With the recent expansion of electric kickboards and bicycle sharing services, more and more people use them. In addition, the rapid growth of the delivery business due to the COVID-19 has significantly increased the use of two-wheeled vehicles and personal mobility. As the accident rate increases, the rule related to the two-wheeled vehicles is changed to 'mandatory helmets for kickboards and single-person transportation' and was revised to prevent boarding itself without driver's license. In this paper, we propose a wearable smart safety equipment, called SafetyHelmet, that can keep helmet-wearing duty and lower the accident rate with the communication between helmets and mobile devices. To make this function available, we propose a safe driving assistance function by notifying the driver when an object that interferes with driving such as persons or other vehicles are detected by applying the YOLO v5 object detection algorithm. Therefore it is intended to provide a safer driving assistance by reducing the failure rate to identify dangers while driving single-person transportation.

Recently, many attempts have been made to reduce the time required for payment in various shopping environments. In addition, for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, artificial intelligence is advancing, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices are becoming more compact and cheaper. So, by integrating these two technologies, access to building an unmanned environment to save people time has become easier. In this paper, we propose a smart shopping cart system based on low-cost IoT equipment and deep-learning object-detection technology. The proposed smart cart system consists of a camera for real-time product detection, an ultrasonic sensor that acts as a trigger, a weight sensor to determine whether a product is put into or taken out of the shopping cart, an application for smartphones that provides a user interface for a virtual shopping cart, and a deep learning server where learned product data are stored. Communication between each module is through Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, a Hypertext Transmission Protocol network, a You Only Look Once darknet library, and an object detection system used by the server to recognize products. The user can check a list of items put into the smart cart via the smartphone app, and can automatically pay for them. The smart cart system proposed in this paper can be applied to unmanned stores with high cost-effectiveness.

Real-time location-sensing technology using location information collected from IoT devices is being applied for safety management purposes in many industries, such as ports. On the other hand, positional error is always present owing to the characteristics of GPS. Therefore, accident-risk detection algorithms must consider positional error. This paper proposes an methodology of calibration for falling object accident-risk-zone approach detection algorithm considering GPS errors. A probability density function was estimated, with positional error data collected from IoT devices as a probability variable. As a result of the verification, the algorithm showed a detection accuracy of 93% and 77%. Overall, the analysis results derived according to the GPS error level will be an important criterion for upgrading algorithms and real-time risk managements in the future.

In modern society, the use of the image processing field is increasing rapidly due to the 4th industrial revolution and the development of IoT technology. In particular, edge detection is widely used in various fields as an essential preprocessing process in image processing applications such as image classification and object detection. Conventional methods for detecting an edge include a Sobel edge detection filter, a Roberts edge detection filter, a Prewitt edge detection filter, Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG), and the like. However, existing methods have the disadvantage of showing somewhat insufficient performance of edge detection characteristics in a low-light level environment with low contrast. Therefore, this paper proposes an edge detection algorithm based on contrast analysis to increase edge detection characteristics even in low-light level environments.
Recently, object recognition technology using computer vision has attracted attention as a technology to replace sensor-based object recognition technology. It is often difficult to commercialize sensor-based object recognition technology because such approach requires an expensive sensor. On the other hand, object recognition technology using computer vision may replace sensors with inexpensive cameras. Moreover, Real-time recognition is viable due to the growth of CNN, which is actively introduced into other fields such as IoT and autonomous vehicles. Because object recognition model applications demand expert knowledge on deep learning to select and learn the model, such method, however, is challenging for non-experts to use it. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the structure of deep - learning - based object recognition models, and propose a platform that can automatically select a deep - running object recognition model based on a user 's desired condition. We also present the reason we need to select statistics-based object recognition model through conducted experiments on different models.
Being a dense and complex task of precisely detecting the weeds in practical crop field environment, previous approaches lack in terms of speed of processing image frames with accuracy. Although much of the attention has been given to classify the plants diseases but detecting crop weed issue remained in limelight. Previous approaches report to use fast algorithms but inference time is not even closer to real time, making them impractical solutions to be used in uncontrolled conditions. Therefore, we propose a detection model for the complex rice weed detection task. Experimental results show that inference time in our approach is reduced with a significant margin in weed detection task, making it practically deployable application in real conditions. The samples are collected at two different growth stages of rice and annotated manually

Recently, AI, big data, and IoT technologies are being used in various solutions such as fire detection and gas or dangerous substance detection for safety accident prevention. According to the status of occupational accidents published by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in 2021, the accident rate, the number of injured, and the number of deaths have increased compared to 2020. In this paper, referring to the dataset construction guidelines provided by the National Intelligence Service Agency(NIA), the dataset is directly collected from the field and learned with YOLOv4 to propose a collision risk object detection system through object detection. The accuracy of the dangerous situation rule violation was 88% indoors and 92% outdoors. Through this system, it is thought that it will be possible to analyze safety accidents that occur in industrial sites in advance and use them to intelligent platforms research.

With the development of IoT and AI technologies and media, various digital devices are being used, and unmanned and automation is progressing rapidly. In particular, high-level image processing technology is required in fields such as smart factories, autonomous driving technology, and intelligent CCTV. However, noise present in the image affects processes such as edge detection and object recognition, and causes deterioration of system accuracy and reliability. In this paper, we propose a filtering algorithm using fuzzy weights to reconstruct images damaged by complex noise. The proposed algorithm obtains a reference value using noise judgment and calculates the final output by applying a fuzzy weight. Simulation was conducted to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, and the result image was compared with the existing filter algorithm and evaluated.

AI-based image processing technologies in various fields have been widely studied. However, the lighter the board, the more difficult it is to reduce the weight of image processing algorithm due to a lot of computation. In this paper, we propose a method using deep learning for object recognition algorithm in lightweight embedded boards. We can determine the area using a deep neural network architecture algorithm that processes semantic segmentation with a relatively small amount of computation. After masking the area, by using more accurate deep learning algorithm we could operate object detection with improved accuracy for efficient neural network (ENet) and You Only Look Once (YOLO) toward executing object recognition in real time for lightweighted embedded boards. This research is expected to be used for autonomous driving applications, which have to be much lighter and cheaper than the existing approaches used for object recognition.
In line with the trend of industrial innovation, IoT technology utilized in a variety of fields is emerging as a key element in creation of new business models and the provision of user-friendly services through the combination of big data. The accumulated data from devices with the Internet-of-Things (IoT) is being used in many ways to build a convenience-based smart system as it can provide customized intelligent systems through user environment and pattern analysis. Recently, it has been applied to innovation in the public domain and has been using it for smart city and smart transportation, such as solving traffic and crime problems using CCTV. In particular, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the easiness of securing real-time service data and the stability of security when planning underground services or establishing movement amount control information system to enhance citizens' or commuters' convenience in circumstances with the congestion of public transportation such as subways, urban railways, etc. However, previous studies that utilize image data have limitations in reducing the performance of object detection under private issue and abnormal conditions. The IoT device-based sensor data used in this study is free from private issue because it does not require identification for individuals, and can be effectively utilized to build intelligent public services for unspecified people. Especially, sensor data stored by the IoT device need not be identified to an individual, and can be effectively utilized for constructing intelligent public services for many and unspecified people as data free form private issue. We utilize the IoT-based infrared sensor devices for an intelligent pedestrian tracking system in metro service which many people use on a daily basis and temperature data measured by sensors are therein transmitted in real time. The experimental environment for collecting data detected in real time from sensors was established for the equally-spaced midpoints of 4×4 upper parts in the ceiling of subway entrances where the actual movement amount of passengers is high, and it measured the temperature change for objects entering and leaving the detection spots. The measured data have gone through a preprocessing in which the reference values for 16 different areas are set and the difference values between the temperatures in 16 distinct areas and their reference values per unit of time are calculated. This corresponds to the methodology that maximizes movement within the detection area. In addition, the size of the data was increased by 10 times in order to more sensitively reflect the difference in temperature by area. For example, if the temperature data collected from the sensor at a given time were 28.5℃, the data analysis was conducted by changing the value to 285. As above, the data collected from sensors have the characteristics of time series data and image data with 4×4 resolution. Reflecting the characteristics of the measured, preprocessed data, we finally propose a hybrid algorithm that combines CNN in superior performance for image classification and LSTM, especially suitable for analyzing time series data, as referred to CNN-LSTM (Convolutional Neural Network-Long Short Term Memory). In the study, the CNN-LSTM algorithm is used to predict the number of passing persons in one of 4×4 detection areas. We verified the validation of the proposed model by taking performance comparison with other artificial intelligence algorithms such as Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) and RNN-LSTM (Recurrent Neural Network-Long Short Term Memory). As a result of the experiment, proposed CNN-LSTM hybrid model compared to MLP, LSTM and RNN-LSTM has the best predictive performance. By utilizing the proposed devices and models, it is expected various metro services will be provided with no illegal issue about the personal information such as real-time monitoring of public transport facilities and emergency situation response services on the basis of congestion. However, the data have been collected by selecting one side of the entrances as the subject of analysis, and the data collected for a short period of time have been applied to the prediction. There exists the limitation that the verification of application in other environments needs to be carried out. In the future, it is expected that more reliability will be provided for the proposed model if experimental data is sufficiently collected in various environments or if learning data is further configured by measuring data in other sensors.
