  • Building structures are generally large in size and have a long life, and the construction of such structures requires the investment of a huge amount of money and social infrastructure. Furthermore, building structures are closely related to people's life. Recently, however, the rapid development of society has been worsening air pollution, which is in turn accelerating the degradation of building structures. Thus, the safety of building structure is emerging as a critical issue. To cope with this problem, the government enacted "The Special Act on Safety Control for Infrastructure" but we need engineers' higher concern over the maintenance and reinforcement of existing structures. Recently researches are being made actively on repair mortar using ultra rapid hardening cement for recovering the performance of structures. The present study conducted an experiment on the basic physical properties of ultra rapid hardening mortar for repairing and reinforcing building structures using magnesia cement and mono-ammonium phosphate. In the experiment, we changed the water-cement ratio and carried out replacement at different ratio of MAP/MgO(%). We used retarder to have working life, and made comparative analysis through evaluating working life and fluidity and measuring strength by age.

  • This paper suggests a way of estimating the value of interclass equity improvement by railway operations. Equity is understood in this paper in the context of a mobility gap between classes. The value of the reduced mobility gap by railway operations is interpreted as an increase of social equity. In particular, the unit value of equity improvement by rail services is quantified based on the amount of fare reduction through public service obligations. The difference in the surplus calculation between elastic and inelastic demands relative to the reduction is also discussed. The result of this study is expected to be helpful of performing more cautious appraisal for rail investment schemes.

  • The Kuroko-type seafloor massive sulfide deposits found in the western Pacific have been considered to have potentials for economic recovery of Au, Ag, Cu, Zn, and Pb. In this study, a preliminary model was developed for the technical and economic evaluation of them. The FRSC site on Lau Basin in the Tonga EEZ was selected as a target. In this study, no construction In for the metallurgical processing subsystem was accounted for. Instead, it was assumed to sell the Cu, Zn, and Pb concentrates to the existing sulfide customer smelter. The low total investment costs for the development make the venture very attractive. However, the result of the economic feasibility evaluation is still less attractive with the mean metal yield of the Kuroko on land. It is considered that commercial mining may be plausible if the richer metal yields are applied to the development. Quantitative information for metal yield is necessary for a more accurate evaluation. However, the important resource potential information regarding the amount of ore body, the inside structure, and the metal yields have not yet been clarified sufficiently. h addition, the flotation of ore body using seawater has not been tested yet. It is necessary to solve these problems through the experimental R&D and a survey.

  • In order to examine the feasibility of Carbon Capture & Sequestration, a major technological strategy for the national goal of greenhouse gas reduction, this paper studies the various methods and corresponding costs for the transportation of $CO_2$ captured at the domestic thermal power plants, as well as performing comparative analysis with overseas CCS demonstration projects. It is predicted that the investment cost would be about 98 million USD when the using land-based pipelines to transport captured $CO_2$ from the thermal power plant located in the south coast. And using marine-based offshore pipelines, it will cost about twice the amount. When the captured $CO_2$ is transported from the power plant in the west coast instead, the cost is expected to increase substantially due to the transportation distance to the storage site being more than double to that of the south coast power plant case.

  • Russia has a huge amount of energy resources. It is an attractive factor to countries which spend loads of energy. Republic of Korea is also one of large energy consumption countries. Therefore, It will be needed to raise energy cooperation with Russia. It's companies will increase trade focusing on the energy industry in the long term. Recently, However, Foreign companies should be careful when they enter the rapidly changing Russia market. In other words, companies will need a strategic approach to prepare the early case assessment and how to solve a possible dispute as they analyze cost and profit in business. This study is analyzing several dispute cases related in Russia. It presents some strategies for Korean companies such as dispute resolution method, arbitration institution selection method and so on. In addition, it proposes the introduction of the early case assessment for reducing a waste of time and cost. Furthermore, according as the importance of OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises is highlighted in international community, companies should prepare practical division to establish a system of responsible business conduct. Finally, they will have to get an advice and counseling from the Russia legal experts in the early stages of the contract.

  • After the 1970s, the importance of underground transmission systems increased and the construction rate of underground transmission lines also showed increasing trends each year, especially in metropolitan areas. Accordingly the social ripple effects are very large and wide when the fault occurs in underground power system, and the amount of time and money spent to restore the system also increases. So we must ensure stable operation and long-term reliability of the facilities. In Korea's case, long-term reliability tests for EHV power cables and accessories progressed poorly because equipment was not compatible for long-term reliability tests. Therefore we planned to construct a long-term reliability test field for EHV underground cables in order to ensure international quality reliability and optimal power cable operation techniques. The Gochang Underground Cable Test Field is under construction, funded by the Korean government, the govenment's union investment department, KEPCO, KERI and three private cable corporations. This project began in March, 2005 and will be completed by February, 2010. It is designed to promote joint research by incorporating several types of test equipment, construction of operating facilities, and being an internationally certified authority.

  • In order to make higher domestic self-sufficiency ratio of energy resources, these are required to purchase the producing oil & gas fields through the investment of oversea petroleum development, to make M&A, and to enhance recovery in the existing oil & gas fields. For this purpose, it is essential to acquire the core technology regarding the evaluation, design, and management of oil & gas fields. The accumulation of technology of the evaluation, optimal design, proper management of production fields by the help of the continuous R&D program will make great contribution for higher domestic self-sufficiency ratio by the increased number of purchase of foreign producing fields, the increase amount of produced petroleum out of existing fields, and the effective management of the oil and gas fields.

  • Continued R&D investment by the government and corporate support played a major role as the background of the rapid growth of the Republic of Korea. In 2017 of the Republic of Korea, the R&D support size of the government accounted for 19.7 trillion won, accounting for 4.7% of the government budget. Government R&D budgets are increasing by 2.5% each year. In this paper, we analyzed the outcomes of the Busan regional company support project conducted in the 2 years. For the time series analysis, we gathered company support amount by year, sales after company support, employment. We used IBM SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) statistics 18 for correlation analysis.

  • This study intends to explore the relationship between export motivating factors and export channel-structure. Two proactive motivating factors (market-opportunity development and productivity improvement) and one reactive motivating factor (business-risk hedge) were extracted from the survey data collected from Korean exporting firms. The data show that the two proactive motives enhance the likelihood of using the export channels that allow strong controls over export-marketing activities. This study also finds that these proactive motives tend to increase the amount of relationship investment in an export distribution channel.

  • This paper aims to analyze the result of SE Process Implementation on Light Rail Transit(LRT) Project. Currently the Light Rail Transit Project of Korea applies SE to the intermediate phase, that is, E&M phase which is a manufacturing and designing procedure. More seriously, the application effect of SE is not remarkable because it applies to some specific engineering fields like RAMS and it depends on superficial consulting of foreign companies with low SE support capability and investment capital. This study points out that the "Requirement Analysis" and "System Alternative Review" has not been conducted from the initial phase (basic plan and basic design) of the LRT projects. Several projects indicate that the amount of investments for SE activities through the Korea LRT project is relatively very small in comparison with the global capital which is about 10% of total project budget. Furthermore, Korea LRT projects have very few SE professionals and weak SE organization with no government directions and guide book for the efficient implementation of SE for the LRT projects.
