  • Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are one of the basic building blocks of Internet of Things (IoT) systems. However, the wireless sensing nodes in WSNs suffer from energy constraint issues because the replacement/recharging of the batteries of the nodes tends to be difficult. Furthermore, a number of realistic IoT scenarios, such as habitat and battlefield monitoring, contain mobile sensing elements, which makes the energy issues more critical. This research paper focuses on realistic WSN scenarios that involve mobile sensing elements with the aim of mitigating the attendant energy constraint issues using the concept of radio-frequency (RF) energy extraction. The proposed technique incorporates a cluster head election workflow for WSNs that includes mobile sensing elements capable of RF energy harvesting. The extensive simulation analysis demonstrated the higher efficacy of the proposed technique compared with the existing techniques in terms of residual energy, number of functional nodes, and network lifetime, with approximately 50% of the nodes found to be functional at the 4000th, 5000th, and 6000th rounds for the proposed technique with initial energies of 0.25, 0.5 and 1 J, respectively.

  • A monitoring system was constructed to identify the cause of occurrence based on data on the analysis of the ignition factors of fermentation heat generated from loading waste. Universal Middleware was used to provide a real-time run-time environment for the configuration and speed of scenarios for each type of fire early warning. It is necessary to dynamically recognize the loading height and pressure of the loading waste, the drying of wood, batteries, and plastic waste, which are representative compositional wastes, and the carbonization changes on the surface. Therefore, this IoT situation recognition platform for analyzing low-temperature-fired fire possibility data was dynamically configured and presented.

  • Usage of a face mask has become mandatory in many countries after the COVID-19. This paper described to develop a IoT based smart mask system for monitoring face mask. The system developed in this paper has two main units, a sensor module, and a smartphone application. The sensor module consists of four components: temperature and humidity sensor, a heart rate sensor, and a BLE chip. This components work as a unit to collect data and stream them through an I2C port over BLE to a connected mobile device. The smartphone application is an Android application developed for smart phones. It enables the Android device to communicate with the sensor to receive sensor data, process, store and display results.

  • The idea of the Internet of Things as a platform on the Smart Campus has become increasingly popular. It requires an infrastructure consisting of communication networks, sensor nodes and gateways to connect to the Internet. Each sensor node is responsible for gathering data from the environment. This document outlines a network of wireless sensors on the Internet for the application of Smart Campus monitoring. Wireless sensor network Monitoring have become a complete solution to using a low power implementation and integrated systems. The numerous restrictions however result from the low communication range, the limited computing power, the lack of availability of the network protocol, the lack of programming security and the security failures in the areas of confidentiality, integrity and availability. A new security technique and its functionality for WSNM nodes developed. Development in the research of a secure network and suggestions for avoiding denial of service (DOS) and complexity attacks. These systems if properly implemented can provide an energy efficiency mechanism through pre-allocation and a new key from key management models with a secure routine algorithm.

  • Infrastructure is rapidly growing as Internet business grows with the latest IT technologies such as IoT, BigData, and AI. However, in most companies, a limited number of people need to manage a lot of hardware and software. Therefore, Polestar Enterprise Management System(PEMS) is applied to monitor the system operation status, IT service and key KPI monitoring. Real-time monitor screening prevents system malfunctions and quick response. With PEMS, you can see configuration information related to IT hardware and software at a glance, and monitor performance throughout the entire end-to-end period to see when problems occur in real time.

  • Recently, energy resource management is a major concern around the world. Energy management activities minimize environmental impacts of the energy production. This paper presents design and prototyping of a home electric energy monitoring system that provides residential consumers with real time information about their electricity use. The developed system is composed of an in-house sensing system and a server system. The in-home sensing system is a set of wireless smart plug which have an AC power socket, a relay to switch the socket ON/OFF, a CT sensor to sense current of load appliance and a Kmote. The Kmote is a wireless communication interface based on TinyOS. Each sensing node sends its detection signal to a home gateway via wireless link. The home gateway stores the received signals into a remote database. The server system is composed of a database server and a web server, which provides web-based monitoring system to residential consumers. We analyzed and presented energy consumption data from electrical appliances for 3 months in home. The experimental results show the promising possibilities to estimate the energy consumption patterns and the current status.

  • In this paper, we propose the reefer container monitoring system that not only monitors internal temperature, humidity of reefer container but also tracks the real-time location using GPS. It consists of a tag of information of situation using 433MHz RF transmitter(communication), GPS to track the real-time location and a device using WCDMA/GSM communication to transmit information to the server. We tested by applying the proposed system in reefer containers with yellow melons, melons transported from Korea to Singapore to track the location and check the temperature and the humidity. The result of this test is that there is a temperature difference around 1.7 degree depending on the position of inside of container and maintains the humidity stably about 97%. If we apply this proposed system to agricultural marketing, it is possible to get the time that fruits start to decay and minimize the loss of fruits by decaying during shipping.

  • A smart home system improves the elderly's quality of life by monitoring and analyzing their movements and health conditions with better health-care and social support services. Therefore, there has been an effort to adopt a smart home system for the independently living elderly. However, to the best of our knowledge, no study has investigated the usability of a smart home system on actual independently living elderly housing in long-term settings. Thus, this study aims to demonstrate the usability of a smart home system on independently living elders in living lab conditions. The BLE smart band and the BLE receiver were chosen for the smart home system to monitor the movement of the participants in their homes as well as to monitor the heart rates, step counts, sleep index. Nine independent living elderly from the senior welfare center in Kimjae participated in this living lab demonstration experiment for ten months. This demonstration experiment confirmed the effectiveness of low-cost and easily adoptable IoT-based BLE sensor sets on independent living elders and discussed the troubles and limitations of the experiment. By grasping the pros and cons of IoT-based BLE sensor sets, this study seeks to improve the accessibility and usability of smart home systems for the elderly population in independent living arrangements.
