  • Fog can cause large-scale human and economic damages, including traffic systems and agriculture. So, Korea Meteorological Administration is operating about 290 visibility meters to improve the observation level of fog. However, it is still insufficient to detect very localized fog. In this study, high-resolution grid-type visibility data were retrieved from irregularly distributed visibility data across the country. To this end, three objective analysis techniques (Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW), Ordinary Kriging (OK) and Universal Kriging (UK)) were used. To find the best method and parameters, sensitivity test was performed for the effective radius, power parameter and variogram model that affect the level of objective analysis. Also, the effect of data distribution characteristics (level of normality) on the performance level of objective analysis was evaluated. IDW showed a relatively high level of objective analysis in terms of bias, RMSE and correlation, and the performance is inversely proportional to the effective radius and power parameter. However, the two Krigings showed relatively low level of objective analysis, in particular, greatly weakened the variability of the variables, although the level of output was different depending on the variogram model used. As the level of objective analysis is greatly influenced by the distribution characteristics of data, power, and models used, care should be taken when selecting objective analysis techniques and parameters.

  • This paper presents a simplified dynamics model, dynamics simulations, and computed torque control experiments of the Delta high-speed parallel robot. Using the typical Newton-Euler method, a simplified but accurate dynamics model with practical assumptions is derived. Accuracy and fast calculations of the dynamics are essential in the computed torque control for high-speed applications. It was found that the simplified dynamics equation is in very god agreement with the ADAMS model, and the calculation time of the inverse kinematics and inverse dynamics is about 0.04 msec. From the dynamics simulations, the cycle trajectory along the y-axis requires less peak motor torque and a lower angular velocity and less power than that along the x-axis. The computed torque control scheme can reduce the position error by half as compared to a PD control scheme. Finally, the developed Delta parallel robot prototype, half the size of the ABB Flexpicker robot, can achieve a cycle time of 0.43 sec with a 1.0kg payload.

  • Monitoring of the cutting force signals in cutting process has been well emphasized in machine tool communities. Although the cutting force can be directly measured by a tool dynamometer, this method is not always feasible because of high cost and limitations in setup. In this paper an indirect cutting force monitoring system is developed so that the cutting force in turning process is estimated based on a AC spindle drive model. This monitoring system considers the cutting force as a disturbance input to the spindle drive and estimates the cutting force based on the inverse dynamic model. The inverse dynamic model represents the dynamic relation between the cutting force, the motor torque and the motor power. The proposed monitoring system is realized on a CNC lathe and its estimation performance is evaluated experimentally.

  • This study was performed 10 develop the accelerated life test method using Weibull-IPL(Inverse Power Law) model for mechanical components. Weibull-IPL model is concerned with determining the assurance life with confidence level and the accelerated life test time From the relation of weibull distribution factors and confidence limit, the testing times on the no number of failure acceptance criteria arc determined. The mechanical components generally represent wear and fatigue characteristics as a failure mode. IPL based on the cumulative damage theory is applied effectively the mechanical components to reduce the testing time and to achieve the accelerating test conditions. As the actual application example, accelerated life test method of agricultural tractor transmission was described. Life distribution of agricultural tractor transmission was supposed to follow Weibull distribution and life test time was calculated under the conditions of average life (MTBF) 3,000 hours and 90% confidence level for one test sample. According to IPL, because test time call be shorten in case increase test load test time could be reduced by 482 hours when we put the load 1.1 times of rated load than 0.73 times of rated load that is equivalent load calculated by load spectrum of the agricultural tractor. This time, acceleration coefficient was 11.7.

  • RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) system is recognition technology which can maintain various object's information. Reliability of RFID tags is the most important factor in RFID system. In this paper, we proposed ALT (Accelerated Life Test) method for UHF RFID tags. Temperature and humidity were adopted as stress factors and the accelerated life tests were conducted in three different conditions. We performed failure analysis for identifying failure mechanism and statistical analysis of test data. In the statistical analysis, we employed Inverse Power law for relationship between tag's life and stress. Through the statistical analysis, we proposed acceleration factor for several levels of temperature-humidity. The reliability qualification test plans were also designed for the tag's target reliability.

  • This paper designs a looper-tension controller for mass-flow stabilization in hot strip finishing mills. By Newton's 2nd law and Hooke's law, nonlinear dynamic equations on the looper-tension system are firstly derived, and linearized by a linearization algorithm using a Taylor's series expansion. Moreover, a tension calculation model is obtained from the nonlinear dynamic equations which is called as a soft sensor of strip tension between two neighboring stands. Next, a looper-tension servo controller is designed by an ILQ(Inverse Linear Quadratic optimal control) algorithm, and it is combined with a minimal disturbance observer which to attenuate speed disturbances by AGC and operator interventions, etc.. Finally, it is shown from by a computer simulation that the proposed ILQ controller with a disturbance observer is very effective in stabilizing the strip mass-flow under some disturbances, moreover it has a good command following performance.

  • In this paper, an adaptive predistortion scheme is proposed to compensate nonlinear distortions caused by high power amplifiers (HPA) in OFDM systems. A complex Wiener-Hammerstein model (WHM) is used to describe input-output relationship of HPA with linear dynamics. The predistorter is directly identified by complex power series model with memory, which is an approximate inverse of the HPA expressed by the WHM. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive compensation scheme is validated by numerical simulation for 64QAM-OFDM systems.

  • The paper presents a method for controlling induction motors using a nonlinear internal model control (IMC) approach. The process model and the inverse model are developed in the rotor flux coordinate. The main advantage of the proposed method is that it easily specifies the performance (steady state error, transient response, etc.) and the robustness of the controller by means of the IMC filters. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results on a real time system show that the control system has good performance and robustness against changes in motor parameters (rotor and stator resistances, rotor and stator inductances, rotor inertia).

  • In this study, the performance of the NHPP software reliability model with exponential distribution (Exponential Basic, Inverse Exponential, Lindley, Rayleigh) characteristics was comparatively analyzed, and based on this, the optimal reliability model was also presented. To analyze the software failure phenomenon, the failure time data collected during system operation was used, and the parameter estimation was solved by applying the maximum likelihood estimation method (MLE). Through various comparative analysis (mean square error analysis, true value predictive power analysis of average value function, strength function evaluation, and reliability evaluation applied with mission time), it was found that the Lindley model was an efficient model with the best performance. Through this study, the reliability performance of the distribution with the characteristic of the exponential form, which has no existing research case, was newly identified, and through this, basic design data that software developers could use in the initial stage can be presented.

  • Accelerated life testing of product is commonly used to reduced test time and costs. In this papers is considered when the product is a two component system with lifetimes following the bivariate exponential distribution of Sarkar(1987) using inverse power rule model. Also we derived the maximum likelihood estimators of parameters for asymptotic normality. We compare the mean square error of the proposed estimator for the life distribution under use conditions stree through Monte Carlo simulation.
