Cementation and solvent extraction processes were studied to separate nickel and iron ions from the $H_2SO_4$ leaching solution with 47 g/L $Fe(Fe^{2+}/Fe^{3+}=1.03),$, 23.5 g/L Ni and 0.90M $H_2SO_4$ which leached from Fe-Ni alloy. Iron powder was used as a reducing agent for the cementation of Ni ion from the leaching solution. The reduction percentage of Ni ion was $17{\sim}20%$ by adding 4 times stoichiometric amount of iron powder at $60{\sim}80$. This may result from the fact that the cementation of Ni ion occurred after the reduction of $Fe^{3+}$ to $Fe^{2+}$ and the neutralization of $H_2SO_4$ with iron powder. The cementation process was proved to be unfeasible for the separation/recovery of Ni ion from the leaching solution including $Fe^{3+}$ as a major component. $Fe^{2+}$ present in the leaching solution was converted to $Fe^{3+}$ for solvent extraction of Fe ion using D2EHPA in kerosene as a extractant. The oxidation of $Fe^{2+}$ to $Fe^{3+}$ was completed by the addition of 1.2 times stoichiometric amount of 35% $H_2SO_4$. 99.6% $Fe^{3+}$ was extracted from the leaching solution (23.5 g/L $Fe^{3+}$) by 4 stages cross-current extraction using 20 vol.% D2EHPA in kerosene. $NiSO_4$ solution with 98.5% purity was recovered from the $H_2SO_4$ leaching solution of scrapped Fe-Ni alloy.

The efflorescence mechanism of ceramic bodies with different sintering temperature was studied by quantitative analysis for the effect of various metal ions and anions. SEM and EDS characterization for efflorescence formed on the surface of the ceramic body showed that the main components of the efflorescence were Ca and S atoms. Leaching concentrations of various metal ions and anions for the ceramic bodies prepared by wet mixing with pH 7 and pH 10 were evaluated by ICP and IC analysis. The results of leaching test showed that the concentration of Ca ion at pH 7 body was eight times more than that of pH 10 body. Ca-rich efflorescence was not formed on the surface of ceramic body which prepared at pH 10 and sintered over $1100^{\circ}C$.
A sulfuric acid leaching of $LiCoO_2$as cathodic active materials of lithium ion secondary batteries was investigated in terms of reaction variables. In the absence of a reducing agent, the extraction of cobalt was less than 40% in 2 M sulfuric acid at $75^{\circ}C$ instead of that of lithium could be almost 100% in the same conditions. To improve the Co extraction, hydrogen peroxide was used as a reducing agent in the range 2~20 vol%. When over 10vo1% hydrogen peroxide was added, the extractions of both metals were improved to about 95%. It seems to be due to the reduction of Co(III) to Co(II) that can be readily dissolved. The extractions of Co and Li were increased with increasing $H_2$$SO_4$concentration and temperature, and amount of hydrogen peroxide and with decreasing of pulp density. The optimum leaching conditions were determined at $2 M H_2$$SO_4$concentration, $75^{\circ}C$ operating temperature, 100 g/L. initial pulp density, 20 vol% $H_2$$O_2$addition and 30 min.
A study on the recovery of lithium and leaching behavior of NCM powder by carbon reduction for NCM-system Li-ion battery scraps was conducted. First of all, the oxide powders of NCM-system with layer structure were decomposed by carbon, lithium was converted to lithium carbonate by carbon reaction at above $600^{\circ}C$. The lithium carbonate powders with 99% purity were manufactured by washing method with water and concentration process for NCM powder after carbon reduction. The reaction yield was approximately 88% at $800^{\circ}C$ by carbon reduction. At this time, leaching efficiency at 2M sulfuric acid concentration was over 99% for cobalt, nickel and manganese.

Leaching experiments from single metal and metallic mixtures were conducted to develop a process for the recovery of cobalt, copper, and nickel in spent lithium ion batteries. Inorganic and organic acid solutions without oxidizing agents were employed. No copper was dissolved in the absence of an oxidizing agent in the leaching solutions. The leaching condition to completely dissolve single metal of cobalt and nickel was determined based on acid concentration, reaction temperature and time, and pulp density. The leaching condition to dissolve all of cobalt and nickel from the metallic mixtures was also obtained. Leaching of the metallic mixture with methanesulfonic acid led to selective dissolution of cobalt at low temperatures.
Glasses of Na2O-Al2O3-SiO2 system were prepared and ion-exchange characteristics change of properties and bactericidal effects by Na+↔Ag+ ion exchange were studied. Parent glasses with three compositions of varying Na2O in the 20~30 wt% were ion-exchanged in the molten salt of 2 mol% AgNO3+98 mol% NaNO3 at 320~36$0^{\circ}C$ for 15~16min. Amount of ion exchange and penetration depth of Ag+ ion increased with Na2O content in the parent glass ion exchange temperature and time. After ion exchange densities and Vickers hardness of the glasses increased and the glasses showed yellow-brown color and as amount of ion exchange increased the color turned deep because partial reduction and agglomeration of Ag+ into Ag0 results in absorption of visible light. After ion exchange chemical durability of the glass to wter was enhanced compara-bly that weight loss and change of surface of the glass were not found for the leaching test in 5$0^{\circ}C$ K.I water for 240hrs. Bactericidal effect of ion exchanged glass on Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli was determined by microorganism test and bactericidal effect increased with amount of ion exchange and incubation time.
An agricultural land application of swine slurry is one of the best management practices in Jeju island whose ground water must be protected. So as to study the effect of appling swine slurry on ground water or aquifer, incubation-leaching technique was used by assuming the incubating period of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32 days, and application rate of 3200.0 mgT-N/$\ell$ , 820.0 mgT-P/$\ell$, and 1887.0 mgK$\^$+/$\ell$ in swine slurry. The leachates were collected from the soil columns(PVC 30 cm L${\times}$5.5 cm D) packed 15cm in depth with Gangjeong soil series by washing with 100 mL distilled water. The leached components were measured by using ion chromatography far Cl$\^$-/, NO$_3$-N, F$\^$-/, Br$\^$-/, Na$\^$+/, K$\^$+/, Ca$^2$$\^$+/, and Mg$^2$$\^$+/ , atomic absorption spectrophotometry for Fe and Mn, and UV-Vis spectrophotometry for T-N and T-p. Application of swine slurry in naked soil could influence on the ground water or aquifer by increasing nitrate-nitrogen in leachate with time, or leaching the cations present in soils in accompany with anions because of H$\^$+/produced in nitrification. Therefore, careful consideration should be taken about what amount, when, where, and how fur protecting ground water system.
The special properties of silver are often indispensable in the manufacture of advanced materials. Therefore, it is of importance to develop a process to recover silver which is necessary for the production of advanced materials from diverse resources. In this manuscript, the developed processes for the leaching of silver from diverse resources are reviewed. For this purpose, the advantages and disadvantages of using some inorganic acids (nitric and sulfuric acid) and their mixture with other oxidizing agents (ozone, oxygen, hydrogen peroxide and ferric ion) were investigated. Moreover, the leaching of silver with thiourea and thiosulfate was compared over those by inorganic acids in terms of environmental effect.

In general, municipal solid waste incinerator fly ash (MSWIF) has a potential hazardous leaching of heavy metal with subsurface environment variation. Therefore, to remove the heavy metal from MSWIF electrokinetic technology were used. With constant current density condition heavy metals in MSWIF removed by ion migration. During 7 days operation 40~80% of Cr, Cd and As were removed and longer operation, 14 days treatment, showed 35~100% removal efficiency.
These studies were carried out to investigate the effects of potassium salts on the changes of chemical properties in submerged soil. Rice plants were cultured in submerged soil using potassium salts. Obtained results were as follows. In the submerged soil cultured with rice plants the value of pH was higher in the potassium chloride plot than in the potassium sulfate plot. The leaching of cations such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and ammonium were higher in the potassium chloride plot than in the potassium sulfate plot. On the other hand, the leaching of phosphate ion was slightly higher in the potassium sulfate plot than in the potassium chloride plot. The leaching of iron was higher in the planted plot than in the non-planted plot, but that of silica was higher in the non-planted plot than in the planted plot. However, the leaching of iron and silica was not affected by potassium salts.
