremely low whereas aluminium content is very high compared to ordinary paddy soil. 3. Cation exchange capacity of these soils are slightly higher than ordinary paddy soils. In higher productive soils, exchangeable calcium and magnesium are of same order, whereas in lower productive soils magnesium content is appreciably higher than calcium. 4. Though the soil is derived from marine and estuarine sediment, the soluble salt content is not high. There are only few lower productive surface soils and subsoils having Ec values of the saturation extracts higher than 4 mmhos but lower than 9 mmhos/cm. 5. Organic matter content of these soils is a bit higher compared to ordinary paddy soils, but, nitrogen content is comparatively low. C/N ratio of these soils is around 12. 6. Sulfur content is considerably higher but oxidizable sulfur is found to be very low. Total sulfur is generally high in subsoils and lower productive soils. 7. Active iron and available silica are slightly higher than ordinary paddy soils but easily reducible manganese is very low. Almost no differences are also observed between lower and higher productive soils. 8. Available phosphorus content is extremely low in particular, regardless of higher or lower productive soils. 9. The two representative profiles from the area of earlier reclamation and recent one show that samples from earlier reclaimed area contain less amount of free acids, sulfur compounds, toxic aluminium and soluble salts etc. than the other. This indicate greater leaching and possible addition of lime for a longer period of time. 10. From the results obtained, it can be concluded the higher productivity of group I soils is due to the greater leaching and neutralisation of acidity by liming materials, It can also be concluded that the productivity of both types can be increased by addition of liming materials and improvement of drainage facilities.

  • Dust cores (compressed powder cores) of $Fe-6.0wt\%Si$ alloy with a size of $35\~180\;{\mu}m$ in diameter have been prepared by phosphate coatings and annealings at $600\~900^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in nitrogen atmosphere. Further the magnetic and mechanical properties of the powder cores were investigated. As a general trends, the compressive strength and core loss decreased with the increase in annealing temperature. When annealed at $800^{\circ}C$, the compressive strength was 15 kgf, the permeability and quality factor were 74 and 26, respectively. Moreover the core loss at 50 kHz and 0.1 T induction was $750\;mW/cm^3$, and the percent permeability under the static field of 50 Oe was estimated to be about 78. In addition, the cut-off frequency in the cure representing the frequency dependence of effective permeability was measured to be around 200 kHz. These properties of the $Fe-6.0wt\%Si$ alloy dust cores could be considered to be due to the good insulation effect of iron-phosphate coats, the decrease in magnetocrystalline anisotropy and saturation magnetostriction and the increase in electric resistivity.

  • Magnetic and structural properties of $(CoFe_2O_4)_{1-x}(Y_3Fe_5O_{12})_x$ powders (0 $\leq$ x $\leq$ 1) grown by a conventional ceramic method were investigated using X-ray diffractormeter (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Mossbauer spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The XRD results for the powders annealed at 120$0^{\circ}C$ indicated that no other peak was observed except for the ones from cobalt ferrite and the garnet powder. SEM micrographs indicated that cobalt ferrite and garnet powders were aggregated and completely formed together. It was hard to identify which part of the powders was the garnet or the cobalt ferrite. Mossbauer spectra for powders grown separately and mixed mechanically consisted of sub-spectra of cobalt ferrite and garnet, however, powders annealed together had an extra sub-spectrum, which was related with the interaction between iron ions at the grain surfaces of cobalt ferrite and the garnet: cobalt ferrite and garnet particles were located very closely. The value of the saturation magnetization measured by a VSM as a function of composition ratio agreed very well with the ones based on the theoretical calculation.
