Experimental measurements of laser-induced ion mobility(LIIM) were performed for ethene/air premixed flames operated near the soot inception point. Soot was ionized using a pulsed laser operated at 532 nm. The ionization signal was collected with a tungsten electrode located in the post-flame region. ionization signals were collected using both a single electrode and dual electrode configuration. Prior LIIM studies have focused on the use of a single biased electrode to generate the electric field, with the burner head serving as the path to ground. In many practical combustion systems, a path to ground is not readily available. To apply the LIIM diagnostic to these geometries, a dual electrode geometry must be employed. The influence of electrode configuration, flame equivalence ratio, and flame height on ionization signal detection was determined. The efficacy of the LIIM diagnostic to detect soot inception in the post-flame region of a premixed flame using a dual electrode configuration was investigated. For the different dual electrode configurations tested, the dual parallel electrode geometry was observed to be most sensitive to detect the soot inception point in a premixed flame.

Protonated caffeine ($CH^+$) and glucosamine ($GH^+$) overlapped in an analysis with ion mobility spectrometryquadrupole mass spectrometry. Ethyl lactate vapor (L) at different concentrations from 0 to 22 mmol $m^{-3}$ was added as a buffer gas modifier to separate these signals. The drift times of $CH^+$ and $GH^+$ increased with L concentration. The drift time increase was associated to clustering equilibria of $CH^+$ and $GH^+$ with one molecule of L and the equilibrium of $GH^+$ was more displaced to the formation of $GLH^+$ than that of $GLH^+$. $GH^+$ clustered more to L than $CH^+$ because $GLH^+$ formed more stable hydrogen bonds (26.30 kcal/mol) than $GLH^+$ (24.66 kcal/mol) and the positive charge in $GH^+$ was more sterically accessible than in $CH^+$. The aim of this work was to use theoretical calculations to guide the selection of a buffer gas modifier for IMS separations of two compounds that overlap in the mobility spectra and predict this separation, simplifying that empirical process.
International attempts to smuggle narcotics and explosives using ship or aircraft cargoes are on the rise. With the recent increase in the number of detection cases of narcotics and explosives in Korea, it is important to detect dangerous material (narcotics and explosives) through container searches at ports and airports, which are the main routes. This paper proposes a technique to detect dangerous material in cargo containers using the sampled output signal of ion mobility spectroscopy (IMS). The proposed technique estimates parameters such as a threshold, a window length, and a noise level for ion detection of the target dangerous material by using known materials in the initialization stage. The estimated parameters are used to detect the ions of the dangerous target material inside the containers. The proposed technique can be applied when the peak value of the IMS signal and the ion mobility are varying due to container environments.

Graphene has been considered as one of the potential post Si-materials due to its high mobility. [1] However, since graphene is semi-conductor with zero band gap, it is difficult to achieve high Ion/Ioff ratio, one of the most important requirements for commercial devices. There have been many attempts to open its band gap for high Ion/Ioff ratio, but most of them end up lowering the mobility. [2-5] Thus, we proposed and demonstrated a new device structure for graphene transistor based on one of the unique properties of graphene for high Ion/Ioff: using this approach, we were able to achieve the ratio over $10^5$. [6] Our device has several major advantages over previously proposed graphene based electronic devices. Since our device does not alter the given properties of graphene, such as opening the band gap, it has no fundamental issues on mobility degradations. In addition, our device is fully compatible with current Si technology and we were able to fabricate the devices with 6 inch wafer scale with CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) grown graphene. In this presentation, we will discuss about the details of our graphene device including the device structure and the detailed understanding of working mechanism. We will present device characteristics including I-V curves with $10^5$ on/off ratio. We will also present the performance of an inverter based on our devices. Finally, we will discuss the current issues and their potential solutions.
To develop a technique of theoretical alpha track density calculation for comparison with measured track density, an electrostatic ion spectrometer was specially designed and fabricated. The mobility spectrum of first radon daughter(Po-218) in the range of $0.07{\sim}5.0cm^2/V\;s$ from the radon chamber was measured using-the electrostatic ion spectrometer. Measurement was taken in a radon chamber operated using dry particle free air passed through silica gel, activated charcoal and molecular sieve filters. The mobility of a new-born Po-218 ion measured by the electrostatic ion spectrometer was determined to be $1.92cm^2/V\;s$. A comparison of the theoretical and measured alpha track densities was completed and uncertainties concerning the shape of the spectrum were analyzed. It was found that the discrepancies in track densities are primarily Que to the neglect of wall loss of ions in the theoretical track density calculation.

It has been known that transport characteristics of ions are very complicated in CEDI system due to the inter-relations between ion exchange media and solution. Thus, this study sought to determine the ionic mobility of cobalt ion through cation exchange textile under electroregeneration and consequently verify the transport mechanisms of cobalt ion in a CEDI system.(omitted)

'Movement' is an expanded concept of 'place' where people act, interact with one another and achieve a specific purpose at every moment. Wheelchairs, as a mobility aid, have a profound impact on improving the quality of physical and psychological well-being for the mobility disadvantaged groups who have mobility difficulties. Such mobility aids were developed mainly for outdoor activities, but in recent years, mobility aids for indoor spaces, the main living environment, are also being developed. Because indoor mobility aids generally move short distances repeatedly, this study examined the characteristics of lithium-ion batteries in short-distance driving of battery-powered wheelchairs and compared them with the characteristics of lithium-ion batteries in continuous driving. The result showed that the driving time for short-distance driving was 2.8% shorter than that of continuous driving. The current supplied to the motor was 15.4% higher for short-distance driving than that of continuous driving.

This paper reports the effects of Ar ion beam surface treatment on a $SiO_2$ dielectric layer in organic thin film transistors. We compared the electrical properties of pentacene-based OTFTs, treated by $O_2$ plasma or Ar ion beam treatments and characterized the states of the surface of the dielectric by using atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. For the sample which received $O_2$ plasma treatment, the mobility increased significantly but the on/off current ratio was found very low. The Ar ion beam-treated sample showed a very high on/off current ratio as well as a moderately improved mobility. XPS data taken from the dielectric surfaces after each of treatments exhibit that the ratio of between Si-O bonds and O-Si-O bonds was much higher in the $O_2$ plasma treated surface than in the Ar ion beam treated surface. We believe that our surface treatment using an inert gas, Ar, carried out an effective surface cleaning while keeping surface damage very low, and also the improved device performances was achieved as a consequence of improved surface condition.

Solution-processed metal-alloy oxides such as indium zinc oxide (IZO), indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) has been extensively researched due to their high electron mobility, environmental stability, optical transparency, and solution-processibility. In spite of their excellent material properties, however, there remains a challenging problem for utilizing IZO or IGZO in electronic devices: the supply shortage of indium (In). The cost of indium is high, what is more, indium is becoming more expensive and scarce and thus strategically important. Therefore, developing an alternative route to improve carrier mobility of solution-processable ZnO is critical and essential. Here, we introduce a simple route to achieve high-performance and low-temperature solution-processed ZnO thin film transistors (TFTs) by employing alkali-metal doping such as Li, Na, K or Rb. Li-doped ZnO TFTs exhibited excellent device performance with a field-effect mobility of $7.3cm^2{\cdot}V-1{\cdot}s-1$ and an on/off current ratio of more than 107. Also, in case of higher drain voltage operation (VD=60V), the field effect mobility increased up to $11.45cm^2{\cdot}V-1{\cdot}s-1$. These all alkali metal doped ZnO TFTs were fabricated at maximum process temperature as low as $300^{\circ}C$. Moreover, low-voltage operating ZnO TFTs was fabricated with the ion gel gate dielectrics. The ultra high capacitance of the ion gel gate dielectrics allowed high on-current operation at low voltage. These devices also showed excellent operational stability.
