Literature Review of Psychosocial Problems, Measurement Tools and Intervention Effects in Patients with Cancer (암환자의 심리사회적 기능, 측정 도구 및 중재 효과에 관한 고찰)

  • Purpose: Studies focus on cancer control, prevention, or assessment of psychosocial problems and intervention methods. However, few studies exist concerning psychosocial problems, measuring tools for those problems, and interventions for cancer patients in Korea. One of the purposes of this study was to review studies in this area, to examine various psychosocial problems experienced by cancer patients. This is a crucial area to investigate, since psychosocial problems in turn negatively influence the patients' immune function, which speeds the progress of the disease. Another goal was to identify instruments used to measure psychosocial functioning and problems in cancer patients, to analyze their validity and reliability, with the aim to discover the best instruments. A final goal was to explore and compare the effects of psychosocial interventions, to determine the most effective practices. Method: Journal articles published since 1995 were searched from PubMed Data base, Google search engine, and published cancer-related studies, using search keywords "psychosocial function and intervention for the cancer patients"; whole articles of selected references were reviewed and analyzed. Result: Most common psychosocial problems were depression, fatigue, nausea, pain, distress, resulting in a low quality of life. The seven scales found in the literature to assess the psychosocial functioning were Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Symptom Checklist 90-R, Profile of Mood States, Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale, Brief Symptom Inventory, and SF-36 HRQOL(Health Related Quality of Life). Social support interventions for cancer patients were effective in improving quality of life scores. Conclusion: It is necessary to apply support intervention strategies to help cancer patients in Korea. These strategies can help to reduce the effects of psychosocial symptoms, which in turn affect the development and control of cancer. Strategies developed in Western countries may need to be modified for use within Korea. Further studies are warranted to review the support intervention strategies that were being used to for cancer patients

Measurement of VOCs Concentrations at Jeonju Industrial Area and Emission Characteristics (전주공단지역의 주요VOCs 배출농도 측정 및 배출원별 특성 분석)

  • It will be necessary to make proper management plans to preserve the air quality in good level for the public. In order to make these plans, source information and detail emission inventories of the city and near industrial areas should be given. However, lack of the source measurements data makes us more difficult to complete the source inventory. VOC source Inventory could be utilized for the feasibility study to estimate the contribution of VOC sources presenting to the receptor such as residential area. It may give policy maker an idea how to control the air quality, and improve their social environment in the area. This study shows data that measured VOCs concentrations from the local industrial areas in Jeonju during from May 2005 to January 2006. The samples were collected from the near sources in 7 major factories in the industrial park as well as 5 general sources in near city Jeonju area to elucidate the abundances of speciated VOCs and their spacial and temporal distributions depending on source bases. Industrial sources are as follows; chemical, food, paper, wood, metal, non-metal (glass), and painting (coating) industries. The 5 general sources are sampled from tunnel, gasoline gas station, dry cleaning shop, printing (copy) shop, and road pavement working place in urban area. To understand the near source effect at receptor, samples from the 2 receptor sites (one is at center of the industrial complex and the other site is at distance residential area downwind from the center) were collected and analyzed for the comparison to source concentration. The mass contributions of the speciated VOC to total mass of VOCs measured from the different sources and ambient (2 receptors) were presented and discussed.

Measurement of the Gap and Grain Boundary Inventories of Cs, Sr in and I in Domestic Used PWR Fuels (국내 PWR 사용후핵연료에서 세슘, 스트론튬과 요오드의 갭 및 입계 재고량 측정)

  • Inventories of soluble elements in the gap and grain boundaries of domestic used PWR fuel pellets were measured to estimate the quantities of radionuclides that are liable to be rapidly released into the groundwater of a disposal site. The gap inventory of cesium for the pellets in the used fuel with a burn-up range of 45 to 66 GWD/MTU showed 0.85 to 1.7% of its total inventory, which was close to 1/6 to 1/3 of the fission gas release fraction (FGRF). However, the amounts of cesium released from the gaps of the pellets below 40 GWD/MTU of a burn-up and less than 1% FGRF were so erratic that the gap inventory could not be defined by ie FGRF. Strontium inventories in the gap and grain boundaries of the pellets in the same rod were not significantly varied, and the iodine inventory in the gap of the used PWR fuels was estimated to be less than or the same as the FGRF.

Estimation of Particulate Matter and Ammonia Emission Factors for Mechanically-Ventilated Pig Houses (강제환기식 양돈시설의 암모니아 및 미세먼지 배출계수 산정)

  • Emission factors for ammonia and particulate matters (PMs) from livestock buildings are of increasing importance in view of the environmental protection. While the existing emission factors were determined based on the emission inventory of other countries, in situ measurement of emission factors is required to construct an accurate emission inventory for Korea. This study is to report measurements of ammonia and PMs emissions from mechanically-ventilated pig houses, which are common types of pig barns in Korea. Ventilation rates and concentrations of ammonia and PMs were measured at the ventilation outlets of a weaner unit, a growing pig unit and a fattening pig unit to calculated the emission factors. The PMs emission was characterized with different aerodynamic diameters (PM2.5, PM10, and total suspended particulates (TSP)). The measured ammonia emission factors for weaners, growing pigs and fattening pigs were 0.225, 0.869 and 1.679 kg animal-1 yr-1, respectively, showing linear increase with pigs' age. The PMs emission factors for three growing stages were 0.023, 0.237 and 0.241 kg animal-1 yr-1, respectively for TSP, 0.017, 0.072 and 0.223 kg animal-1 yr-1, respectively for PM10, and 0.011, 0.016 and 0.151 kg animal-1 yr-1, respectively for PM2.5. PMs emissions were increased with pigs' age due to increasing feed supply and animal movement. The measured emission factors were smaller than those of the existing emission inventory indicating that the existing ones overestimate the emissions from pig buildings and also suggesting that long-term in situ monitoring at various livestock buildings is required to construct the accurate emission inventory.

Child-rearing Attitudes of Fathers of Preschool Children: Korean Parent As A Teacher Inventory (한국형 부모양육태도 검사를 이용한 학령전기 아동 아버지의 양육태도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitude of fathers of preschool children to child rearing and to provide basic data to develop parent education programs. Method: The participants were 84 fathers of preschool children and the measurement tool was the Korean Parent As A Teacher Inventory self-report questionnaire and data were collected from 1 kindergarten and 1 child care center located in Gyeonggi Province. Results: 1) Child-rearing attitudes of the fathers was above average at $2.80({\pm}0.19)$. 2) There were significant difference statistically according to father's occupation (F=3.14, p=0.03) and child characteristics (F=4.87, p=0.01). 3) There were significant correlation between child rearing attitudes of the fathers and their age (${\tau}=-0.16$, p=0.04), and child characteristics (${\tau}=0.21$, p=0.02). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that attitudes of fathers to child rearing are important and it is necessary to develop a systemic parenting education program.

  • Global companies are building global production network for the demand of the global market. However, the establishment and operation of overseas plants make the unexpected case like theft, low will to produce and salary issue of local workers. Thus in this paper, we propose the raw materials loss prevention model based on IP Camera and RFID Box for raw materials management of overseas plants. This model can prevent the theft or loss of raw materials write inventory up in real-time. This model can be allows us to realize the cost-effective production management because it enables remote inventory management. And this model can prevent brand image danage and profit loss due to reject product.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of automatic measuring systems for air pollution emissions in Seoul and to suggest an improvement method using GIS and GPS. In Korea, there have been very few critical researches and managements for mobile and area sources regarding moving subjects such as automobiles. In order to control or to make a plan for reducing air pollutions, air pollution emission data based on tim and location, emission inventory systems and emission models should be implemented. Using digital maps and MS Visual Basic, we developed a visualized interface for air pollution emission data from automatic emission measurement systems in Seoul.

A Case Report of a Patient with a Tension-Type Headache Treated by Korean Medical Treatment with ByeolGab Pharmacopuncture (긴장형 두통을 주소로 입원한 환자의 별갑약침을 포함한 한방치료에 대한 임상 보고 1례)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to report the effects of Korean medical treatment with ByeolGab pharmacopuncture on a patient with a tension-type headache. Methods: We treated a tension-type headache using Korean medical treatment including ByeolGab pharmacopuncture for 6 days a week for 2 weeks. As a measurement, the numerical rating scale (NRS), the Henry Ford Headache Disability Inventory (HDI), and a six point Likert scale were used to confirm pharmacopuncture therapy efficacy. Results: After treatment, symptoms related to tension-type headache and other complaints were decreased and evaluation using the NRS, HDI, and six-point scale showed improvement in the patient. Conclusions: This study shows that Korean medical treatment with ByeolGab pharmacopuncture has beneficial effects on control of tension-type headache and improvement in quality of life for patients.

Decision of Abnormal Quality Unit Lists from Claim Database

  • Most enterprises have controlled claim data related to marketing, production, trade and delivery. They can extract the engineering information needed to the reliability of unit from the claim data, and also detect critical and latent reliability problems. Existing method which could detect abnormal quality unit lists in early stage from claim database has three problems: the exclusion of fallacy probability in claim, the false occurrence of claim fallacy alarm caused by not reflecting inventory information and too many excessive considerations of claim change factors. In this paper, we propose a process and methods extracting abnormal quality unit lists to solve three problems of existing method. Proposed one includes data extraction process for reliability measurement, the calculation method of claim fallacy alarm probability, the method for reflecting inventory time in calculating claim reliability and the method for identification of abnormal quality unit lists. This paper also shows that proposed mechanism could be effectively used after analyzing improved effects taken from automotive company's claim data adaptation for two years.

Diameter Growth Analysis for Major Species using National Forest Resource Inventory - In the Gangwon-do Forests - (국가산림자원조사를 이용한 주요수종별 직경생장량 분석 - 강원도 산림을 대상으로 -)

  • This study was carried out to analyze annual diameter growth characteristics for major 11 tree species using the data for Gangwon province of the National Forest Resources Inventory in 2007. The annual diameter growth of coniferous species was 5.02 mm, 4.70 mm, and 3.90 mm in Korean white pine, Japanese larch, and Korean red pine, respectively. In growths of the deciduous trees, dogwood, basswood, and cork oak had 3.55 mm, 3.48 mm and 3.01 mm, respectively. Average of the annual diameter growths for all species was 3.38 mm. The relationship between diameter growth and age class showed that the growth rate decreased for all species as age increased. The age class II had the highest annual diameter rate. In relation of the stand density(trees per hectare) and diameter growth, the diameter growth tended to decrease as the stand density increased for most species, especially Korean white pine, cork oak, and basswood. Finally age had the highest value in the correlation coefficients between measurement factor and growth rate regardless of species.
