Phosphorous was deped in silicon thin films by Ion Mass Doping and Changes in the electrical resistance with respect tko heat treatments were investigated. SOI(Silicon On Insulator) thin films which contain few grain boundaries prepared by ZMR(Zone Melting Recrystallization) of polysilicon films, polysilicon films which have about 1500 $A^{\rarw}$ of grain size prepared by LPCVD at 625.deg. C, and amorphous silicon thin films prepared by LPCVD at low temperature were used as substrates and thermal behavior of phosphorous after RTA(Rapid Thermal Annealing) and furnace annealing was carefully studied. Amorphous thin films showed about 10$^{6}$ .OMEGA./ㅁbefore any heat treatment, while polycrystalline and SOI films about 10$^{3}$.OMEGA./¤. All these films, however, showed about 10.OMEGA./ㅁafter furnace annealing at 700.deg. C for 3hrs and RTA showed about the same trend. Films with grain boundaries showed a certain range of heat treatment which rendered increase of the electrical resistance upon annealing, which could not be observed in amorphous films and segregation of doped phosphorous by diffusion with annealing was thought to be responsible for this abnormal behavior.
Minute boehmite crystals with high aspect rations, which were hydrothermally synthesized from gibbsite in $Ba(OH)_2$ solution, occluded Ba with the Ba/Al molar ratio of about 0.03 in their interlayers. Their surface areas were about 14$\m^2$/g. The Ba-intercalated bohemite samples were partly used for producing $BaAl_{12}O){19}$ with low sinterability by externally supplementing $Ba(OH)_2$, and for forming transient aluminas. The surface area of $BaAl_{12}O){19}$ obtained by firing at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 3 h was 5.3$\m^2$/g, which was significantly lower than 12$\m^2$/g of the sol-gel origin. While a mixture ${\gamma}$-alumina and BaO is known to from $BaAl_{12}O){19}$ at $1200^{\circ}C$, solid state reaction between η-alumina transformed from the Ba-intercalated boehmite and BaO formed from $Ba(OH)_2$ deposited on the boehmite started above $1300^{\circ}C$. This suggests that large sized $Ba^{2+}$ ion occluded in η-alumina considerably suppresses the diffusion of $Al^{3+}$ ion. The surface area of the Ba-intercalated boehmite fired at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 3h was as high as 14$\m^2$/g indicative of its potential applicability to combustion catalysts. But it was decreased to 5.0$\m^2$/g after firing at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 3 h, accompanied by abrupt formations of $\alpha$-alumina and $BaAl_{12}O){19}$ as main products. The suppression of $\alpha$-alumina formation up to $1400^{\circ}C$ also suggests the significant blocking effect of $Ba^{2+}$ ion on the diffusion of the component ions.
In the present study, a simple corona-wire charger for unipolar diffusion charging of aerosol particles is designed, constructed, and characterized. Experimental characterizations of the electrostatic discharge in terms of current-voltage relationships of positive and negative coronas of the corona-wire charger are also presented and discussed. The charging current and ion concentration in the charging zone increased monotonically with corona voltage. The negative corona showed higher current than the positive corona. At the same corona voltages, the current in the discharge zone is about 600 times larger than the charging current. The ion number concentrations ranged within approximately $5.0{\times}10^{10}$ to $1.24{\times}10^{16}$ and $4.5{\times}10^{12}$ to $2{\times}10^{16}$ ions/$m^3$ in the discharge and charging zones, respectively. A numerical model is used to predict the behavior of the electric potential lines. Numerical results of ion penetration through the inner electrode are in good agreement with the experimental results.
Concrete is a durable and cost-benefit construction material, however performance degradation occurs due to steel corrosion exposed to chloride attack. Penetration of chloride ion usually decreases due to hydrates formation and reduction of pores, and the reduced chloride behavior is considered through decreasing diffusion coefficient with time. In the work, HPC (High Performance Concrete) samples are prepared with 3 levels of W/B (water to binder) ratios of 0.37, 0.42, and 0.27 and 3 levels of replacement ratios of 0%, 30% and 50%. Several tests containing chloride diffusion coefficient, passed charge, and compressive strength are performed considering age effect of 28 days and 180 days. Chloride diffusion is more reduced in OPC concrete with lower W/B ratio and GGBFS concrete with 50% replacement ratio shows significant reduction of chloride diffusion in higher W/B ratio. At the age of 28 days, GGBFS concrete with 50% replacement ratio shows more rapid reduction of chloride diffusion than strength development, which reveals that abundant GGBFS replacement has effective resistance to chloride penetration even in the early-aged condition.
Durability is a major concern in the design and construction of concrete structures which are located in the sea environments. In particular, the combined action of chlorides, sulfates, and carbonation nay influence greatly the deterioration behavior of concrete structures. The purpose of the present study is to explore the diffusion characteristics of chloride ions in concrete structures under combined deterioration conditions. The present test results indicate that the chloride penetration into concrete structures is more pronounced under combined attacks of chlorides, sulfates and carbonation. The diffusion coefficients and surface chloride contents were found to increase under combined multiple deterioration conditions. The present study provides quantitatively the penetration and diffusion characteristics of chloride ions in concrete structures under various deterioration conditions. The results of present study may be efficiently used for the realistic design of concrete structures under combined deterioration conditions.

Concrete behavior in early-age is changing due to hydration reaction with time, and a resistance to chloride attack and strength development are different characterized. In the present work, changing strength and resistance to chloride attack are evaluated with ages from 28 days to 6 months. For the purpose, strength, diffusion coefficient, and passed charge are evaluated for normal concrete with 3 different mix proportions considering 28-day and 6-month curing conditions. With increasing concrete age, the changing ratio of strength falls on the level of 135.3~138.3%, while diffusion coefficient and passed charge shows 41.8%~51.1% and 53.6%~70.0%, respectively. The results of chloride diffusion coefficient and passed charge show relatively similar changing ratios since they are much dependent on the chloride migration velocity in electrical field. The changing ratios in chloride behaviors are evaluated to be much larger than those in compressive strength since the ion transport mechanism is proportional to not porosity but square of porosity.

Thermal behavior of residue and damaged layer formed by reactive ion etching (RIE) in $CHF_3/C_2F_6$ were investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and secondary ion mass spec-trometry(SIMS) techniques. Decomposition of polymer residue film begins at $200^{\circ}C$ and above $400^{\circ}C$ carbon compound as graphite mainly forms by in-situ resistive heating. It reveals that thermal decomposition of residue can be completed by rapid thermal anneal treatment above $800^{\circ}C$ under nitrogen atmosphere and out-diffusion of carbon and fluorine of damaged layer is observed.
Climate change is a very vital issue that can be no longer avoided. Korea has been a top-level country Iin dealing with carbon dioxide emissions since 1960. Many studies have been conducted to suppress or eliminate carbon dioxide emissions, which account for a large portion of greenhouse gases. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), the most practical method of them, plays a significant role. However, these methods have the disadvantage of the limits of geographical distribution and high possibility of re-emission into the atmosphere. Recently, ocean storage has been studied using Accelerated Weathering of Limestone (AWL), a technique for storing carbon dioxide in the ocean as an alternative to CCS, an underground storage. AWL is a method of converting carbon dioxide into concentrated water in the form of bicarbonate ion and discharging it to the ocean to dilute and store it. It does not cause re-emission to the atmosphere, and the discharged concentrated water increases the alkalinity of the ocean to prevent marine acidification. The objective of this study was to understand the behavior of DIC (Dissolved Inorganic Carbon) including carbon dioxide during the ocean discharge of bicarbonate ion concentrated water in AWL method. This study area was set near Ulleung-do where sufficient water depth and operational efficiency were secured. CORMIX model was used to calculate the material diffusion by submerged discharge using ship.
Stress corrosion cracks in Alloy 600 compact tension specimens tested at $325^{\circ}C$ in a simulated primary water environment of pressurized water reactor were analyzed by analytical transmission electron microscopy and secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS). From a fine-probe chemical analysis, oxygen was found on the grain boundary just ahead of the crack tip, and chromium oxides were precipitated on the crack tip and the grain boundary attacked by the oxygen diffusion, leaving a Cr/Fe depletion (or Ni enrichment) zone. The oxide layer inside the crack was revealed to consist of a double (inner and outer) layer. Chromium oxides existed in the inner layer, with NiO and (Ni,Cr) spinels in the outer layer. From the nano-SIMS analysis, oxygen was detected at the locations of intergranular chromium carbides ahead of the crack tip, which means that oxygen diffused into the grain boundary and oxidized the surfaces of the chromium carbides. The intergranular chromium carbide blunted the crack tip, thereby suppressing the crack propagation.
PURPOSE. This study investigated the effects of silver nanoparticle (SN) loading into hydraulic calcium silicate-based Portland cement on its mechanical, antibacterial behavior and biocompatibility as a novel dental bone substitute. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Chemically reduced colloidal SN were combined with Portland cement (PC) by the concentrations of 0 (control), 1.0, 3.0, and 5.0 wt%. The physico-mechanical properties of silver-Portland cement nanocomposites (SPNC) were investigated through X-ray diffraction (XRD), setting time, compressive strength, solubility, and silver ion elution. Antimicrobial properties of SPNC were tested by agar diffusion against Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus. Cytotoxic evaluation for human gingival fibroblast (HGF) was performed by MTS assay. RESULTS. XRD certified that SN was successfully impregnated in PC. SPNC at above 3.0 wt% significantly reduced both initial and final setting times compared to control PC. No statistical differences of the compressive strength values were detected after SN loadings, and solubility rates of SPNC were below 3.0%, which are acceptable by ADA guidelines. Ag ion elutions from SPNC were confirmed with dose-dependence on the concentrations of SN added. SPNC of 5.0 wt% inhibited the growth of Streptococci, whereas no antimicrobial activity was shown in control PC. SPNC revealed no cytotoxic effects to HGF following ISO 10993 (cell viability > 70%). CONCLUSION. Addition of SN promoted the antibacterial activity and favored the bio-mechanical properties of PC; thus, SPNC could be a candidate for the futuristic dental biomaterial. For clinical warrant, further studies including the inhibitory mechanism, in vivo and long-term researches are still required.
